Season 3 of Prime Video's hit coming-of-age drama The Summer I Turned Pretty has finally set its release window, but with the good news comes a heartbreaking announcement for fans who have been loving the series since it debuted back in 2022. Based on the trilogy of novels by author Jenny Han, the show stars Lola Tung as Isabel "Belly" Conklin, a teenager involved in a love triangle with two brothers, and how that situation affected her life and friendships as she grew up.
Per Deadline, The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 will premiere in July 2025, but for those hoping for more, this next season will be the last. Fans can take comfort in knowing it will at least run a little longer, and will be stretched out over 11 episodes. This is a huge difference compared to the seven episodes of Season 1, and the eight episodes of Season 2. In addition to Tung,...

To say Boys Go To Jupiter is visually stunning is an understatement in Julian Glander’s feature debut that is layered with intricate details and an all too familiar story that is a touch psychedelic.
From the offset you are instantly grabbed by the vibrant stylised animation that feels very unique, something different to what we’ve seen in recent years that makes you take notice. The colour palette is striking and reminiscent of how Wes Anderson uses this tool in his movies.
It almost in a way has shades of the claymation of Wallace & Gromit in a world that is realistic yet at the same time something we perhaps see in video games. Billy and his friends Freckles (Grace Kuhlenschmidt), Beatbox (Elsie Fisher) and Peanut (J.R Phillips) look fully realised and not simply bog standard CG on a screen.

The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that Universal is shifting some of its upcoming release calendar around. Christmas movies are a thing on their own. They tend to be heartwarming dramedies akin to slice-of-life movies that make us emotional but also offer us a sense of warmth and comfort. Centred around the year-end festival, these movies often speak about the spirit of togetherness and are drenched in a cosy, celebratory spirit of the festival. From Frank Capra’s ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ to Alexander Payne’s ‘The Holdovers’, we have seen the festival bringing people together, literally or emotionally. Tyler Taormina’s ‘Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point’ is the latest, charming addition to this list that uses its big ensemble to offer a time capsule to a a bygone era.
While Christmas is a cause for celebration, it may not be the same for everyone everywhere. Some may cherish getting together and sharing the same space with their families. For some, it can be pitch-perfect like...

Filmmaker Tyler Taormina quickly fell in love with IFC Films’ idea for how to market his merry-and-bright feature. The indie distributor’s trailer for “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point” plays as a full-on throwback to how holiday season comedies used to be advertised, complete with baby boomer doo-wop, a long list of grinning cast members and a warm narrator promising that, “It’s more than a holiday. It’s a gift for the whole family.” But the nostalgic packaging came with an unforeseen side effect.
“A lot of the people online are like, ‘Oh, I thought it was a horror movie.’ It was a very common reaction that was not at all thought of,” Taormina shares. “Earnest nostalgia is not able to be detected. The irony is expected. It bummed me out.”

At the end of Peter Godfrey’s “Christmas in Connecticut” — the greatest Christmas movie of all time (don’t fight me on this) — beloved character actor Sydney Greenstreet, having just emerged from a comedy kerfuffle of epic proportions, can think of nothing more to do than throw his mighty head in the air and declare “What a Christmas! Ho ho, what a Christmas!”
I could also think of little else to say, at first, about Tyler Taormina’s peculiar and lovely “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point.” What a Christmas indeed. The film is an eclectic hodgepodge of realism and dreamlike, dare I say Lynchian mannerisms. It’s set in the 2000s but it belts wall-to-wall mid-20th century pop hits, like a family-friendly cousin to Kenneth Anger’s “Scorpio Rising.” When Peggy March’s “Wind-Up Doll” drowns out the family playtime, you can half imagine the leathery biker tinkering in the garage.

It was the day after Halloween, and at The Grove in Los Angeles, Christmas decorations had already been rolled out and strung up. It was fitting for the interview I was about to have with filmmaker and musician Tyler Taormina, who was in between travels for his most recent work, “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point,” but rather than sit outside and enjoy the ambience, I asked if he’d like to head to Barnes & Noble for the first day of their annual November Criterion Collection sale. Seeing his eyes light up with excitement, I realized I had my answer.
Taormina and I were a few years apart at Emerson College in Boston, and though we’d never met, I found an unmistakable familiarity with him as we started to chat and look through Blu-rays and DVDs. Perhaps it resulted from being shaped at the same institution, or maybe...

I see Christmas Eve in Miller's Point as a combination of two storytelling instincts, the first of which is, unsurprisingly, the Christmas movie. This is one of those not just set around the holiday, but about it, and scenes of family togetherness (both fuzzy and prickly) resonate beyond their moment. The other, however, is the snapshot ensemble movie, in which the moment is everything. We're with these people for one night of their lives, and the point is just to be with them, share this experience, and find meaning wherever we decide to see it.

