Robert Englund terrorizing people throughout the night isn’t a rare sight to see. As the star of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, he has been in some of the most popular horror movies ever made. His performance made the dream-stalking Freddy Krueger a genre icon. But he has around one hundred and fifty screen credits where he didn’t play Freddy. With that much output, it’s not surprising that the occasional project slips completely under the radar. Today, we’re going to shine the spotlight on one of those projects. A film where Englund plays a weaselly projectionist who traps Finn Jones in a movie theatre overnight. It...

"You've been manipulated, Charlotte." TriCoast has revealed another new official US trailer for the indie mystery thriller film called The Stranger in Our Bed, opening in the US later this month. We posted the UK trailer a few weeks ago which describes this as similar to Gone Girl. Feeling trapped in her controlling marriage to wealthy husband Tom, Charlotte Carlisle begins an affair with another man, but then he one day mysteriously disappears without a trace. Behind her husband's back, she secretly begins an investigation, teaming up with her lover's sister Becki to uncover the truth behind what happened to him. It becomes clear that nothing is as it seems, and after becoming witnesses to a murder, the two become entangled in a dark, twisted game of cat-and-mouse. Starring Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Emily Berrington, Terri Dwyer, Andi Osho, Bart Edwards, & Nina Wadia. This looks like it gets very dark and crazy at the end,...

It looks like Humans is going extinct. Deadline reports the AMC/Channel 4 TV show has been cancelled after three seasons.

AMC and Channel 4’s sci-fi series “Humans” has been canceled after three seasons, an AMC spokesperson has confirmed to TheWrap.
Executive producers and writers Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent shared the news via Twitter on Monday.
“Sadly there won’t be a 4th season of ‘Humans.’ In this age of unprecedented choice and competition, we can have no complaints. Channel 4 & AMC were the perfect partners. They supported the show brilliantly and above all — let us make three seasons!” the pair wrote in a joint statement tweeted from Vincent’s account. “We know we left some threads hanging. That was the way we always wrote the show. Maybe one day we’ll get a chance to pick them back up. If there’s anyone out there with a few million quid and an interest in AI stories, we’re all ears.”

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from the finale of “The Miniaturist.”]
In “The Miniaturist” finale, the promising life Nella (Anya Taylor-Joy) thought she would have when she married and moved to Amsterdam resulted in horror and heartbreak. The city may have been enjoying a Dutch Golden Age of art, innovation, and trade, but that also led to a blinkered commerce-driven ambition that had no tolerance for those that didn’t seem to conform or contribute. On Sunday’s episode, that took its toll on the Brandt family twice over.
Nella’s husband Johannes Brandt (Alex Hassell) went on trial for supposedly forcing himself on another man, reneging on a business deal, and being homosexual — a crime in 17th century Amsterdam. Eventually, the verdict came in clearing him on all counts except for the last one, which unfortunately carried a death sentence. After spending an evening in jail comforting her husband, the next day she watched as he was publicly executed by drowning.

A solid edition of the PBS “Masterpiece” lineup tends to indulge some combination of the following: a plucky heroine, a secretly soft hero, a compelling romance and/or mystery, and a lush period backdrop to set it all off. “The Miniaturist” — based on Jessie Burton’s 2014 novel — technically works well as the latest entry, traveling back to 1686 Amsterdam for a tale laced with secrecy, intrigue, and even a hint of supernatural subterfuge. It features a determined heroine in teen bride Nella, sent to live in a new home with a rich and broody new husband Johannes Brandt (Alex Hassell), his wary sister Marin (Romola Garai), and a pair of servants — surly Cornelia (Hayley Squires) and loyal Otto (Paapa Essiedu) — who know much more about all of the above than they initially let on.
But things only start to take off once Johannes gifts Nella with a dollhouse modeled after her new home,...

