You have to suspend a hefty amount of disbelief in order to enjoy the kiddy horror pic “Spirit Halloween: The Movie” since, yes, it is a feature-length commercial for the Spirit Halloween chainstore. This lightly likable action-adventure advert rehashes the formulaic story beats that its filmmakers cribbed from a variety of acknowledged influences, including Amblin productions like “Gremlins” and “The Goonies.”

You might also think of Robert Zemeckis’s two Amblin movies, “Back to the Future” and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” given the presence of Christopher Lloyd, who makes a brief appearance as a vengeful ghost who hopes to possess a new human body. (Lloyd otherwise delivers his lines off-camera as a voice actor.)

Unfortunately, screenwriter Billie Bates and first-time director David Poag don’t have a knack for snappy dialogue or a general sensitivity for child and/or amateurish acting, which inadvertently puts way too much strain on the movie’s younger performers.

Netflix has shared the first trailer for He’s All That, a reimagined version of the 1999 teen rom-com She’s All That. The new film stars TikTok star Addison Rae and Tanner Buchanan in the lead roles and premieres August 27th on the streaming platform.

In a gender-swapped version of She’s All That (which, in turn, is based on the stage shows Pygmalion and My Fair Lady), the film stars Rae as Padgett Sawyer, an aspiring beauty influencer who is tasked with turning the least popular boy in her high school, Cameron Kweller (Buchanan), into prom king.

The actress, who is also a producer, voice artist and model, kicked off her film career as Mary Anne in The Baby-Sitters Club in 1995. Not too soon after, she shared the screen with Freddie Prinze Jr. in Iscove’s teen romcom and acted alongside Paul Walker and Matthew Lillard. Reality TV star and socialite Kardashian broke the news of her film debut with an Instagram post on Tuesday that showed her looking at a script. She captioned the post with “studying @hesallthatmovie.”

The film’s Instagram account then reposted Kardashian’s photo with the caption: “Introducing Jessica Miles Torres.”

In the gender-swapped redo of the 1999 movie, Rae is playing Padgett Sawyer, who is inspired by Freddie Prinze Jr.’s character Zack Siler from the original. Per the new film’s account, Cobra Kai actor Buchanan will play Cameron Kweller.

Production has begun on Disney's Magic Camp, a live-action comedy starring Adam Devine (Workaholics, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Pitch Perfect), Gillian Jacobs (Community, Girls) and Emmy and Golden Globe winner Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development, Transparent, The Larry Sanders Show) directed by Mark Waters (Bad Santa 2, Mean Girls). Los Angeles is still under siege from the visitors from above, but the Resistance grows stronger—and deadlier—as Colony moves into its second season on the USA Network. Ahead of its recently revealed season 2 premiere date, Colony is teased in a new trailer, and additional cast members for the sophomore season have also been announced.

According to EW, Keiko Agena (Gilmore Girls), Paolo Andino (The Last Ship), and the awesome William Russ (Boy Meets World, Girl Meets World) will join the season 2 cast. Shimmer and Shine are back to grant Leah's every wish. Nickelodeon has renewed the Shimmer and Shine TV show for a third season. Season three will have 20 episodes full of magical, musical adventures, featuring twin genies-in-training, Shimmer and Shine.

The series is created by Farnaz Esnaashari-Charmatz and produced at Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, California. The Shimmer and Shine TV series voice cast includes Alina Foley, Isabella Crovetti-Cramp, Eva Bella, and Blake Bertrand.