"This may be their last... Christmas Eve in Miller's Point. So it's time to make this one count." IFC Films has revealed the official trailer for an indie ensemble comedy non-narrative film called Christmas Eve in Miller's Point, a sort of vintage, nostalgic trip back in time to an awkward Christmas Eve. This premiered in the Directors' Fortnight sidebar at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival back in May, and opens in US theaters starting in November this fall. On Christmas Eve, a rambunctious extended family gathers for what could be the last holiday in their ancestral home. As the night wears on and generational tensions arise, one of the teens sneaks out with her friends to claim the wintry suburb for her own. The cast includes Michael Cera, Elsie Fisher, Maria Dizzia, Gregg Turkington, Matilda Fleming, Lev Cameron, Ben Shenkman, and Sawyer Spielberg. Yes it has a cast of famous youngsters,...

Andy Muschietti's mega-blockbuster adaptation of "It" kicked off a new boom of Stephen King adaptations when it hit theaters in 2017, but if we were in a boom, is it safe to say we've now hit a bust? There are still tons of new King adaptations coming (I'm excited to see Osgood Perkins' take on "The Monkey" and Bryan Fuller's horned-up "Christine" update), but the massive hits have slowed down (remember "Firestarter?"), and one major adaptation, Warner Bros' "'Salem's Lot," is only now coming out after years of sitting on the shelf.
The works of Stephen King will always continue to be rich and entertaining, whether they're dominating the pop cultural zeitgeist or not. But if one title exemplifies the fickleness of the recent King adaptation boom, it's "Castle Rock," a wonderfully complicated, delightfully mysterious King-adjacent series that unceremoniously died on the vine at Hulu despite delivering two great seasons of television.

The co-director of Despicable Me 4 has shared his thoughts on the franchise's future longevity. He compares the franchise to James Bond, saying bringing in new colorful villains helps keep the story going strong. He also says the franchise has many more stories left to tell because the characters are so relatable.
The co-director of Despicable Me 4 has discussed how the franchise can continue into the future. While the new animated sequel is the third follow-up to the original 2010 movie, it is the sixth feature-length installment in the franchise overall, including the two Minions spinoff prequel movies. The Despicable Me 4 cast includes returning voice actors Steve Carell as Gru, Kristen Wiig as Lucy, and Miranda Cosgrove as Margo alongside newcomers such as Will Ferrell as Maxime Le Mal, Joey King as Poppy Prescott, Sofa Vergara as Valentina, Stephen Colbert as Perry Prescott, and Chloe Fineman as Patsy Prescott.

A hilarious and unpredictable coming-of-age story in Florida explores income inequality and alienation through wacky characters and catchy tunes. Billy navigates bizarre encounters as a Grubster delivery worker, grappling with the fine line between dignity and a living wage. Unique animation and music bring to life Boys Go to Jupiter's surreal world of alien encounters, mutated fruits, and the absurdity of suburban Florida.
Art Sqool developer and 3D animator Julian Glander continues to be fabulously innovative in his bonkers feature film debut. Boys Go to Jupiter is a deadpan musical comedy that mocks ambling adolescence, delivery apps, and the entire state of Florida. Wacky characters break into catchy tunes to explain the highs and lows of a bored existence in the land of cheesy theme parks, mutated orange groves, and grumpy retirees. The (quite literally) out-of-this-world plot surprises with a thoughtful discourse on economic inequality. Glander sure says a lot with refreshing creativity.

Infatuation turns into a sinister obsession in the upcoming indie drama “Darkest Miriam.”
Based on Martha Baillie’s novel “The Incident Report,” the film follows loner librarian Miriam Gordon, played by “Severance” actress Britt Lower, whose new affair with a taxi driver (Tom Mercier) coincides with her receiving threatening letters from a secret admirer. Could her beau also be her nemesis?
The film, written and directed by Naomi Jaye, is set to have its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival in the Viewpoints Section on Sunday, June 9.
Acclaimed filmmaker Charlie Kaufman serves as an executive producer on the film, seemingly stamping it with his signature existentialism. Kaufman joined after reading author Baillie’s other book “Sister Language.” Canadian poet Eva H.D. approached Kaufman on behalf of the production.

