Despite having the star power of Will Smith, Netflix's Bright was heavily panned upon its release in 2017. The film holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of 26%, though director David Ayer appreciates how it still works for some audiences, even if it's not for everyone.
On the social media platform X, Ayer interacted with a fan who told the Suicide Squad and The Beekeeper director that he loves all of his movies — except for Bright and The Tax Collector. Ayer admitted that Bright was a big swing, but he was quick to point out that it did find its fan base. Considering that the movie has an audience score of 83%, it would appear that he's not wrong.
Bright was a big swing. It did work for a lot of people. Not for others. I really like the performances. Nothing harder than world creation. Honestly I like more grounded worlds.Tax Collector was a 7 million dollar indie.

2014's Vampire Academy was based on a bestselling young adult novel series, and poised to kick off the next hit YA movie franchise, but Vampire Academy 2 never happened. Directed by Mean Girls' Mark Waters, the Vampire Academy movie adapts the first book in the series by Richelle Mead. It follows best friends Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch), a Dhampir (human-vampire hybrid), and Lissa Dragomir (Lucy Fry), a Moroi (a breed of peaceful vampires), who run away from their boarding school, St. Vladimir's Academy, only to be caught and forced to return.
The first Vampire Academy novel was published in 2007, a time when young adult book series, particularly those centered around the supernatural, were booming in popularity. This was the same year that both Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Eclipse, the third book in the Twilight Saga, were published. Both of those series went on to become such huge movie...

In the TV series, the character’s story will begin ten years earlier than in the film.

The hook of IFC’s “Paint” seems to be “What if Bob Ross was challenged for public broadcasting painting supremacy by a younger and, yes, more inclusive artist?” Think “All About Eve” or “Showgirls,” in this case offering a set-in-their-ways veteran on-television painter and art instructor being usurped by a younger, more exciting upstart.
Owen Wilson isn’t literally playing late painter Bob Ross, who died at the age of 52 in 1995. However, at least some of the comedy offered up in the latest trailer for “Paint” is contingent upon audiences being somewhat aware of the beloved, soft-spoken artist. The hair, the gee-whiz sentiment and the soft color palette are all clear as crystal.
The only thing anointing this film as set in the present day, as opposed to the 1980s or 1990s, is a brief reference to an Uber. Well, that and an apparently intimate moment between Renée and Michaela Watkins.

Though over five years have come and gone since its premiere, stunt performer Kimberly Shannon Murphy is getting candid about Bright's choppy editing. The Netflix film starred Will Smith as a human LAPD officer in a world in which humanity and mythical creatures exist and he's forced to partner with an orc and protect an elf girl with a dangerous magic wand. Helmed by Suicide Squad's David Ayer, Bright scored largely negative reviews from critics upon its 2017 debut, though proved to be a ratings success for Netflix.

While the movie didn’t land particularly well with audiences, fans of vampires get another shot at the series adaptation thanks to streaming service Peacock. Peacock’s new Vampire Academy series is able to go into more detail than the movie ever could, introducing fans to a larger cast of characters with more depth, giving the audience a real chance to get to know them.
Although it's been on for one season, fans already have their favorites. Each of the characters introduced is fully fleshed out with layered personalities. Those personalities can be even further explored when fans think of them in terms of the western zodiac signs.

Vampires are a perpetually popular source of entertainment. There’s a sexiness and a sense of history to them that can make for in-depth storytelling. They’re also perfect for the teen market, probably because the vampire hierarchy, archaic rules, and raging emotions feel perfectly suited to young adults growing up. So it’s no surprise that, in the wake of The CW’s long-running vampire series “The Vampire Diaries,” “The Originals,” and “Legacies,” that creator Julie Plec would want to turn to another YA version of vampire novels: Richelle Mead’s “Vampire Academy.”
“Vampire Academy” is a series so rich with history that a big reason the new Peacock show struggles to gain footing is trying to fit it all in. It exists in a world of vampire royalty known as Moroi and human/vampire guardians called Dhampirs. The novels, and show, follow Rose Hathaway (Sisi Stringer), a Dhampir attending the prestigious St.

Peacock has released a trailer for the new series "Vampire Academy," based on the bestselling young adult novel series of the same name by Richelle Mead. If this sounds familiar to you, it may be because the books were adapted into a 2014 film starring Zoey Deutch and Lucy Fry. The new series about St. Vladimir's Academy for vampires -- which will serve as a reboot -- comes to us from some people very familiar with the genre; Julie Plec ("The Vampire Diaries") and Marguerite Macintyre ("The Originals") will serve as showrunners and executive producers, with Plec also directing.
The lore of these novels is complex, with a rigid class structure and several types of vampires. It's the story of a powerful friendship that inspires two young women to defy the training they've received about where they belong in the world, and fight the growing threat of the Strigoi, a group...

Exclusive: Michael Raymond-Jamesn (Sweet Girl) has been tapped for the key role of mob boss Joe Colombo opposite Forrest Whitaker in the upcoming third season of Epix drama series Godfather of Harlem.
Created by Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, Godfather of Harlem tells a story inspired by infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker), who in the early 1960s returned from eleven years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles. Season 3 will find Bumpy Johnson continuing to battle for control of Harlem, with other aspirants to the throne, namely the Cuban Mafia from neighboring Spanish Harlem. Taking on the Cuban mob will put Bumpy, his loved ones, and his community in the crosshairs of not only the rival Italians, but ruthless Latin assassins and, ultimately, the CIA. Godfather of Harlem is a collision of the criminal underworld and the civil rights movement during one of the most tumultuous times in American history.
