Amazon Prime Video has canceled “Paper Girls” after one season.
The series was produced by Amazon Studios and Legendary Television in association with Plan B. It is based on the graphic novel series of the same name written by Brian K. Vaughan, illustrated by Cliff Chiang and published by Image Comics.
“Paper Girls” begins in the early morning hours after Halloween 1988, when four newspaper delivery girls — Erin (Riley Lai Nelet), Mac (Sofia Rosinsky), Tiffany (Camryn Jones), and Kj (Fina Strazza) — are out on their route when they become caught in the crossfire between warring time-travelers, changing the course of their lives forever. Transported into the future, they must figure out a way to get back home to the past, a journey that will bring them face-to-face with the grown-up versions of themselves. While reconciling that their futures are far different than their 12-year-old selves imagined, they are being hunted by...

While Amazon will not move forward with the show, fellow producer Legendary Television will shop the series around in hopes of finding a new home.
“Paper Girls” is a high-stakes personal journey depicted through the eyes of four girls, played by leads Camryn Jones as Tiffany Quilkin, Riley Lai Nelet as Erin Tieng, Sofia Rosinsky as Mac Coyle and Fina Strazza as Kj Brandman. Ali Wong also stars as the grown-up version of Erin, with Nate Corddry as Larry and Adina Porter as Prioress.

Prime Video's adventure series "Paper Girls" has something for everyone: coming-of-age stories, complicated friendships between girls, sci-fi wars, time travel, and much more. The eight-episode first season has gotten plenty of buzz, but will that be enough to bring it back for season two?
Right now, it's still a little too early to tell. The first season only started streaming on July 29, so it'll probably be well into fall before Prime Video makes an announcement one way or another. "Paper Girls" is based on a 30-issue comic-book series, so there's definitely plenty more material to explore for future seasons of the TV adaptation if it gets the green light.
How Does "Paper Girls" Season 1 End?
"Paper Girls" season one ends on a cliffhanger that lends itself to the story continuing into a second season, even though it's not assured. After a season full of time travel, devastating secrets, and warring factions,...

For as many great character interactions as there are on “Paper Girls,” there is sadly no overlap between Ali Wong and Jason Matnzoukas. Which is odd because, as it turns out, their friendship is the reason both of them even starred in the show.
When the series, based on the comics of the same name by Brian K. Vaughn, was first announced by Prime Video, neither actor was immediately gunning for a role in it. They were both getting through the pandemic at home, when Mantzoukas sent the book to Wong just as a reading recommendation.
Wong was immediately drawn to the idea of playing adult Erin, and Mantzoukas encouraged her to audition. But it wasn’t until Wong suggested to Mantzoukas herself that he audition to be the Grandfather that he thought of it.
“I think he was almost offended, because he was like, ‘Grandfather is so old!'” Wong joked with TheWrap.

“Paper Girls” is a sci-fi adventure through and through, but, like any good adventure, it packs a few emotional punches. Among them is a conversation that Kj (played by Fina Strazza) gets to have in the future — but not with herself. It’s a moment with her future girlfriend, as she comes to terms with her sexuality.
In the series, which is now streaming in its entirety on Prime Video, Kj and her friends are transported from 1988 to 2019, then later backwards to 1999. In their travels, the girls have the opportunity to meet their older selves. But Kj opts out, and instead accidentally runs headfirst into her future self’s girlfriend.
It’s a jarring moment for Kj, realizing what her feelings mean and what kind of future they lead to. For the most part, it leads to absolute terror — until she encounters her future girlfriend once more. After observing her...

If the final moments of the “Paper Girls” finale left you scrambling, well, welcome to the club. But we are here to work through it with you — and we got the cast’s input on things as well.
Now, before we get into what comes next, let’s lay out what all went down. In the season finale, now streaming on Prime Video, we see Erin (Riley Lai Nelet), Mac (Sofia Rosinsky), Tiff (Camryn Jones) and Kj (Fina Strazza) set to be returned to their original timeline, with their memories erased. But, thanks to some help from Prioress (Adina Porter), they manage to flee from the Grandfather (Jason Mantzoukas) in escape pods.
Prioress — who sacrificed herself in the process — released them because as it turns out, Tiff is instrumental in the creation of time travel, and thus, the time war. Prioress was around the same age as the paper girls...

In “Paper Girls,” Amazon Prime’s new series based on the comics of the same name, four girls come face to face with their futures — but only three of them get to meet their future selves. In Prime Video's "Paper Girls," Sofia Rosinsky, Fina Strazza, Riley Lai Nelet, and Camryn Jones star as four very different 12-year-olds in 1988 who are thrown together thanks to the same job: delivering the newspaper on their bicycles in the wee hours of the morning. During one route the day after Halloween, a series of bizarre events send them forward in time to 2019 and into the middle of a time war. Eventually, the girls become very close, but it's a long journey to friendship that takes place over the course of season one.
Rosinsky tells Popsugar that the showrunners tried to mimic this dynamic with the actors, too. "We were asked not to speak to each other before actually getting into Chicago and meeting for the first time," she says. "When you see the Paper Girls at the beginning just getting to know each other, we were also just getting to know each other off-screen.

