Labor Day weekend this year won’t be sleepy. After a couple of years of uncertainty, Macon Blair’s adaptation of The Toxic Avenger is finally headed towards general release. Whilst the film did make a brief appearance back in 2023 with a teaser trailer, but the film is reportedly very violent – so violent in fact that it struggled to find a US distributor in 2023. We got a brief teaser for the film, and since then, nothing.

However, Blair is a talented director having helmed the Netflix thriller I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore to very positive notices. Likewise, the film’s star Peter Dinklage has raised the quality bar on many a project too, so hopes were always high that eventually somebody would swoop in to pick up the film for distribution...

The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger has arrived and it's violent, weird, and unhinged...which we're guessing is pretty much everything you'd want from a movie featuring the beloved Troma Entertainment cult hero.

As seen in a video posted to X by industry fan page DiscussingFilm, a boat bearing promo materials for The Toxic Avenger was spotted floating down the Chicago River, which was dyed green for St. Patrick's Day. Apart from banners, the boat also featured two performers, one dressed loosely as the Toxic Avenger himself, much to the delight of onlookers.

The 2025 Children’s & Family Emmy Awards honored standout productions, with Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Orion and the Dark, and Sesame Street projects among the biggest winners. Hosted by voice actor Eric Bauza, the main ceremony and the creative arts ceremony celebrated achievements in children’s television, animation, and family programming.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians led with eight wins out of its 16 nominations, securing best young teen series and directing for a single-camera live-action series for the episode I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher, which tied with A Real Bug’s Life episode The Big City. The series, recently renewed for a third season ahead of its second-season debut, has drawn substantial viewership on Disney+.

The Sesame Street universe also saw success. Elmo and Jesse Remember Uncle Jack won best short form live-action program, and Leslie Carrara-Rudolph earned an award for outstanding puppetry performer. Sesame Street picked up three more...

Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Orion and the Dark and projects from the Sesame Street universe were among the big winners at the 2025 Children’s and Family Emmy Awards main and creative arts ceremonies on Saturday.

Percy Jackson, which scored an early season three renewal on Friday, months before season two premieres on Disney+, won eight of the 16 awards for which it was nominated. The series has recorded more viewing time than any original show on Disney+ outside of the Marvel and Star Wars franchises, as measured by Nielsen.

In the main ceremony, Percy Jackson won best young teen series and directing for a single-camera live-action series “I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher” in a tie with “The Big City” episode of A Real Bug’s Life. It won six more awards in the creative arts ceremony.

We recently got word that Macon Blair's remake of low-budget Troma classic, The Toxic Avenger, is finally going to hit theaters later this year, and we now have a first official poster for the movie (via AVClub.com).

The Toxic Avenger actually debuted its first trailer back in October of 2023 before completely dropping off the radar. Fans have been wondering about the status of the movie ever since, and earlier this year, a report claimed that the gory splatter-fest - which has a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes - had been deemed "unreleasable" and "not safe enough to market."

Well, one distributor was willing to take a chance on Toxie, as Cinerverse and Bloody Disgusting recently announced that the movie will get a theatrical release at some point in 2025 (an exact date has not been disclosed).

Rahul Kohli shares his heartfelt reaction to being a part of The Life of Chuck. Directed by Mike Flanagan, the Stephen King adaptation premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September. Told in reverse, the film tells the story of the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz. The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger remake was dropped way back in October 2023. Few updates followed that sneak peek, though reviews from various film festivals were largely positive.

Last year, we heard that director Macon Blair's movie - starring Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) as the character - had been deemed "unreleasable." Things looked bleak, only for it to have since been revealed that an unrated cut will hit theaters later this year.

Entertainment Weekly (via FearHQ.com) has confirmed it's coming on August 29 and we also have a first look at the movie's titular Toxic Avenger. That's not Dinklage, though, as Luisa Guerreiro - an actor and movement artist - donned the extensive makeup and prosthetics for Toxie's physical performance.

While Stephen King is rightfully known as the Master of Horror, the prolific novelist could just as easily be called the Master of Feels. After all, without King, there is no Stand By Me, no The Shawshank Redemption, no The Green Mile. Macon Blair tells EW of the new design, “The goal was to try to stay true to the vibe of Lloyd [Kaufman’s] original Jennifer Aspinall/Mitch Cohen creature, with some influence from the Toxic Crusaders cartoon’s look, while also trying to do something new and weird and lovable with Toxie’s design. I love what Millennium FX did with it — part human, part mutant, all heart.”

Flanagan’s first two collaborations with King — Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep — were both horror stories. But The Life of Chuck is something else altogether. Following the film winning the TIFF People’s Choice Award last fall, audiences are getting their first official look at Mike Flanagan’s life-affirming flick “The Life of Chuck.”

Flanagan trades the usual scares of “Doctor Sleep” and “The Haunting of Hill House” for a story about life and what it means to move forward when all hope is lost. Adapted from Stephen King’s novella, “The Life of Chuck” is split into three distinct parts and told in reverse order, following the mysterious life of seemingly ordinary accountant Chuck Krantz (Tom Hiddleston). The cast also includes Jacob Tremblay, Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Matthew Lillard, Karen Gillan and Mia Sara, with Nick Offerman narrating.

The teaser early on shows the back of Hiddleston’s head as he plays the titular character of Chuck and walks down a suburban mall promenade. Then, now in a suit and spectacles, we finally see Hiddleston’s face as he nervously stares into the far distance.

“The universe is large, and it contains multitudes, but… it also contains me,” Chuck says in a voice-over to underline the movie’s message about embracing joy in the face of tragedy. The genre-tripping trailer for horror hitmaker Flanagan’s doomsday drama only hints at the end of Chuck’s life with early snippets of an Ecg heart line and a ticking clock.

New images have revealed the best look yet at the new Toxie. Starring Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, the reboot of The Toxic Avenger is coming to theaters on Aug. 29, 2025.
