Assal Ghawami is a multilingual film and theater director, screenwriter and producer. Ghawami is of German nationality and Iranian descent and she is currently residing in the United States. After finishing her MFA in Screenwriting and Directing at NYU Tisch School of the Arts at Maurice Kanbar Institute, Ghawami founded ExpatFilms, a boutique film production company developing and producing international co-productions. Ghawami's films center stories about women and people of color. She has been an active advocate of the Elder Justice Act and produced several films about elder abuse and neglect.