Amazon’s Paper Girls features time travel, a burgeoning interdimensional conflict and giant robots straight out of Pacific Rim. Let’s get this out of the way now: The comparisons “Paper Girls” will get to “Stranger Things” are inevitable, but not especially fair.
Yes, “Paper Girls” also opens in the 1980s with four 12-year-olds on bikes who end up tackling otherworldly forces way bigger than themselves. But by the middle of the first episode, “Paper Girls” — which was a comic book series before “Stranger Things” was a TV show, anyway — turns itself inside out to become something else entirely. Suddenly, what at first looked like yet another throwback Amblin-esque series reveals a more bittersweet lens, and harder science fiction heart.
As written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Cliff Chiang (both executive producers on this show), the original “Paper Girls” comics developed a devoted fanbase thanks to its sharp characterization, unsparing twists, and Chiang’s angular imagery rendered in fluorescent pinks and blues by colorist Matt Wilson. The Amazon adaptation,...

The first thing “Paper Girls” has to do is distinguish itself from “Stranger Things.” This task isn’t especially fair; this Amazon Prime Video series about a quartet of 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls in 1988 who accidentally travel through time is based on a comic book by Brian K. Vaughn and Cliff Chiang that was first published mere months after “Stranger Things” premiered. But it’s unavoidable all the same, especially in a summer when the newest “Stranger Things” season debuted to blockbuster-level attention on Netflix. Is Amazon’s “Paper Girls” perfect for fans of that show, or does it play (however inadvertently) as a cheap imitation?
The answer is a little of both: As a sci-fi adventure, “Paper Girls” is mostly lacking, hampered by chintzy-looking special effects and chaotic, unconvincing world-building. As an unusual coming-of-age drama, though, it has its moments—including some material that digs deeper than the big-budget ’80s karaoke of Stranger Things.

If adaptations of Brian K. Vaughan’s comic books didn’t have terrible luck with timing, they’d have no luck at all.
Vaughan has co-created some of the most acclaimed, beloved comics of this century, but they have tended to involve such elaborate concepts and dense storytelling that they’ve taken an incredibly long time to journey from page to screen. As a result, they’ve arrived in other media at the worst possible moments. Runaways, about the rebellious teenage children of a group of supervillains, debuted on Hulu...

It’s Stand by Me meets Stranger Things meets The Wizard of Oz meets Terminator. Reminiscent of several nostalgic ’80s sci-fi touchstones, Amazon’s Paper Girls brings a fresh element to the classic archetype: time travel. And as if time travel weren’t complicated enough, Paper Girls follows an all-out time war, with four girls at the center of it all.
Based on the comic series by Brian K. Vaughan (who also wrote the series Saga and Ex Machina), the Amazon show brings four newcomers into the spotlight, as they prepare to headline their own show on a major streaming platform. Sofia Rosinsky, Riley Lai Nelet, Camryn Jones and Fina Strazza hold it down as the titular paper girls — a group of 12-year-olds delivering early-morning newspapers in Stony Stream, Ohio, in 1988.

While it may not necessarily be a contender for “Best Horror Film of 2016”, The Other Side of the Door is still a solid supernatural thriller that showcases its Indian backdrop marvelously, features a strong performance from The Walking Dead alum Sarah Wayne Callies, and does an admirable job of trying to bring something new to a very familiar premise.
At the start of The Other Side of the Door, we meet Maria (Callies) and Michael (Jeremy Sisto), who have been transplanted from the States to India as part of Michael’s job as an antiques dealer. Once Maria reveals she’s expecting their first child, the couple decides to officially make Mumbai their home and raise their family abroad. Flash forward several years and we meet the now established husband and wife, who are only but a shell of their former selves. The reason? Some months earlier, a tragic car...

There have been many movies which deal with bringing the dead back to life, but The Other Side Of The Door manages to add a mystical element to the subject.
The film follows an American family who live a wonderful life in Mumbai, India until their youngest son is killed in a tragic accident. While Michael (Jeremy Sisto) and their daughter Lucy (Sofia Rosinsky) have moved on, Maria (Sarah Wayne Callies) is still in a deep state of grief she cannot hide from anyone.
This leads her housekeeper, Piki (Suchitra Pillai-Malik), to inform Maria of an ancient ritual that will allow her to say one last goodbye to her son, and it involves going to an ancient temple where a door serves as a portal between the living and the dead. When Maria disobeys Piki’s warning about never ever opening the door, however, the balance between life and death...
