The best rom-coms on Netflix showcase classics and provide new, originally produced content. The streaming service proves its love of the genre with a healthy dose of first-rate romantic comedies in its massive digital library. Netflix doesn't just bring in the best rom-coms from theatrical releases, but it also loves to dip its toes into the genre with its original movies, and the results have been successful. In the same way the horror genre was on its last legs in the early '90s, romantic comedies have been a mostly untapped resource over the past few years.
With Netflix stepping up to the plate with original content like the adaptation of Jenny Han's To All the Boys I've Loved Before and the workplace rom-com Set It Up, romantic comedies are edging their way back into the spotlight. However, there are a lot of movies and TV shows on Netflix,...

You have to suspend a hefty amount of disbelief in order to enjoy the kiddy horror pic “Spirit Halloween: The Movie” since, yes, it is a feature-length commercial for the Spirit Halloween chainstore. This lightly likable action-adventure advert rehashes the formulaic story beats that its filmmakers cribbed from a variety of acknowledged influences, including Amblin productions like “Gremlins” and “The Goonies.”
You might also think of Robert Zemeckis’s two Amblin movies, “Back to the Future” and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” given the presence of Christopher Lloyd, who makes a brief appearance as a vengeful ghost who hopes to possess a new human body. (Lloyd otherwise delivers his lines off-camera as a voice actor.)
Unfortunately, screenwriter Billie Bates and first-time director David Poag don’t have a knack for snappy dialogue or a general sensitivity for child and/or amateurish acting, which inadvertently puts way too much strain on the movie’s younger performers.

The charming if cheesy 1999 rom-com “She’s All That,” starring Freddie Prinze Jr. as a hot jock and Rachael Leigh Cook as the introverted art nerd he tries to transform into a glittering prom queen, turns 23 next year. Feel old yet? If you’re old enough for that Miramax production directed by Robert Iscove to mean anything, you’re probably too old for Netflix’s gender-flipped new sequel, “He’s All That,” to mean anything at all. Unless you enjoy the feeling of your soul being destroyed by another piece of Netflix clickbait, this is one to skip.

Netflix released the first trailer for “He’s All That” on Wednesday, which stars TikTok star Addison Rae as a popular beauty influencer determined to turn her scruffy classmate into prom king. So yes, it’s a pretty identical plot to the 1999 teen rom-com “She’s All That” — but with a gender flip thrown in.
“He’s All That” follows teen social media influencer Padgett (Rae) as she endures a humiliating breakup that goes viral after she catches her pop star boyfriend cheating on her while she’s live-streaming him.
To fix her reputation, Padgett makes a bet that she can turn the school’s least popular student, Cameron Kweller (“Cobra Kai’s” Tanner Buchanan), into prom king material. But when she finds herself actually falling for him — amid horseback riding dates and, of course, an elaborate makeover — things get a bit messy.

It seems that we are never more than a few months away from a reboot, reimagining or remake of a previous hit movie, and back in 2020 it was '90s teen movie She's All That receiving the green light by Miramax for its latest nostalgic cash in. Just nine months into its existence, and Disney+ original programming has already run the full gamut, from critically beloved series like “The Mandalorian” to theatrical cast-offs best left forgotten. One piece of programming mostly missing so far: , family-friendly fare to fill a lazy Friday night. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, the lack of imagination on display in Mark Waters’ “Magic Camp” is almost more depressing than the incomprehensible weirdness of Kenneth Branagh’s Ya flop. At least that film was trying for something.
The best warning of what’s to come arrives in the opening credits: the film comes from six screenwriters, and while many of the half-dozen scribes (not counting the two additional with only “story by” credits) it took to write “Magic Camp” are quite talented folk, little of that magic makes its way into this feature. Final credits don’t even include Steve Martin,...

Whether you side with the Occupation or the Resistance, you can rejoice with the news that the USA Network has renewed Colony for a third season.
Multiple outlets, including THR, report that a 13-episode third season of Colony will premiere sometime in 2018 (the first two seasons had January premieres). Created by Carlton Cuse and Ryan J. Condal, the series takes place in a Los Angeles under siege by enigmatic aliens known as "Hosts." While the Hosts and their drones employ murderous methods to keep people in line, it's the humans that work for them that can be the most brutal. The second season finale of the series airs this Thursday, April 6th on USA.

★★★★☆ Reinvention and familial turmoil have long been hallmarks of David O. Russell's particular brand of knockabout cinema and his latest collaboration with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, Joy, is a wonderful fairytale marriage of the two. It's a banana flambé with extra rum that brazenly throws together folksy storytelling, arch soap opera melodrama and a typically eccentric cast into a golden Hollywood crack at the American Dream. "I don't need a prince," declares the young protagonist (Isabella Crovetti-Cramp) before J-Law takes over leading lady duties and carries the fortunes of on-screen and off-screen families on her increasingly charismatic shoulders.

Last year I began a tradition to help my fellow Bfca members choose more wisely when it comes to the "Young Performer" category by sharing an eligibility list. My belief is they often choose poorly because this category gets no pre-voting discussion whatsoever and it can be difficult to even think of who is eligible. That said, you can safely expect to see Abraham Attah (Beasts of No Nation) and Jacob Tremblay (Room) nominated because they have leading roles in films that have been discussed. But who else should or could be nominated?
Ballots go out to the Bfca at any moment so here's a cheat sheet to help them vote. The category is Under 21... (but it should obviously be adjusted to 17 and under. It's time for the aliens to go home. ABC has cancelled The Neighbors after two seasons and 44 episodes.
A family sitcom, The Neighbors follows the Weaver clan as they try to live in a beautiful gated community that's filled with alien visitors from the planet Zabvron. The ensemble castmembers are Jami Gertz, Lenny Venito, Simon Templeman, Toks Olagundoye, Tim Jo, Clara Mamet, Ian Patrick, Isabella Cramp, and Max Charles.
After a first season of mediocre ratings, the series could have been cancelled last May. However, ABC decided to stick with it and scheduled it on Friday nights. Expectations on Fridays are lower but The Neighbors' ratings ended up being too low for a third season renewal.
Castmate Olagundoye tweeted the news, "Tweeps, I have known since last night, but was not able to share the news until it was announced publicly.
