Since 2012, with its first theatrical release, A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, A24 has been hooking audiences with a distinct style emphasizing unbridled creativity. Many A24 films earn an R-rating, allowing filmmakers to push the boundaries with taboo subjects, steering away from the fear of studio interference if a film isn't seen as particularly palatable for general audiences.
With so many R-rated films, it's hard to narrow down the best of the best, as each A24 film is unique in presentation and structure, even if it's from the same director. From bone-chilling horror movies to gripping dramas, these R-rated A24 flicks exhibit true artistry and an extensive knowledge of the craft of filmmaking that's difficult to achieve.

A record 51 films will receive tax credits to shoot in California amid a historic downturn in production in the state fueled by an increasingly tit-for-tat incentives race to host Hollywood.
The total marks the highest number of titles selected in a single round of the state’s film and TV tax incentive program, according to the California Film Commission. The productions are estimated to employ 6,490 cast and crew, paying nearly $347 million in wages, and generate roughly $578 million in economic activity.
“While other states try to chase California’s on-screen success, everyone knows the Golden State is the entertainment capital of the world – built through decades of innovation and hard work,” said Gov. Gavin Newsom in a statement. “Today’s awards are vital to keeping production where it belongs – generating thousands of good-paying jobs ‘below the line,’ and supporting the local businesses that rely on a thriving film and television industry.

Besides the fact that it’s scheduled to come out on June 22, 2026, very little is known right now about The Daniels upcoming movie at Universal. One thing we do know now is that the next film from the Everything Everywhere All At Once Oscar winners and producer Jonathan Wang is getting almost $21 million in tax credits from the state of California.
Along with a RuPaul Untitled Drag Queen Movie, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s Untitled Daniels/Wang Project is among the 51 big screen projects that are the latest recipients of the Golden State’s incentives to promote filming in the home of Hollywood.
Handing out a total of around $114 million, the 51 projects are the largest awarded in any single round ever in the history of California’s TV and film incentives program.

Two cast members from “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” the Oscar-winning film by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, recently passed away – Waymond Lee, who died in December, and Biff Wiff, who died just last month. They played minor characters in the movie – Wiff is seen as one of the customers at Evelyn’s (Michelle Yeoh) laundromat and Lee pops up throughout “Everything Everywhere All At Once” – but their outsized personalities definitely made an impression and added to the lovely, intoxicating stew that was the movie.
Kwan and Scheinert wanted to remember and honor their collaborators, so they sent TheWrap their thoughts on the actors.

On Sunday night, “Anora” director Sean Baker made Academy Awards history by winning four Oscars in the same year for the same film, collecting gold statues for Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Editing.
How did Baker do what other legendary directors, whose films have won twice as many Oscars, could not? How unique is it that he wears so many hats? And is there anything to be gleaned from his four wins as the Oscars continue the trend of increasing the premium on auteur-driven filmmaking?
A director winning Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay is not unusual. If Baker didn’t win Best Original Screenplay category this year, another director would have: Brady Corbet (“The Brutalist”), Jesse Eisenberg (“A Real Pain”), Coralie Fargeat (“The Substance”), and Tim Fehlbaum (“September 5”).
A director winning Best Picture has also become common. Of the 10 nominated films for Best Picture this year,...

Steven Spielberg’s latest film, said to include UFOs, has been pushed back from May to June 2026. The Daniels’ next movie has also been shifted.
May of 2026 was beginning to look like a problem for at least one major film release, given that in the space of a month we were due to get a Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, a Steven Spielberg film, and Avengers: Doomsday. The average person only goes to the cinema two or three times a year, so asking them to go two or three times in a month was probably a tall order.
And make no mistake, lots of ‘average people’ are going to have to show up to make these movies work – especially the two Disney behemoths that will need to pull in big numbers to continue powering the gears of each respective franchise.

It’s time for a good old release date shakeup! Steven Spielberg‘s anticipated event film no longer opens in theaters on May 15, 2026. Instead, the lauded filmmaker’s mysterious new feature opens on June 12, 2026, taking over a spot previously reserved for Everything Everywhere All At Once Oscar-winning duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, also known as The Daniels.
According to The Daniels, their next movie is coming along nicely. Still, it needs more time in the oven, so let them cook. A new date for their latest project is forthcoming. In the meantime, cinephiles can look forward to learning more detail about the next outing from the filmmakers who brought us an Oscars dark horse and one of the most visually entrancing films of 2022.