Based on Stephen Fry’s novel The Hippopotamus, and brought to the silver screen by director John Jencks, the flavour and indelible, idiosyncratic tone of the author is imbued in this faithful adaptation – except in some regards, perhaps too much so. The narration within this endeavour is so prominent, it feels like reading a book, as though we’ve accidentally turned the audio description on. Plus, and much like reading a book, you feel the need to pause for the night and continue on the following day, for there’s plenty here to digest.
Roger Allam plays Ted Wallace, a formerly respected poet, who now masquerades as a journalist, really only in it for the free drinks at events he’s hired to cover. Often seen stumbling around, glass of whisky in hand, offering his opinions for free to anyone who dares listen, he is sacked from...

Airing on AMC, the Humans TV show is a co-production with Channel 4 and Kudos in Britain. Season two aired in the UK months ago so, could that hurt the ratings for AMC? Because Humans is a co-production, does it need strong ratings? Will it be renewed for a third season or, will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned. The Humans TV show takes place in a parallel present, where the latest must-have gadget for any home is a Synthetic. But what happens when these Synths are given the right to consciousness and their own free will? The cast includes Gemma Chan, Emily Berrington, Colin Morgan, Ivanno Jeremiah, Katherine Parkinson, Tom Goodman-Hill, Lucy Carless, Theo Stevenson, Pixie Davies, Carrie-Anne Moss, Marshall Allman, Neil Maskell, Ruth Bradley, Will Tudor, Sonya Cassidy, Sam Palladio, Bella Dayne, and Letitia Wright. Can a human and a machine love one another? This is the question Humans dedicates itself to not only asking, but to asking in as many ways possible.
The show exists in a setting familiar to most science-fiction fans: a world in which lifelike humanoid machines populate society’s homes and businesses. Like the hosts of Westworld or the replicants of Blade Runner, they’re anatomically identical to humans and nearly blend in with humans. However, unlike hosts and replicants, the “Synths” of Humans do not think, trick, manipulate, feel or lie. That is, except for a select few – Niska, Mia, and a handful of others – who are disrupting expectations due to their “consciousness code.”
The second season of Humans picks up a few months after its first season and opens with Niska (Emily Berrington), perhaps the most intriguing of the conscious Snyths,...

While I’ve known of Humans and how well the show was received, to my shame I never really watched it. When I got the chance to watch Humans 2.0 though, I decided to dive in and take it from the starting point of the second series. Through the catch-up I was able to pick-up on the importance of characters like Mia (Gemma Chan) and Leo (Colin Morgan) and the situation they were in now. With the initial focus on Niska (Emily Berrington) though at the start of the season, she soon became my favourite Synth.
If you’ve seen any British television or movies in the past few years, you’ll know why Humans 2.0 stands out. With the likes of Ruth Bardley, Neil Maskell, and Katherine Parkinson in the cast this is impressive, then add Carrie-Anne Moss and this takes the cast to an even higher level.

We first reported on the production of John Jencks’ big screen adaptation of Stephen Fry’s The Hippopotamus back in 2015, when a single image was released. Since then we’ve heard almost nothing to sate our desire for big screen Fry. Until today that is, as we have finally got a first look at film’s trailer.
Blanche McIntyre and Tom Hodgson adapted Fry’s 1994 novel for Jencks to make his second feature film. A suitably sozzled-looking Roger Allam leads the the cast which include Matthew Modine, Tim McInnerny, Tommy Knight, Geraldine Somerville, Fiona Shaw and Emily Berrington.
We’ve got our look at the first trailer for The Hippopotamus from the Palm Springs Film Festival where the film has its North American premiere on the 14th of January, with another screening on the 15th. There are no details about a festival debut on this side of the pond,...

Forget that it's an adaptation and this new, overstuffed Dirk Gently series is actually an agreeably daft watch...
Despite the perpetually stuck sofas and the alien ghosts and time travelling, Douglas Adams’ delightfully nutty book Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency somehow completely hangs together. For all its weird digressions and laundry list of characters it was clear there was a method to the madness, and with Adams we were always in safe hands. There was never the sense that either Dirk Gently or the follow-up, The Long Dark Tea-Time Of The Soul was too scattershot and ultimately, Adams more or less pulled his various narrative strands together. Could the latest attempt to adapt the story for TV pull off the same thing?

