Darcy and Tom gather their families for a destination wedding, but the ceremony gets put on hold when gunmen take everyone hostage. Now, they must do everything they can to save their loved ones — if they don’t wind up killing each other first.
Despite the month of January being exceptionally good to us film fans so far, it appears we have finally found a movie that’s rather terrible in the form of Shotgun Wedding, directed by Jason Moore, whose previous film Sisters wasn’t too impressive, either, sadly.
It’s a shame because Moore’s directorial debut was Pitch Perfect, which is one of my all-time favourite comfort films that ended up spawning an entire franchise. Seriously, where did all of Moore’s talent go? Shotgun Wedding is now...

Jennifer Lopez’s and Josh Duhamel’s new rom-com “Shotgun Wedding” is centered around their destination wedding, but there’s trouble in paradise. As you can imagine by the title, the big day quickly turns into a far more action- and gun-packed situation than anyone planned.
Directed by Jason Moore (“Pitch Perfect”), “Shotgun Wedding” rolls romance, stunts and danger together with the help of a stacked ensemble cast as well as the occasional needle-drop moment. Mark Hammer’s script, developed from producer Alexander Young’s idea, lends itself well to humor, laughter and touching scenes between the leads as well as their supporting wedding parties.

Plot: Darcy and Tom gather their lovable but very opinionated families for the ultimate destination wedding just as the couple begins to get cold feet. And if that wasn’t enough of a threat to the celebration, suddenly everyone’s lives are in danger when the entire party is taken hostage. “’Til Death Do Us Part” takes on a whole new meaning in this hilarious, adrenaline-fueled adventure as Darcy and Tom must save their loved ones—if they don’t kill each other first.
Review: Romantic comedies are not the usual fare we review here at JoBlo.com, but we are not heartless monsters. Shotgun Wedding is a 2023 Prime Video comedy movie directed by Jason Moore starring Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel. The script is written by Mark Hammer.
Jennifer Lopez is the main atraction of this “other type” of romantic comedy that knows how to become more than just a comedy than a repetitive structure of planned scenes.
Leaving the tried and true… within its pretensions, of course.
Movie Review Shotgun Wedding (2023)
This is a comedy we were missing because of its classic spirit and above all, because it knows how to be the comedy it needs to be (we are talking about Hollywood’s golden years) and not fall into melodrama. Shotgun Wedding is more of an “action comedy” than a romantic one and although it is pretty “silly” (I don´t think anyone will deny this), it knows how to be acid when it has to be, and especially avoid some clichés,...

Shotgun Wedding, a new romantic action comedy film, promises laughs, thrills, and—as the title suggests—romance. The film is the second released feature by writer Mark Hammer, and was directed by Justin Moore of Pitch Perfect fame. Shotgun Wedding tells the story of an unsteady couple who must work together to save the attendees of their destination wedding after the wedding party is taken hostage.
Despite shake-ups behind the scenes and a long wait to reach audiences, Shotgun Wedding boasts an impressive, star-studded cast. Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel lead the film, while Lenny Kravitz and the always-wonderful Jennifer Coolidge also put their talents on display. Helping to elevate the actors' performances even further is the lively music for Shotgun Wedding, which was composed by the Emmy-nominated Turkish-American composer Pinar Toprak. Screen Rant is excited to exclusively premiere a selection from the upcoming Shotgun Wedding soundtrack, which features Toprak's score.

The new film "Shotgun Wedding" highlights the danger of having a reasonably interesting concept without similar follow-through. When the trailer was released a couple of months back, there were a number of folks on Twitter who seemed delightedly mystified at how a seemingly innocuous romantic comedy about a bride and groom getting set for their wedding in the Philippines turned into an action movie when said wedding is beset upon by vicious pirates. And the setup is indeed kind of a welcome and dark twist on the friendly, low-key, and low-stakes comedies that star Jennifer Lopez has made throughout her career. But the execution of the setup is desperately wanting, in part because the film and too many (though not all) of its players don't have the right comic notes or even know which ones to hit.
Considering some other recent big-screen romantic comedies, it's hard not to watch "Shotgun Wedding...

Last year when Marry Me, the romantic comedy starring Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson was being released, many were touting it as a return to form by the pop singer-turned-actress, once a reigning queen of rom-coms. But the film was hardly worth the fanfare and landed with a whimper in theaters and on streaming. Sometime around the release of that movie, Shotgun Wedding was in the works and seemed to signal that after an unfortunate snub fest for her performance in Hustlers, Lopez was returning to a most beloved genre. Shotgun Wedding appeared to be the right call — it took some familiar notes from J.Lo rom-coms of the past and threw it into an action movie blender. With a cast of iconic comedians and a totally game Lenny Kravitz in the mix, Shotgun Wedding seemed like a surefire hit, but it's overwhelmingly bland despite extra special ingredients being present.

