It seems a bit premature, but we wanted to have a place where we could begin tracking upcoming Netflix Originals expected to be hitting our screens in 2026. This is an extension to our 2025 movie and TV schedule, which we’ll continue to keep updated throughout 2025.
Important note: Given how far out we are from 2026, everything on this list is highly subject to change. We’ll keep it updated throughout 2025 and into 2026 with the latest confirmations of releases. As of right now, for most titles listed below, we’ve made assumptions based on filming schedules and/or if they’ve been excluded from the 2025 schedule. Of course, Netflix’s development slate is certainly much bigger than what this list implies, with likely well over 1,000 projects that have been announced or titles being worked on behind the scenes, although many will not see the light of day.

Over the last decade or two, one particular trend in Hollywood has left moviegoers divided. This specific trend involves major studios electing to remake their fan-favorite films from years before. Some enjoy seeing their favorite stories be brought back to life, while others would prefer to see studios dedicating their resources to more original ideas. Regardless of where you stand on this debate, it is impossible to deny that the movie world has recently been flooded with remakes of popular films.
A major reason why so many of these remakes are happening is because they often feel like a surefire way to make a massive profit by capitalizing on a pre-existing audience. However, several recent attempts have demonstrated that success is not a guarantee. Some remakes unfortunately end up thoroughly underwhelming their audiences, failing to offer all the exciting elements that made the original films so popular, particularly when it...

A lone Norwegian freighter braves Nazi U-boats and bombers in a desperate attempt to supply Russian soldiers during World War II. Inspired by real events, The Arctic Convoy shines a deserving spotlight on the heroic civilian sailors who risked death on treacherous open waters. Cargo ships were vital arteries of hope against the Germans but were easy targets for merciless submarines and aerial assault. The Arctic Convoy explores the constant vigilance, fear, and internal strife faced in close quarters and rough seas under duress. Its taut interpersonal drama and well-executed action scenes are admirable. But the film does suffer from sluggish pacing and strained exposition that muddies the runtime.

The name Harry Hole may sound like a joke to a lot of English speakers, but Norwegian author Jo Nesbø has managed to build a bestselling series of crime novels around the character – whose last name is meant to be pronounced as “Hoo-leh.” There have been thirteen books in the Harry Hole series to date, with the seventh one having previously been brought to the screen as the 2017 film The Snowman… which, despite having Tomas Alfredson at the helm, Martin Scorsese on board as a producer, and a strong cast that included Michael Fassbender as Hole, did not turn out well. (You can read our 3/10 review Here.) Now Nesbø is seeking redemption for his character by teaming with Working Title and the Netflix streaming service for a series called Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole, which is set to star Tobias Santelmann (The Last Kingdom) as Hole. Half a century ago, Universal Pictures hoped to carry over the success of its entries in the short-lived disaster film vogue to naval combat movies, stirring some box office if few other rewards via dullish “Midway” and “Gray Lady Down,” which felt like bloated retro B-movies. Having revived the disaster genre with trilogy “The Wave,” “The Quake” and “The Burning Sea,” their Norwegian producers seem to be going the same route with “The Arctic Convoy,” about the perilous voyage of a freighter delivering supplies to Allies on the eastern front during World War 2.

Ragnar's absence from The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die's Valhalla sequence ruins his character's ending and casts doubt on whether Uhtred and Brida's efforts to help him reach Valhalla were successful. The decision to exclude Ragnar and other characters from the film was made to keep the cast limited to those most pertinent to the plot and to prevent overstretching the storyline. However, Ragnar's inclusion in the Valhalla sequence would not have detracted from the plot or other character arcs and would have honored his story, making the film's ending more complete.

Medieval arms expert Tobias Capwell criticizes The Last Kingdom's Battle of Edington, calling the use of rectangle-shaped shields "ridiculous" and "stupid." Capwell explains that real early Medieval shields were circular and made out of boards that were sealed and glued together, with no openings for air. The Last Kingdom's depiction of battle scenes, including the Battle of Edington, may contain inaccuracies in terms of Medieval arms, according to Capwell.

