Mary J. Blige has signed a new multi-picture deal with Lifetime, which comes after the release of her 2023 films “Real Love” and “Strength of a Woman.” The first project the Emmy and nine-time Grammy award-winning actress and singer has queued up is a TV film tentatively titled “Family Affair,” which is inspired by her 2001 hit that shares the same.
“Real Love” and “Strength of a Woman” stars Ajiona Alexus and Da’Vinchi are set to reprise their roles from previous Blige-inspired films.
Here’s the official description of the flick. Production for the film starts this month.
“Kendra and Ben move out of the city in hopes of finally building a life together. With all their family around and inserted in their lives, tensions rise as they struggle with fertility issues and Kendra tries to find her footing with Ben’s son Miles. Their relationship reaches a boiling point when Ben secretly helps his brother,...

Movie mogul Tyler Perry and Empire star Taraji P. Henson first collaborated for the feature I Can Do Bad All by Myself. In the midst of shooting, Henson took certain liberties with her co-star that did more than shock the producer.

Henson was excited to star in Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself. It was yet another project that took place in Perry’s Madea universe, starring Henson as the aunt of three troubled siblings. Henson also considered the film her first starring role, which she appreciated since she wasn’t really given the opportunity to carry a film.

And much to our delight, Kendra and Ben found their way back to one another.
Mary J. Blige's Strength of A Woman was a worthwhile companion piece to Mary J. Blige's Real Love, even if it veered closer to Lifetime's usual fare with some of its plots.
Despite roughly 15 years apart, the true, honest, first, and real love between Kendra and Ben finally prevailed, and they're all the better for it.
It was great that we got to catch up with an adult Kendra and Ben, not only following them after they've endured many things in their life and were far more seasoned, but dropping in during a time when we got to see the two battling those real-life problems that come with adulthood, relationships, and experience.
Again, Ajiona Alexus has truly shined in this double feature, enough so that I genuinely look forward to her future projects...

Love is messy, complicated, and a complete loss of control.
One of the most shining aspects of Mary J. Blige's Real Love is how the iconic Renaissance woman's music inspired the film, and it was done incredibly well.
Mary J. Blige and Lifetime are a collaboration made in heaven, with this genuine, sweet, and real love story that puts not just her music, but music in general, very much at the forefront as it was expertly used as a tool for great storytelling.
At the heart of this film is Kendra, not the love story and chemistry between the leads, which was fantastic, but Kendra herself, as a character and young woman driving this story.
Ajiona Alexus, of 13 Reasons Why acclaim, absolutely shines in this role, deftly carrying the film as lead and capturing all the complexities of Kendra.

Starz’s drama series, Bmf follows the real-life story of the Flenory brothers. Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory (Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr.) and Terry “Southwest Tee” Flenory (Da’Vinchi) began selling drugs as teens on the streets of Detroit before forming their own national drug enterprise. B-Mickie (Myles Truitt) is the brothers’ right-hand man. However, B-Mickie has been turned into an informant.
This season fans think Meech will likely kill B-Mickie.

Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson took to social media over the weekend to criticize Starz because an episode of freshman drama Bmf aired one week early.
The series was scheduled to be off the air this weekend, but the seventh episode of the first season was made available to stream to Starz subscribers who signed into the app at midnight.
“Starz is a s–t show, they better sell it fast,” Jackson tweeted after the episode went up early.
“They put the f–king Bmf show on, then took it down. What network does s–t like that?"
"They just ruined the anticipation of the episode I directed, I Worked Hard On This. I can’t work with these people anymore.”
Jackson said that the network had asked for the mini hiatus to run the seventh episode of Bmf with the Power Book II: Ghost debut.

“Bmf” has been renewed for Season 2 at Starz.
The series debuted just four days ago on Sept. 26. Per Starz, it was the number one premiere of the year on the Starz app and also did well on Ott platforms in the early numbers.
“Bmf” is inspired by the true story of two brothers who rose from the decaying streets of southwest Detroit in the late 1980s and gave birth to one of the most influential crime families in this country. Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory’s charismatic leadership, Terry “Southwest T” Flenory’s business acumen and the fraternal partnership’s vision beyond the drug trade and into the world of hip-hop would render the brothers iconic on a global level.

The first episode of “Bmf,” Randy Huggins’ new Starz drama, sets the stage to tell the larger-than-life story of the Flenory brothers, who emerged as major players in the Detroit drug underground throughout the 1990s. Within just a few introductory scenes, “Bmf” shows us Terry and Demetrius (aka “Meech”) in three different time periods as children, young adults and seasoned veterans. With a heavy dose of self-serious voiceover from adult Meech, the script lays bare the brothers’ hopes, dreams, inner conflicts and stubborn refusal to compromise. As with anything remotely biographical, it does its best to introduce its subjects in a way that makes them relatable, compelling and epic all at once. Every time the pilot comes close to achieving that balance, though, it quickly loses focus and gives in to enough clichés that it’s easy to forget that the show is, in the words of the opening title card,...

British broadcaster Channel 4 is to launch AwesomenessTV’s supernatural thriller Light As a Feather on its digital service.
The network will launch the ten-part series, which was originally available via Hulu, on All4 on April 1. This comes days after Viacom closed a deal to sell a raft of Awesomeness content globally after the U.S. media giant acquired the youth-skewing brand last year.
Light as a Feather centers on four best friends who invite the shy new girl out on Halloween, but they soon regret their decision when she suggests they play a seemingly innocent game of ‘Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board’. The game goes awry when the five girls start dying off in the exact way that was predicted, forcing the survivors to figure out why they’ve been targeted – and whether the evil force hunting them down is one of their own.

In Hulu’s new thriller “Light as a Feather,” a simple slumber party game becomes a matter of life and death. But in typical teen drama fashion, just about everything else feels the same way.
An adaptation of Zoe Aarsen’s hugely popular Wattpad story-turned-novel, the 10-episode drama follows five girls who play an ill-advised game of “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board” in a graveyard and then have to contend with a potentially deadly curse.
Taking a page from other genre-inflected dramas like Freeform’s “Pretty Little Liars” and The CW’s moody Archie comics adaptation “Riverdale,” “Light as a Feather” carefully intertwines real mortal peril with typical high school anxieties — splintering friendships, burgeoning romances, overbearing parents — to create a best emotional approximation of life as a teenager. Which is to say, sometimes joyful, often sweet, but mostly just terrifying and miserable.