Universal is shifting around the release dates for two major 2026 films, one from Steven Spielberg and another from “Everything Everywhere All at Once” directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.
Spielberg’s next film will open on June 12 instead of May 15. It’s taking the place of the Daniels’ untitled movie, which was taken off the calendar for now.
Universal didn’t offer a reason for the shifts, though the film from the Daniels, as the Oscar winners are known professionally, appeared to be in a nascent stage without a script, title or cast ever being announced. The studio is expected to imminently announce a new date for their movie.
Spielberg’s project, which also doesn’t have a title or logline but has been vividly described as a “new original event film,” was relocated to add distance from two expected behemoths. The untitled film was previously scheduled to open two...

Steven Spielberg’s next event movie with Universal will no longer go on May 15, 2026, rather open on Friday, June 12 next year, taking over a dating slot previously occupied by the Oscar-winning Daniels’ next untitled picture.
We hear that development of the Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert directed/written movie is coming along, it just needs more time. A new date will be announced in the near future in what is the duo’s highly anticipated follow-up to their multi-Oscar winning martial arts fantasia Everything Everywhere All at Once which minted north of $143M worldwide and resuscitated arthouse cinemas post pandemic.
Meanwhile, Spielberg’s next pic, which is under lock and key in regards to storyline, and rumored to be about UFOs, is in a better spot on the calendar, sharing the weekend with the reboot of Scary Movie on June 12 and in the wake of Amazon MGM Studios’ Masters of the Universe...

Steven Spielberg‘s next movie is moving its release date from May 15, 2026, to June 12, 2026, to provide more distance from Disney behemoths Avengers: Doomsday (May 1, 2026) and The Mandalorian and Grogu (May 22, 2026), Universal and Amblin Entertainment announced Tuesday.
The untitled film takes the date previously belonging to filmmakers Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), the duo behind the Oscar-winning indie sensation Everything Everywhere All at Once. Universal said that project is moving forward as planned, and that a new release date will be announced shortly.
The Daniels feature is the first stemming from a long-term pact the duo inked with Universal in the summer of 2022, months before they won for best picture, best director and best original screenplay at the Oscars, making them the hottest directing duo in the film business. Few details are known, though the studio is describing it as an “untitled event film,” suggesting a large scope for the project.

Alexa, play “Greatest Day,” because Anora had one on Saturday. The Neon film regained pole position in the Best Picture Oscar race after taking both the Directors Guild of America Award for Sean Baker and the Producers Guild of America Award. The latter wasn’t a big surprise in an ostensibly splintered Best Picture race, but the former was a huge one. The Brutalist‘s Brady Corbet was the overwhelming favorite in the odds (and was dethroned from No. 1 by Baker in the Oscar odds on Monday), and not a single expert or editor foresaw Baker’s DGA upset coming. So how did he win?

In a surprising win that resets the Oscar race, Anora director Sean Baker took home the Feature Film Director prize at Directors Guild of America Awards Saturday, instantly becoming the frontrunner for the Best Director trophy at the Academy Awards.
Baker, a first-time DGA nominee, toppled a strong field that included fellow Oscar nominees Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez), and James Mangold (A Complete Unknown), along with Conclave director Edward Berger, who failed to land an Oscar bid. The DGA victory came on the same night Baker’s film — which personally earned him four Academy Award bids — unexpectedly won the top prize at another major precursor, the Producers Guild of America Awards, and one night after the film scored at the Critics Choice Awards.
Corbet had still been considered the prohibitive favorite for both the DGA honor and directing Oscar going into Saturday.

Since the start of the millennium, there have been some especially strong Best Original Screenplay winners. It’s an especially eclectic list that ranges from Little Miss Sunshine (2007) to Juno (2008) to Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris (2012) to Spotlight (2016). The five most recent victors are Bong Joon-Ho and Han Jin-won for Parasite in 2020, Kenneth Branagh for Belfast in 2021, Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman in 2022, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for Everything Everywhere All at Once in 2023, and Arthur Harari and Justine Triet for Anatomy of a Fall last year.
This year’s group includes three writers also nominated for Best Director and whose movies also received Best Picture bids: Sean Baker for Anora, Brady Corbet (and partner Mona Fastvold) for The Brutalist, and Coralie Fargeat for The Substance. Several years before Everything Everywhere All at Once cleaned up at the Oscars, winning best picture and director, among numerous others, directors Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan (also known simply as the Daniels) made their feature length debut in 2016 with Swiss Army Man, and it's one of the best films you've likely never seen. And you can now check it out for free on Tubi. Starring Daniel Radcliffe, who became known for taking weirder roles in his post-Harry Potter years, the film centers on Hank, who is stranded on a desert island. Hopeless, Hank is about to hang himself when he notices a corpse, played by Radcliffe, washed up on the beach. He attempts to resuscitate the body, but finds it will only fart.
But then, something magical and utterly ludicrous happens: the corpse's flatulence propels it on the surface of the water like a jet ski, allowing Hank to...

