Tales of musicians who sold their soul for fame are common enough, Crossroads, Trick or Treat, Dark Roads 79 and The 27 Club are just a few examples. The Devil Went Down to Islington is a little different, however. It tells the tale of a music teacher who makes a Faustian bargain while drunk, only to panic when he realizes what he’s done.
It actually opens like a bizarre action film with Father Crowley using switchblade crosses to fight a pair of masked figures who are attacking a panicked man. He defeats them, but in the end Satan claims another soul.
John Robertson Has had a morning from hell, and he hasn’t even sold his soul yet. He fails to save his cat from the garbage truck, then an Ofsted inspector shows up,...

Us and Them… Sums up the current state of the scocio-political climate perfectly don’t you think? The haves and the have-nots. The rich and the poor. It’s a class war that has been raging for longer than many can remember and one that won’t be ending anytime soon. And that idea of a class war, the struggle between rich and poor, seems to be what writer/director Joe Martin is aiming for with this, his first feature film. Only he does it by way of a home invasion thriller!
The film tells the story of three rough and ready British lads, intent on making a grand and brutish statement on economic inequality in the UK, use one upper crust family as their sacrificial lamb.

A banker’s family home is invaded by thugs in a gritty drama whose message gets swamped by a third-act bloodbath
When posh young woman Phillipa (Sophie Colquhoun) brings her boyfriend back to meet her callous banker dad (Tim Bentinck) and prissy mum (Carolyn Backhouse), lunch is rather spoiled when class warfare breaks out. The boyfriend Danny (Jack Roth), turns out to be not only a rude young chap with a broad Estuary accent, he’s also an armed robber.
Determined to fill in the chip on his shoulder and make daddy pay for all the banking bailout of 2008, he and his mates (Andrew Tiernan and Daniel Kendrick) tie up the family and threaten them with violence unless dad opens his home safe. But first Danny insists on giving them lectures about their moral turpitude while filming himself as jokey intertitles introduce flashbacks. All in all, the effect is like...

Mark Schwahn has been accused of sexual harassment by 25 female crew members who work on his E! soap “The Royals.” The women all signed an open letter in which they describe “repeated unwanted sexual harassment” at the hands of Schwahn. The creator was accused of similar allegations earlier this week by the female cast and crew of “One Tree Hill.”
“Upon reading a statement from the ladies of ‘One Tree Hill,’ a statement from their Royal sisters could not possibly go unwritten,” the letter begins. The women say they were aware of the rumors surrounding Schwahn’s behavior on the set of “One Tree Hill” but went into the filming of “The Royals” hoping they were “just rumors.” “By the time we wrapped this had irrevocably proven not to be the case,” they write.

The most that any of us can hope for is just surviving. Isn’t it time we started living? Us and Them squarely takes on economic pressures that are building in the UK (and frankly, issues that are affecting nearly every other country on the map these days), as Danny (Jack Roth), a member of the lower class who recently lost his father to suicide, decides to take his frustrations out on a wealthy banker and his family to inspire others in his predicament to start fighting back against the elite. But when his plan goes south, that’s when all hell breaks loose, and we see just how much of a motivator money can be, especially when it comes to murder.
Us and Them begins with Phillipa (Sophie Colquhoun) taking her boyfriend, Glen (Paul Westwood), home to meet her affluent parents. On their travels to the family estate, the...

It's not easy being Prince Liam on The Royals. Especially when you have two gorgeous women who are after you. #princeproblems First there's Ophelia (Merritt Patterson), the sweet girl-next-door (who literally lives next door to Liam at the palace) and is the daughter of the family's head of security. But don't you dare call Ophelia a commoner—not only is she smart but she isn't afraid of anyone...not even the Queen of England herself. Then there's Gemma (Sophie Colquhoun), the stunning socialite who is the ideal daughter-in-law on paper. She's rich, poised and practically perfect—aside from the fact that she left Liam in the dust ten months ago...and now she wants him...