Hollywood star Jennifer Lopez, who leads the cast of Jason Moore’s film “Shotgun Wedding”, was initially unsure about starring in the project after working on the movie “Marry Me” and was only convinced after reading Mark Hammer’s script, media reports said.
Jennifer said: “(I had) just signed on to do ‘Marry Me’ and was about to do it and was like, ‘Ah, I don’t want to do another wedding movie'”.
“I remember, I was in my tub and was like, ‘Let me read it and I was like, ‘Oh this is funny, this could be good; depending on who directed this, it could be really good.’ And then when we got (director) Jason Moore I was like, ‘Ok, this is gonna be fun’, and we got this amazing cast,” she told ‘The Hollywood Reporter’, ‘Female First UK’ reports.

Jennifer Lopez, Josh Duhamel in Shotgun Wedding Photo: Lionsgate Many weddings are chaotic, but none more so than in romcoms. Jennifer Lopez has been married a few times, both in life and in the movies — most recently twice last year with her real life wedding(s) to Ben Affleck, and on screen in her delightful Valentine’s Day-timed comedy Marry Me. Both made me happy for her, but her latest, Shotgun Wedding, is something altogether different, a frenetic action comedy that never puts on the brakes. It is a wild ride no doubt, but it isn’t the kind of wedding to which I need to be invited any time soon.
So the plot is pretty predictable, especially if you have seen a whole range of movies from Romancing the Stone to last spring’s The Lost City, manic films that pair a male and female star caught in treacherous circumstances and lets them argue and snap at each other for the better part of two hours as they face...

In this likable spin on the genre, Lopez’s wedding to a sensitive baseball player runs aground when a boatful of armed men arrive
Against the odds, the expectations and the run of play, here is a romcom starring Jennifer Lopez and it’s … well, it’s pretty good: enjoyably goofy and sparkily written. Lopez plays Darcy, a woman who agrees to a giant wedding party on a luxury Philippine island holiday resort which her insecure fiance Tom has laid on for her. He’s a failing baseball star, defensive about being recently dropped from the team and likably played by Josh Duhamel. (Ryan Reynolds is one of the executive producers and may possibly have had his eye on the role.)
There are some nice gags here, and smart twists from screenwriter Mark Hammer, and some funny supporting turns. Jennifer Coolidge comes close to stealing the whole thing as Darcy’s eccentric future mother-in-law Carol,...

“Not everything is about money!” exclaims bride-to-be Darcy at the rehearsal dinner for her idyllic-looking island wedding in the Philippines — a rebuke to her multi-millionaire father Robert, who wishes she’d let him pay to make the whole affair even more luxe. Perhaps she means it. Darcy claims she wanted to elope to avoid the whole foofaraw, while her “groomzilla” Tom, in a pleasing reversal of gender stereotypes, obsesses over table settings. When their elegant nuptials are crashed by a gang of ransom-seeking pirates, her instincts are proven correct — though as played by a typically immaculate Jennifer Lopez, she doesn’t seem like someone who craves the simple life. “Shotgun Wedding” may begin by separating rich from rich, though as the body count mounts in this oddly unpalatable romantic comedy, such distinctions fall away: In the face of impoverished, gun-toting Asian criminals, well-off Americans must mostly prevail.

Jennifer Lopez has long been on record as a lifelong romantic, and in the last year — with weddings both on and offscreen — she’s proven it. But sometimes, it’s ok to say “I don’t.”
“Shotgun Wedding” was proposed so long ago that Lopez has been matched with three different partners: Her first costar was Ryan Reynolds, who dropped out and now remains solely as an executive producer. He was replaced by Armie Hammer, whose personal controversies soon sent him in an entirely different direction. Somehow Josh Duhamel caught the bouquet, leaving him with the thankless role of Tom, a “groomzilla” who pays more attention to his pineapple centerpieces than to his fed-up fiancée, Darcy (Lopez).
There is no need for any screenwriter to rehash lazy wedzilla tropes ever again, regardless of gender. But Tom’s stress is at least a little understandable, with two demanding families sharing space...

Should you ever find yourself needing to kill time on a long journey — say, to a friend’s ill-advised nuptials in some distant tropical locale — you could probably do worse than Shotgun Wedding. It is, in a lot of ways, the quintessential plane movie: not bad enough to be offensive, neither good enough to demand your full attention nor complicated enough to require it, and better than having nothing to watch at all.
Here on the ground, though, where the options for theatrical and streaming content are nigh infinite, it’s a much harder sell. Directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), Shotgun Wedding amounts to an action romantic comedy in which the action is uninspired, the romance tepid and the comedy flat — such that not even rom-com queen Jennifer Lopez can elevate it above aggressive mediocrity.