Spoiler Alert: Do not keep reading if you have not finished Season 5 of “The Last Kingdom.”
“The Last Kingdom” is coming to an end.
Although a two-hour movie followup is currently filming, Season 5 of the Netflix historical drama wraps up the story of its central character, Uhtred of Bebbanburg, played by Alexander Dreymon, in a very satisfying way — as the sins of Uhtred’s past collide head on with his present and the future of England.
Uhtred finds himself in an unusual place at the beginning of the season — unable to be with Aethelflaed (Millie Brady), the woman he loves and the Lady of Merica, he presides over a Mercian border town at her request. But strange things are in the air, as Brida (Emily Cox) is determined to have her vengeance once and for all and the enemies of the House of Wessex are gathering.

Tragedy strikes forty years after moving to Sweden and the loss is so profound that Trond (Stellan Skarsgård) discovers it difficult to continue on as before. When your life is changed so fully and abruptly, a desire to “pick up the pieces” very often pales in comparison to simply leaving them behind. Gone was his tether to the city and connection to his possessions. Gone was his sense of home itself. So he decides to leave and find another in the desolate countryside of Norway. Trond escapes an identity he’d spent decades cultivating to embrace the quiet of isolation instead. This is how he’ll survive the changing of the millennium alone. Rather than be reminded of who was missing during the inevitable celebrations, he’d go missing himself too.
Like everyone in Hans Petter Moland’s latest film Out Stealing Horses, Trond doesn’t want pity nor judgment.

An unexpected encounter forces a bereaved widower to remember a fateful summer with his father. Out Stealing Horses vividly captures the transition from innocent adolescence to hardened adulthood. Adapted from the prizewinning novel by Norwegian author Per Petterson, Out Stealing Horses is a deeply spiritual, beautifully shot coming of age drama. It examines how tragic events irreparably shatter the bonds we hold dear, and changes the course of our lives.
The film opens on a snowy cottage near a rural Norwegian village. It is November 1999, a month before the new millennium. Trond (Stellan Skarsgård) has no interest in celebrating. His only desire is to be left alone. He's haunted by the car accident that killed his wife. Trond's troubled sleep is interrupted by shouting. He goes outside into the frosty night to find a man (Bjørn Floberg) searching for his lost dog. The neighbor introduces himself as Lars.

"The way we carried on, something had to go wrong." Magnolia Pictures has released an official trailer for Out Stealing Horses, a Norwegian drama about a man thinking back on his life and his adolescence. The film originally premiered at the Berlin Film Festival last year, and is finally getting a release in the Us this summer after opening in Norway originally more than a year ago. Stellan Skarsgård stars as a man living alone quietly in Norway, who meets a new neighbor that he recognizes as someone from his youth. This takes him back to the summer of 1948 when he was 15 years old, and the events that summer that changed his life forever. Also starring Bjørn Floberg, Tobias Santelmann, Jon Ranes, and Danica Curcic. This is an excellent trailer for this unique Norwegian film, more than just a coming-of-age story. I caught this at Berlinale and quite liked it,...

Given that Hans Petter Moland just spent a few years remaking his own Euro-thriller as a commercially viable Liam Neeson vehicle, you might assume the prolific filmmaker is pivoting to a global audience. Not so fast. His latest feature — a tender and meditative drama that screened in Competition at the Berlinale less than 24 hours after “Cold Pursuit” opened in theaters — is nothing if not distinctly Norwegian. And, like so many of that country’s finer things, it may prove too particular for closed-minded audiences on the other side of the Atlantic.

New films by Agnieszka Holland, Agnes Varda and Isabel Coixet have been added to the official lineup of the upcoming Berlin Film Festival, along with special screenings of directorial debuts by British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor and “Narcos” star Wagner Moura of Brazil.