It's a "royal" print-off! Michelle Obama stepped out in Cambodia to continue her Asian tour promoting the "Let Girls Learn" education initiative in a printed skirt and top look from Alice + Olivia (completely the colorful, fun yet put-together look we've come to expect from Flotus). Just two weeks earlier, The Royals star Sophie Colquhoun attended the E! series' premiere party at The Standard in Los Angeles wearing an Alice + Olivia ball skirt in the same print. We think this abstract look is chic in both incarnations: The structured two-piece looks flawless on the first lady, while Colquhoun's ball skirt version is equally striking. But we can't help but mention that...

The sexy socialite tries to warm Liam up with some friendly conversation, but when she starts grilling him about Ophelia, that's when Gemma's true intentions show. "I'm not with her," Liam exclaims. "We're just hanging out." "Good," Gemma says. "Because you're all...

This review is based on the first three episodes of season 1, which were provided to us prior to broadcast.
It’s not even faint praise to write that The Royals is exactly the kind of scripted drama that one would expect E!, a network notorious for noxious reality trash like The Girls Next Door and Keeping Up with the Kardashians, to make. Dully acted, preposterously written and populated by generically photogenic characters almost as loathsome as E!’s reality “stars,” the series is so train-wreck terrible that it’s difficult to even recommend it for hate-watching.
Peering inside the gates of Buckingham Palace to look at the strange, sordid and thoroughly silly lives of a British royal family (writer-creator Mark Schwahn has been careful with his articles, noting that The Royals isn’t about the actual royal family – because the kind of audience member E! hopes to attract apparently needs...

Premiering this week to TV screens is a new comedy from ITV2. Whilst recent British comedies have been more contemporary and reflecting the trials and tribulations of modern British life, Plebs opts for something different: the location of Ancient Rome as its main backdrop.
WhatCulture managed to speak to one of the stars of the new sitcom, Lydia Rose Bewley, who gained attention for starring in 2011’s The Inbetweeners Movie.
So, what is Plebs?
Well its set in ancient Rome centred around three boys who live in a mudhut. I play their slave called Metella, who sorts of gets dragged into a lot of their escapades.
Tell us a bit more about your character and how she’s involved overall in the story?
As I said, my character’s called Metella and she’s a slave, but really has a lot more going on in her head than most of the other characters do.

The delectable Anna Popplewell (below) has left the land of Narnia and hasn't looked back when she boarded writer/director John Hales' 'Passengers' this past Summer. EastEnders: E20 star Sophie Colquhoun has revealed that the internet spinoff will have a grittier tone this year. E20 returned for its third series on Tuesday and will play out online and on BBC Three over the next five weeks, focusing on three young characters who hide out together on Albert Square. Colquhoun, who plays runaway Ava Bourne on the show, told Digital Spy: "It's very different this year as it's taken a very different tone. It's very gritty, it's a lot more real, it's a lot more dramatic, a lot more sensitive, and I think it's addressing issues that are very prevalent today. "Although a lot of these issues are regularly pointed at in drama, they're never actually discussed and that's what we're pushing to do in this series. We want to say that these things are happening, they're not going away (more)...

EastEnders star Modupe Adeyeye has predicted that Fatboy Chubb could be a good match for her character Faith Olubunmi. Faith was recently seen making a move on Fatboy (Ricky Norwood) on the main soap and they will continue to share scenes on the new series of EastEnders: E20, which launched yesterday. EastEnders: E20 also sees Faith develop a crush on troubled Donnie Lester (Samuell Benta) while hiding out with him and Ava Bourne (Sophie Colquhoun) on Albert Square. Adeyeye told Digital Spy: "Faith really likes Donnie. I think Donnie would like Faith too, but she gives away everything on a plate. She doesn't let you find anything out about her or keep anything back, she just puts it all out there." Eastenders spin-off E20 returns on 20 September 2011 with three new troublesome teens - Ava, Donnie and Faith to shake things up in Albert Square for Series 3.
Sophie Colquhoun (represented by Independent Talent) plays Ava, described as a closed book, who can look after herself. People think she's a bit stuck-up, which is odd for a girl who's spent the last while in the care system. She comes across as certain, definite, even hard. But underneath that cool and brittle façade, Ava has a secret past which she is constantly trying to get away from but will it follow her to Albert Square?
Sophie graduated from Guildhall drama school in 2009 and has previously appeared in a number of film and TV productions including Channel 4's The It Crowd. "Who ever thought working [on E20] could be so much fun!" confesses Sophie. "It has been amazing experience"
