The internet let out a collective sob when Beyoncé’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, shut down rumors that the 32-time Grammy winner would be performing at the Democratic National Convention.
“At home watching and anticipating the VP’s historic speech,” wrote Noel-Schure prior to Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Nominee, taking the stage on Thursday. “Focus on the win and register to vote. Do not report rumors. Focus.”
Her post was seen as a direct reference to rampant speculation that the Renaissance star would appear at the four-day long event.

Golden Globes host Jo Koy’s monologue was received poorly by both those in the room and many watching at home, but fellow comedians shared sympathy for their fellow comic — while also expressing discontent with his choice to blame his writers for the widely panned performance.
Comedian Laurie Kilmartin, who also hosts a podcast about the craft of comedy and wrote on “Conan,” was one of the prominent insider voices rising to Koy’s defense.
“This is a Terrible gig, this audience sucks,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the job Koy himself noted he was just hired for 10 days prior. “They’re famous, nervous and humorless, and 10 days is genuinely not enough time to write about 500 jokes, which is how many you need to find 15 suitable jokes.”

At the start of the writers strike, The Animation Guild, an entirely separate union to the WGA, came out in support of the labor action, pledging to “stand in solidarity” with WGA members.
However, as the strike hits the eight-week mark, one of the key issues in the TV animation world has reared its head again: the unusual way that animation projects are covered by labor unions.
Michael Jamin, a co-executive producer of animated series including King of the Hill and Brickleberry as well as live-action series such as Tacoma Fd and Lopez, highlighted the topic in a recent video (see it below).
“By some strange loophole, animated shows are either covered by the Animation Guild or the WGA, and strangely, it’s the studios that get to decide which one, not the writers themselves,” he said. “It seems to be me as that should be illegal, it seems like...

Walt Disney’s announcement that Bob Chapek would be stepping down as CEO and the retired Bob Iger was replacing him effective immediately has stunned the industry, with Hollywood taking the news with a mix of shock, confusion and (in most cases) approval.
A rival studio source noted that the timing was suspect and that it was less of a shock that Chapek had been removed than that Iger had agreed to return. “There is a real question of what is expected of (Iger),” they said, asking for anonymity, adding that it is generally expected that he would undo most of Chapek’s structural choices.
Multiple industry sources expressed shock at Iger’s return because the former (and now present) CEO so often declared that he and his wife Willow Bay were enjoying retirement. Moreover, this transition occurred just before Thanksgiving week and days before the theatrical release of Walt...

Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, Marvel, Pixar and Disney Parks are denouncing anti-lgbtq+ legislation like the “Don’t Say Gay” bill as employees across the company are participating in a Disney Walkout on Tuesday.
The statements of support for the LGBTQ+ community arrived early Tuesday as employees announced they would not be working and would be participating in a walkout, using the hashtag #DisneyDoBetter and sharing a list of demands for how the company at large should take steps to protect LGBTQ+ rights.
“Today and every day, we Hulugans are united against all legislation that infringes on the basic human rights of the Lgbtqia+ community,” Hulu wrote in a tweet Tuesday morning. “We stand with our Lgbtqia+ colleagues, storytellers, families, friends, and fans who are targeted by laws that marginalize and diminish their identities and lives. We remain committed to telling inclusive stories that unite us and celebrate the diverse Lgbtqia+ community.

The Animation Guild’s Executive Board and QueerTAG Committee posted a response to social media regarding Disney’s CEO Bob Chapek and his lack of action or statement condemning Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
“It is disheartening that Disney, one of the world’s most successful brands with massive resources and a global platform, failed to take any action to help prevent the passage of this bill,” said the group. “It is one thing to say that you ‘unequivocally stand in support of our LGBTQ+ employees, their families, and their communities.’ It’s quite another for you to stand silent while this scurrilous piece of homophobic legislation passes.”
Disney employees at various levels and celebrities are speaking out against the company especially after reports the company donated money to politicians sponsoring the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

At Disney’s last shareholder meeting the big issue was a sad girl scout who couldn’t see Raya And The Last Dragon with her troop because their local theater hadn’t accepted Disney’s stiff rental terms to show the film.
At the 2022 meet, which unspools at 1 pm Et Wed., CEO Bob Chapek arrives with a bigger controversy on his hands — the maelstrom surrounding his perceived late and weak-kneed response to Florida legislation that critics are calling the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill.
Social media has been buzzing with discontent from in and outside the company with hastags #DisneySayGay, #saygaydisney and #DisneyDoBetter, accelerating since a statement by Chapek yesterday declined to condemn the bill, which would effectively ban discussion of the LGBTQ+ community and “sexual orientation or gender identity” in the state’s public schools from kindergarten to 3rd grade.

Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek issued a memo to staff members March 7 to state that the corporation “unequivocally” supports LGBTQ+ rights, despite donating to “Don’t Say Gay” bill backers for years. But Disney employees quickly took to Twitter to voice their disdain, calling the statement too, little too late.
“[Disney is] starting to include more LGBT characters that let kids know that being gay is all right. But when they have donated to the sponsors and co-sponsors of the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill and they have made no position against this bill, and they are going to continue donating to these politicians, they are essentially saying that this bill is Ok,” animation writer Benjamin Siemon said in a video posted on Twitter. “This bill is going to hurt kids, and that’s why I’m asking Disney to please take a position on the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill...

As the Walt Disney Co. takes heat for a report detailing how the company has financially backed all of the sponsors of Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” legislation, employees and artists associated with Disney have taken to social media to criticize its response to the bill.
Particularly upsetting many staffers is CEO Bob Chapek’s memo expressing “unwavering commitment to the LGBTQ+ community” despite the lack of a public statement opposing the bill, which would limit discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools.
The email, which Chapek sent to Disney staffers on Monday, reads: “In terms of our communities, we are and will continue to be a leader in supporting organizations that champion diversity. In 2021, we provided nearly $3 million to support the work of LGBTQ+ organizations. And, we have a long history of supporting important events like Pride parades.” Directly addressing Disney’s silence on the bill,...

As Marvel fans prepared to round out yet another week of waiting for the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, a different and much less pleasant surprise awaited them instead after news broke that Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney over breach of contract.
Johansson has starred in eight blockbuster Marvel Cinematic Universe entries as Natasha Romanoff – a former Russian spy who has defected to fight for the US government – including her final solo film in the franchise, which saw its release delayed several times during the pandemic. The actress has a successful career outside of her various Marvel Studios projects, and revealed she was done playing the character during a press tour for Black Widow earlier this month.

If this post contains spoilers, I don’t know what they are.
In a surprising addition to the superhero discourse this week, fans have been taking to Twitter and other social media platforms in an effort to offer their two cents when it comes (or not) to whether Batman and other heroes perform cunnilingus.
How did this happen? Well, it all started with a fairly straightforward interview about how successful TV series like WandaVision, The Umbrella Academy, and Harley Quinn subvert the superhero genre – one that happened to produce an irresistible nugget of DC info that the internet is still very much feasting on at the time of writing.
Obviously it’s an interviewer’s dream when the person you’re quizzing dishes up some behind the scenes secrets about the making of their art, but Harley Quinn co-creator Justin Halpern probably wasn’t expecting the widespread social media reaction to this new interview,...

The word “deplorable” is back in the news after a surprising exchange between President Trump and his South Korean counterpart, Moon Jae-in, at the U.N. on Thursday.
While discussing the rising tensions between his country and North Korea, Moon said, with the help of a translator, that “North Korea has continued to make provocations, and this is extremely deplorable.”
In response, Trump quipped that he was “very happy you used the word deplorable. I was very interested in that word.

President Donald Trump mistakenly referred to the African nation of Namibia as Nambia in a speech on Wednesday — and social media users were quick to pounce on the gaffe.

In the hours building up to the trailer's release, fans were giddy with excitement and getting impatient. While some were celebrating Thanksgiving and Black Friday, for others, there was only one thing to be planning their day around.

Mad Men might be done for the season (well, half-season), but it'll never be far from our hearts — and until the real show returns next year, at least we have this musical to tide us over. Mad Men: The Musical, written by Nadia Osman and Ben Siemon, was recently performed at Ucbla, and it covers everything up through the middle of season seven, so consider this a spoiler warning, though it's hard to imagine why someone would watch a goofy musical of a television series he or she is not already familiar with. Highlights include Joan's song "Always Keep a Pen Between Your Tits," the group number "If You Don't Like What They're Saying, Change the Conversation," and a very surly Betty.
