One of the coolest and most beloved sub-genres for thriller, action, and drama fans is the spy genre and there’s a good reason. In a spy film or series, we get complicated and cool characters who put their lives on the line by going against numerous people and instead of always letting their guns talk they use more covert tactics, which are always thrilling to watch. So, Netflix being what it is, it has a large library of content and also some of the best spy shows you can find and that’s what inspired us to compile a list of the best spy shows you can watch on Netflix right now.

As the barrier between East and West crumbled, former assassin Kleo Straub searched for answers about her mysterious past. Season one of the hit spy-thriller Kleo saw our protagonist on a revenge-fueled mission after years of being wrongly imprisoned by the Stasi secret police. Now free but unmoored, Kleo worked to uncover the forces behind her downfall.
Season two picks up Kleo’s journey of self-discovery and brings him closer to home. Fleeing threats both new and familiar, she returns with reluctance to the suburban Berlin neighborhood of her childhood. There, surrounded by familiar haunts and faced with family secrets long buried, Kleo will find necessary but troubling clues about her origins.
Accompanied once more by police detective Sven Petzold, Kleo braces to re-open old wounds in pursuit of resolution. But powerful enemies from her former lives in both East and West Germany now hunt Kleo and the dangerous secrets she holds.

Story of a misbehaving sprite who gets access to the human world, and a fellow rebel, looks good but the story is a little flat
This German-Luxembourgian animation is a passable if unambitious hour and a half for under-10s, heavily in the orbit of Pixar both in terms of visuals and in its central conceit of the business of tooth-fairying as a Deliveroo-esque big-tech courier outfit. But unlike Inside Out and Soul’s pint-sized explainers of the psyche, there’s virtually no philosophical sprinkling on the cupcake here. Not that that will stop the young ’uns from gobbling it up anyway – but they might have enjoyed something more nutritious.
The exam to become a fully accredited tooth fairy seems easy enough. As the would-be disco earworm at the start of My Fairy Troublemaker has it, “Sneak inside, take the tooth, make the toy, and disappear!” Cookie-scoffing, misbehaving Violetta...

Kleo season one was unveiled on a mega Netflix Europe slate that included almost 20 projects in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, at which point the streamer committed to doubling its investment in the region to 500M Euros (482M) between 2021 and 2023. Hanno Hackfort (“4 Blocks”), Jella Haase (“Lollipop Minster”), Lisa Kreimeyer (Netflix), Viviane Andereggen (“Tatort”), Christian Beetz (“Make Love”), Georg Tschurtschenthaler (“Viral Dreams”), and actor Detlev Buck were amongst those that took part.
The idea of the panel was to present new material straight from the editing room with many of the series still six months away from being seen. The session provided a first look at a number of projects nearing completion, including the comedy “Greenlight – German Genius,...

"We're not there yet, but at least we're free." "Settling for 'good enough' won't change the world..." The Match Factory has debuted an official promo trailer for the German film Dear Thomas, from filmmaker Andreas Kleinert. This black & white biopic is about a German "poetic rebel" named Thomas Brasch, and it just won Best Film playing at the 2021 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival earlier this month. "Rebel. Poet. Revolutionary: Dear Thomas is a declaration of love to the writer Thomas Brasch." The film tells the story of the writer and artist Thomas Brasch, who escapes the constraints of the Gdr in the 1970s by setting out for the West, but does not find fulfillment there either. The expressive imagery and the phenomenal ensemble with an unleashed Albrecht Schuch in the title role make this artist''s biography a cinematic masterpiece. The cast includes Jella Haase, Ioana Iacob, Jörg Schüttauf, Anja Schneider,...

"You want to be something you cannot be. You want to be good in a world that is bad." Kino Lorber in the US has debuted their own official US trailer for the acclaimed, award-winning German epic drama Berlin Alexanderplatz, from filmmaker Burhan Qurbani. This premiered at last year's Berlin Film Festival and later won four German Film Awards including Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, and Best Score. This was also listed as my #2 film of 2020 on my Top 10 list from last year, as it reminded me of City of God in many ways. Qurbani is the third filmmaker to reinterpret the classic novel Berlin Alexanderplatz (a mini-series by R.W. Fassbinder was released in 1980). This modern day update follows an an undocumented immigrant from West Africa named Francis, played by Welket Bungué, who spirals further into the drug scene in Berlin in order to survive. Berlinale 2021: The Fam by Switzerland’s Fred Baillif has received the Generation 14Plus Grand Prix, while Olga Lucovnicova’s short My Uncle Tudor won the Golden Bear. The pandemic, express edition of the Berlinale has already started announcing its award winners. After having kicked off its industry and press event on Monday, it’s now turn for the juries of the Generation and Berlinale Shorts sections to announce their verdicts. Weighing up a selection of a total of 15 feature films, and with one jury for both competitions, owing to the pandemic, the members of the International Jury for Generation – German actress Jella Haase, Dutch director Mees Peijnenburg and German director Melanie Waelde – announced The Fam by Swiss director Fred Baillif as the winner of the Grand Prix for the Best Film in the Generation 14Plus strand. The jury statement reads, “Like a rushing, energetic, pulsing heartbeat, this film pushes.
“The Fam” (“La Mif”), Swiss filmmaker Fred Baillif’s bruising, raw portrait of the residents and staff of a Geneva, Switzerland, teen girl care home, has won the Berlinale’s Generation 14plus Grand Prix
“Like a rushing, energetic, pulsing heartbeat, this film pushes its characters and viewers in brutal honesty through different stories and incidents. Carried by captivating and strong acting performances, it never loses its balance between power and vulnerability. The film pulls you in, never lets go and hits straight to the heart,” the jurors said in their praise of the pic.
“The Fam,” which features remarkable performances for non-pro actors, is produced by the director’s own outfit, Freshprod, and Rts, the Swiss French-language public television. It is sold by Latido Films.
A Special Mention in the category Feature Film Generation 14plus went to U.S. director Dash Shaw’s animated fantasy “Cryptozoo,” which premiered at Sundance.

Peccadillo Pics in the UK has released a UK trailer for the German coming-of-age / sexual awakening drama Cocoon, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. The twin pillars of Alfred Döblin’s epochal 480-page 1929 German-language novel and Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s deeply influential 15-hour miniseries, first broadcast in 1980, together create an overarching shadow from which Burhan Qurbani’s relatively svelte three-hour contemporary reworking of “Berlin Alexanderplatz” struggles to escape.
Although promising a deep-cut dash of contemporary topicality by reimagining the main character as an undocumented African immigrant, there is the sense that the unimpeachable craft and performances — especially from rivetingly charismatic lead Welket Bungué — ultimately add up to just too slick a package. Qurbani’s take starts off confident in the newness of its approach but soon comes to operate as a well-oiled, smoothly functioning machine for the manufacture of bad luck, fatal flaws and tragic, poetic justice. It misses out on the source material’s caustic, messy edge: the way the grime of the very Berlin streets can work itself like grit into the gears of fate.
