Ashlee Jensen is a proud neurodivergent filmmaker and creative director with over a decade of experience bringing compelling stories to life across film, television, and digital platforms. Known for her ability to capture the nuances and messiness of the human condition, Ashlee's work spans an impressive range of genres and styles, from short films and feature-length dramas to episodic content for TV and YouTube.
In 2014, Ashlee made her feature directorial debut with 500 Miles, a romantic drama that premiered at the Palm Beach International Film Festival, where she won the titles of 'Best Emerging Filmmaker' and 'Audience Choice.' The film went on to earn 'Best Narrative Feature' at the Cincinnati International Film Festival before its international release through Devolver and Eagle Entertainment.
Her follow-up projects have continued to garner attention and acclaim. In 2015, Ashlee directed the award-winning short film You Never Know, featuring Home and Away's Paul O'Brien, which was celebrated at the Cockatoo Island Film Festival and Simply Shorts: Women in Film. Ashlee's second feature, Project Eden, of which she was a co-Director, premiered at the Boston International Film Festival in 2017, where it won both 'Best Vision' and 'Best Sci-Fi Vision.' The film had a cinema run in the USA, and was released internationally through Umbrella Entertainment. The film featured a talented ensemble cast including Mike Dopud, Erik Avari, and the late Cliff Simon.
Holding an Advanced Diplomas in Screen and Stage Acting and also Film and Television, Ashlee has deepened her expertise through a Directors Intensive with Cate Shortland and Tony Krawitz and ongoing courses in writing and directing via AFTRS. She is also a current participant in Screen Queensland's Writers Write 24 program, where she is developing her latest projects.
Most recently, Ashlee's dramatic short film The Finish Line is set to premiere at the Toronto International Women's Film Festival. Her previous short film, 7 Times, which tells the powerful true story of a woman leaving an abusive relationship, has won 11 awards and is being adapted into a television series.
In 2024, Ashlee expanded her role in the industry, collaborating with Wirrim Media and Wildbear on Dreaming Big, an upcoming TV show set to premiere in 2025. Her experience spans from the camera department to serving as a Director's Attachment, further enriching her storytelling perspective.
As a director, Ashlee is celebrated for her actor-focused approach and ability to craft stories that resonate deeply, exploring human experiences through rich cinematic frameworks.