Prime Video’s romantic comedy Shotgun Wedding features two actors very familiar with the genre, although this rom-com appears to be much more action-oriented than lovey-dovey. Do people still say lovey-dovey? Anyhow, the latest trailer shows the chaos that erupts after Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel’s wedding is interrupted by armed intruders.
The cast also includes Jennifer Coolidge (who just won a Golden Globe for her performance in The White Lotus), Sonia Braga, Cheech Marin, Selena Tan, and D’Arcy Carden. Callie Hernandez, Desmin Borges, Steve Coulter, Alberto Isaac, and Lenny Kravitz also join Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel for some rom-com action-thriller fun.
Jason Moore directed from a screenplay by Mark Hammer. Lopez, Todd Lieberman, David Hoberman, Alexander Young, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Benny Medina produced.

At the risk of hyperbole, I'm tempted to proclaim to all the masses that we're living in a golden age of trailers that tease one (relatively) normal movie premise and then take a complete 90-degree swerve into something else entirely. We just saw that unfold in real-time with the hilariously-named "Plane," the latest Gerard Butler actioner that unleashed one of the most entertaining title reveals we've received in quite some time. Oh, and should you be tempted to think that this trend is only able to be enjoyed ironically, take it from /Film's Ryan Scott that "Plane" does, in fact, deliver the goods.

Nothing can go wrong on Jennifer Lopez’s big day… right?
Wrong. The “Marry Me” actress and international pop star leads Prime Video’s upcoming romantic comedy, “Shotgun Wedding,” about a bride (Lopez) and groom (Josh Duhamel) whose nuptials lead to a horrific hostage situation, and not just because of the bad buffet. Callie Hernandez and Steve Coulter have joined the cast of Lionsgate’s action comedy Shotgun Wedding starring Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel. The film also stars Lenny Kravitz, Cheech Marin, D’Arcy Carden, Selena Tan, Desmin Borges and Alex Mallari and is being directed by Jason Moore.
Mark Hammer and Liz Meriwether penned the screenplay. In the film, Grace (Lopez) and Tom (Duhamel) gather their lovable but very opinionated families for the ultimate destination wedding just as the couple begins to get cold feet. Josh Duhamel is in talks to star opposite Jennifer Lopez in the Lionsgate romantic adventure “Shotgun Wedding,” replacing Armie Hammer in the lead role.
Hammer dropped out of the project last Wednesday, with a representative for the production explaining, “Given the imminent start date, Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision.”
Duhamel would star as Tom, opposite Lopez’s Darcy, in the film about a couple who gathers their families together for a destination wedding. Things start to go south, however, after the pair gets cold feet. But it really takes a turn for the worst when the entire wedding party is taken hostage.
The Lionsgate project was first announced last fall. Jason Moore will direct from a screenplay by Mark Hammer and Liz Meriwether. The film will be produced by Mandeville’s Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman, who previously produced “Wonder” for the studio,...

Lionsgate is closing multiple international deals with Amazon for the Jennifer Lopez-Armie Hammer comedy “Shotgun Wedding.”
The project stars Lopez as Darcy and Hammer as Tom, a couple who gathers their families together for a destination wedding. Things start to go south, however, after the two get cold feet. But that’s not the worst thing about the wedding from hell — the ceremony goes completely off the rails when the entire party is taken hostage.

Ryan Reynolds is starring in and producing the action-comedy “Shotgun Wedding” for Lionsgate.
The “Deadpool” star will produce through his Maximum Effort production company alongside Mandeville Films’ Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman. “Pitch Perfect” director Jason Moore will helm from an original script and pitch by Mark Hammer. Liz Meriwether will also collaborate on the screenplay.
The project reunites Reynolds with Lieberman and Hoberman, who worked together on the 2009 rom-com, “The Proposal,” which co-starred Sandra Bullock.
“I haven’t done a romantic comedy since ‘The Proposal,’ but I just fell in love with ‘Shotgun Wedding,'” Reynolds said. “It’s so refreshing and surprising. I can’t wait to bring it to life with Jason, Todd, Dave, and the great team at Lionsgate.”
“Shotgun Wedding” centers on a couple whose extravagant destination wedding is hijacked by criminals. In the process of saving their families, they rediscover why they fell in love in the first place.

Despite its muted release in the Us, Two Night Stand - starring Miles Teller and Analeigh Tipton - is pretty decent.
Well, I wasn't expecting much from this. Arriving in the UK on the back of precious little fanfare, Two Night Stand is a sort of romantic comedy with a simple premise: what happens the day after the one night stand? Specifically, when you've had a one night stand with someone, and then find yourself unable to leave their apartment the following day, thanks to some cheap-looking CG snow on the outside?