Our salute to Steven Spielberg at 70 moves to the 2000s: A.I, Munich, Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can & Crystal Skull.
By the end of the 1990s, Spielberg found himself in a position of unparalleled luxury. As an executive, he’d set up Amblin and DreamWorks and was enjoying success with both, while as a director he’d ridden through an uneven decade to achieve the critical success he’d longed for. Where do you go from there? What do you do when you’re the film-maker who’s done everything? Well, Spielberg himself never seemed sure of how to answer that question because during the first ten years of the new millennium he hopped from genre to genre, covering sci-fi and historical thriller, retro caper and fish-out-of-water comedy. It's one of the most eclectic decades of his career and, in my opinion at least, the...

The rumours have been rife, but now we have it 100% confirmed - Jenna Coleman is leaving Doctor Who, which means the hunt is on for her replacement.
Who's fit to follow in Clara's footsteps? 12 suggestions follow - from the silly to the serious.
Jenna Coleman will star as Queen Victoria in a major new ITV drama
1. Ingrid Oliver
Unit scientist Osgood - first name as yet undisclosed - is perhaps the natural choice to replace Clara.
Smart, plucky and with a taste for adventure, she's got all the qualities one looks for in a companion - and was already eyed as a potential by the Doctor before her untimely demise ("All of time and space - something for your bucket list.").
Now that she's apparently returned from the dead, perhaps Osgood could step aboard the Tardis in series nine - providing she's not a Zygon duplicate.

Here it is - our first cast iron intel on Humans series two.
The writers behind Channel 4's hit sci-fi drama told TVLine that a second series will pick up "a few months" after the first.
"[The Synths have] gone a bit deeper," said Sam Vincent. "They've moved into new areas of employment. They've moved into new areas of our personal lives.
"Things are developing fast, as technology does in all areas. There's lots of new, society-wide effects which we're going to tell stories in."
Vincent and co-creator Jonathan Brackley confirmed that all of the major characters from the first series will return, including the Hawkins family.
"The big challenge for us is to create stories... that bring the Hawkins family back into it," Vincent explained. "We think we've cracked a couple of good ways to really tie them back into the big story."
But what of William Hurt's George Millican?...

We love RoboCop and Terminator 2 for their action and characters. But there’s also tragic element that makes their stories soar...
Nb: The following contains spoilers for Terminator 2, Terminator Genisys, Blade Runner and RoboCop.
Imagine you’re Detroit cop Alex Murphy. You’re an ordinary man in every respect: a loving husband and father with a home and a mortgage. But then you wake up one day and you aren’t Alex Murphy anymore. The hands you look down on are no longer your hands. Your memories have been replaced by directives.
The cinemagoers who made Paul Verhoeven’s RoboCop a hit in 1987 probably weren’t expecting a film about the nature of human existence, and some may not have consciously noted its philosophical undercurrent at all. But it’s this existentialist edge that, when coupled with its searing violence and black humour, makes for such an irresistible sci-fi movie.

Bringing to a close eight weeks of scintillating sci-fi goodness, Humans wrapped up a stellar first series on Channel 4 last night - but that finale left us with as many questions as answers.
If you're anything like us, here are a few questions you might still have - about the fictional world of Humans, and the show's origins and inspirations.
1. So wait... what happened at the end?
Confused by those final scenes? Here's a brief rundown of what went down in the Humans finale...
Elster's children - with the help of Karen (Ruth Bradley) - succeeded in unlocking the secret to Synth consciousness, but before they could decide what to do with it, Niska (Emily Berrington) deleted the code from Mattie's laptop - storing what appeared to be the only copy on a flash drive.
In what appeared to be a big move towards establishing peaceful human/Synth relations,...

Emily Berrington is ''slightly robotic''. The 29-year-old actress was unsure where to take it as a compliment when her friends told her she would be ''perfect'' for her 'Humans' role of Niska - a 'synth', or robot, who looks just like a real person and has human characteristics - but has now ''accepted'' the likeness between herself and her character. She said: ''When I got the part, a few of my friends said, 'Oh my God, you are perfect for this.' I was like, 'Is that a compliment?' ''I once said the same to Gemma Chan, who plays Anita. We've both accepted we've...