What kind of Christmas movie do you get when your director’s inspirations are early-90s Nickelodeon live-action shows and 1960s European cinema? In Tyler Taormina’s case, the answer is Christmas Eve In Miller’s Point.
The movie sees four generations of the Balsano family get together for what, it transpires, may be their last annual Christmas party. With celebrations underway, two of the clan’s younger members sneak out in an act of teenage rebellion, which plays out against a backdrop of wintery and suburban Long Island.
The film is Taormina’s follow-up to the well-received indie pic Ham on Rye. He co-wrote the script with Eric Berger. Michael Cera is a producer and part of an ensemble cast that includes Elsie Fisher, Maria Dizzia, Francesca Scorsese, Ben Shenkman, Gregg Turkington, Sawyer Spielberg and newcomer Matilda Fleming.

Writing on Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island in 2010, Anthony Lane whipped a quote from Umberto Eco: “Two cliches make us laugh but a hundred clichés move us, because we sense dimly that the clichés are talking among themselves, celebrating a reunion.” Eco’s words resonate even stronger in Christmas Eve at Miller’s Point, a fascinating simulacrum of festive movies in which references to annual favorites are thrust together with about as much delicacy as the family it tenderly depicts. The island isn’t Shutter but Long, specifically a small town in Suffolk County where we meet four generations of the Bolsanos, a blue-collar family going through the motions and rituals of their annual get-together, adoring and enduring each other as best they can in what might be their last year in the family home. The filmmaker behind this delicate, strange, reflective bauble is Tyler Taormina, co-founder of the...

It’s the holidays, and strings of gaudy rainbow lights twinkle from gables. In cozy living rooms, the elders doze in their chairs while middle-aged siblings bicker and booze it up around the dining table. Little kids squirm in makeshift beds trying to stay awake for Santa, while truculent teenagers sneak out into the suburban night to do secret teenager things. Ok, so there are no chestnuts roasting on an open fire — instead there is a salad bowl full of red and green M&Ms — but in almost every other respect, Tyler Taormina’s delightful stocking-stuffer “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point” is as alive to the domesticated magic of the season as a classic carol. Taormina’s fondly multivalent, Millennial-Norman-Rockwell perspective incorporates a child’s experience of the holiday, overlaid with a teen’s and a parent’s and a grandparent’s and so on. It feels as though...

We’ve only just got Easter out of the way, and here comes the most immersive Christmas movie of the year, an abstract but very much controlled study based in and around a festive party thrown by a very large family from Long Island, New York. Despite the specificity of the setting, however, Tyler Taormina’s third feature film is a surprisingly relatable experience, part anthropological study, part nostalgia kick, lit up (literally) like a Christmas tree in a yuletide riot of red, white and green.
It begins in a car ferrying members of the Balsano family — mother and father, brother and sister — to the home of the family’s matriarch, where four generations of Balsanos have gathered for their annual get-together. This is about as much of a set-up as you’re going to get,...

Cannes isn’t Sundance. The movies on offer aren’t generally genre horror box office surprises or heartwarming indie dramedies, and sometimes they’re not even sure-fire Oscar hopefuls.
But as several sales agents and distributors told us, Cannes is slowly shifting back to being a home for discovery. With the audience now unbothered by subtitles, distributors aren’t just looking for the next “May December” but the next “Anatomy of a Fall.” And when it comes to the package titles on the Marché du Film, buyers are demanding more than the latest Nicolas Cage shark movie.
The sources IndieWire spoke to believe there’s more quality than quantity among this year’s official competition sales titles and the packages being shopped to distributors. And that’s a good thing, even though there are still plenty of hot packages trickling in by the day and buyers already scooping up competition...

This holiday season is one where the offspring of iconic Hollywood families come together, apparently.
“Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point,” which is set to debut in the Director’s Fortnight at Cannes, stars Francesca Scorsese and Sawyer Spielberg, two film stars in their own rite who hail from respective auteurs Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
Decade-plus indie staple Michael Cera leads the latest feature directed by Tyler Taormina; Cera also produces the ensemble family dramedy that marks Taormina’s follow-up to his 2019 coming-of-age comedy “Ham on Rye.”
Set during one Christmas Eve, a family gathers for what could be the last holiday in their ancestral home. Back in December, the folks at Spooky Pinball announced that they were making a very limited edition pinball machine inspired by Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. If you (like me) weren’t able to get one of those 888 machines, well, at least that wasn’t our only chance to play a Chainsaw pinball game. A while back, Zen Studios brought a horror-themed pinball game called Pinball M to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Pinball M includes pinball games inspired by the likes of John Carpenter’s The Thing, the Chucky franchise, Dead by Daylight, Duke Nukem, and Zen Studios’ Lovecraft-inspired Wrath of the Elder Gods Director’s Cut – and on June 6th, it will be adding a pinball game inspired by the 2022 film Texas Chainsaw Massacre!
