The Diplomat is expected to return to Netflix in 2025 with a season 3 of the political thriller starring Keri Russell as the US ambassador to the UK, Kat Wyler, and Rufus Sewell as her husband, Hal. After the explosive ending of season 2, which revealed betrayal and possibly left many essential characters for dead, the series is prepared to bring an even more exciting third season.
The ending of season 2 revealed the shocking news that it wasn’t Iran or Russia that ordered the British aircraft blown up, but it was British prime minister Nicol Trowbridge, played by Rory Kinnear. It also seems that he is the one who ordered another explosion; this one aimed at killing Hal Wyler (Sewell), deputy chief of mission Stuart Hayford (Ato Essandoh), office clerk Ronnie (Jess Chanliau), and MP Merritt Grove (Simon Chandler).

Warning: Major spoilers ahead for The Diplomat season 2.After being introduced in The Diplomat season 1, Celia Imrie's Margaret Roylin plays an even bigger part in the latest run of the Netflix political drama, and her arc is very different from the previous run. Imrie is a major part of The Diplomat season 2 cast, as most of the story can't progress without Roylin's involvement. However, she lacks the freedom she had in The Diplomat season 1. Regardless, that doesn't stop her being a huge part of the plot.
The Diplomat season 2's ending wouldn't have happened if not for Celia Imrie's character. Roylin's connections to both Roman Lenkov and Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge make for an explosive season 2 finale that has been developing since the show's very first episode. Excitingly, the drama isn't over yet, and Roylin's influence must carry on into The Diplomat season 3's storyline - even if she...

The cast of The Diplomat continues to shine in the Netflix political dramas sophomore season, with their compelling performances making the journey to make sense of the chaos brought forth by The Diplomat season 1s cliffhanger finale extraordinary. If The Diplomat season 1 began with Kate Wyler begrudgingly taking over the position of US ambassador to the UK, unaware of Hal and Billies plans to use that posting as a trial run to see if Kate could be vice-president material, The Diplomat season 2 is set to have a different tone. Indeed, Kates priorities greatly changed after season 1s finale.

The Diplomat season 2 is officially done filming, according to star Nana Mensah. And, there's even more good news!
Mensah told TV Line that filming wrapped in the UK. She also shared that season 2 should be released on Netflix later this year. Keri Russell is a television star who commands the screen in almost anything she is in. However, her role as Ambassador Kate Wyler is easily her best. Russell reigns supreme in the second season of The Diplomat, a show so smart, so funny, and so damn entertaining that it should be required viewing for any student in any screenwriting course.
Debora Cahn’s The Diplomat is simply the smartest show on television! The writing is masterful, the dialogue is addictive, and the performances are compelling on almost every level. Perhaps no other series on television works on so many different levels so effortlessly. The characters are complex, the themes are timely, and the plot is suspenseful and strategic.

Perhaps no other series on television works on so many different levels so effortlessly. The characters are complex, the themes are timely, and the plot is suspenseful and strategic.

Editor’s note: Spoilers for Season 1 of “The Diplomat.”
Viewers would be forgiven for not remembering all the details from the explosive (literally!) Season 1 finale of “The Diplomat.”
A lot happened in the eight-episode first season — even before the fire-y final moments that found Kate’s (Keri Russell) husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) possibly blown up by a car bomb. At one point, even more international shit was going to go down.
“Because I’m an idiot, I believed that in the first season, the entire plot that is Season 1 and Season 2 would fit into Season 1,” creator Debora Cahn told IndieWire. “We then got to Episode 7, and I started writing 7, and I was like, ‘This is too much plot. This is stupid.'”
Needless to say, the team hit the ground running in Season 2, which picks up immediately after the explosion. In the Season 1 finale, Kate, the titular U.S. diplomat to the U.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Diplomat season 1.
New footage from The Diplomat season 2 suggests that Hal may have survived the car explosion, adding intrigue to the upcoming season. The appearance of a man who resembles Hal in the footage is the strongest evidence so far that he is alive, potentially bringing Rufus Sewell back for season 2. Hal's potential survival could impact The Diplomat season 2, leading to a shift in his ambitions and a possible improvement in his marriage with Kate as they uncover Trowbridge's corruption.
New footage for The Diplomat season 2 hints that one major character may not be dead after all. In the explosive season 1 finale of The Diplomat, a car bomb went off that certainly killed former Member of Parliament Merritt Grove, who had tried to meet with U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) with an urgent message for the President. The Diplomat season 1 cliffhanger ending left...

The Diplomat is a series created by Debora Cahn starring Keri Russell.
The Diplomat is one of those series that know how to diligently go unnoticed and, without making too much noise, give a fine serious entertainment in a political intrigue that, although it could have been better with more tension and grip, dares to bet it all and gives a chance to this good actress who is Keri Russell.
About the Series
The Diplomat has everything, in the right measure and well managed. In small doses, yes: it is a good political intrigue with well profiled characters in a story with a coherent script. It knows how to develop in terms of story and achieve balance in the eight chapters.
The problem: its exquisite and outstanding precedents. It has neither the grace of some nor the intensity of others and, with these political intrigues, it is easy for the...