All five Academy Award nominees for Best Director on Thursday — Brady Corbet for The Brutalist, Sean Baker for Anora, Jacques Audiard for Emilia Pérez, James Mangold for A Complete Unknown, and Coralie Fargeat for The Substance — are first-timers in the category.
The last time the Best Directors list was all first-timers was 1998, when James Cameron (Titanic), Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty), Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting), Curtis Hanson (L.A. Cole Webley, a Salt Lake City-based director, spent decades dreaming of premiering one of his films in Park City. The Utah native has attended the Sundance Film Festival for nearly 20 years, waiting in long lines as the snow fell around him, shivering in the cold in hopes of catching a hot new movie. He’d also tried and failed to get five of his short films into competition.
“To say that I had an affinity towards the festival would be an understatement,” Webley says. “It’s been the pinnacle of what I had hoped to achieve.”

A24’s latest high concept horror film has the grandiose title of Opus, and the trailer has landed. Take a look here.
Film studio A24 has proved itself to be a frontrunner in bold, original, risk taking storytelling, usually with small budgets and tidy profits. From distributing daring titles like Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, Alex Garland’s directorial debut Ex Machina and Robert Eggers’ The Witch, it soon moved into producing. Examples? The Safdie Brothers’ anxiety inducing Uncut Gems, Ari Aster’s Hereditary and Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s Oscar winning Everything Everywhere All At Once. A24 has become quite the stamp.
Its next release is the thriller Opus. And the synopsis for it reads as follows…
A young writer is invited to the remote compound of a legendary pop star who mysteriously disappeared 30 years ago. Surrounded by the star’s cult of sycophants and intoxicated journalists, she...

Jon Watts On Skeleton Crew Finale Spoilers And Spider-man: No Way Home Easter Egg Nobody Has Spotted

The season finale of Skeleton Crew debuted on Disney+ last Tuesday, and showrunners Jon Watts and Christopher Ford have now weighed-in on some of the episode's biggest moments, as well as the possibility of the main characters returning for a second season.
Spoilers follow.
Towards the end of "The Real Good Guys," Wim, Fern, Kb and Neel manage to get a message to Kh'ymm, who sends the New Republic to protect At Attin from the pirate invasion. Realizing that he's beaten, Jod Na Nawood decides to throw down his blaster and face his fate (though his slight change of expression does suggest that he might have an escape plan).
Though Jod doesn't harm the kids when he clearly has every opportunity to do so, he wasn't given the full redemption arc many expected.
"We played it up because I think that he truly did come to like [the kids], but then he pushes them away,...

Yasmine Al Massri, a Palestinian-born actress who has appeared in the likes of Caramel, Quantico and The Strangers' Case, has revealed that she filmed at least one scene for the recent season finale of Skeleton Crew, but her character didn't make the cut.
If you've seen the episode you'll likely know who she would have played, but just in case, here's your spoiler warning.
It seems Al Massri was set to appear as the unnamed Jedi that takes a young Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law) under her wing shortly after the events of the Order 66 Purge detailed in Revenge of the Sith.
In "The Real Good Guys," Jod reveals his backstory to Wim, explaining that he was a starving and destitute child until a Jedi found him. She saw potential in Jod and began to teach him the ways of the Force, but was ultimately tracked down (presumably by The...

The film industry is fickle. When factors like mainstream appeal and tactical marketing determine a movie's success, it is almost impossible to ensure triumph even with a winning idea. Despite making brilliant films for their entire career, some great directors are never heard of. On the other hand, some directors make masterpieces for their first films and become permanently famous. It is an unpredictable industry, and any filmmaker practically gambles when they pour their heart and soul into a project.
Christopher Nolan, widely considered as one of the all-time greats, had to wait years until 2024 for his first Academy Award for Best Directing, and many great modern filmmakers still await their Best Director Oscar. It often takes time to find any recognition, and the lack of positive responses to earlier projects is particularly disheartening. However, as some famous filmmaking careers prove, directors often have to keep making good films that are slept on,...

While it is safe to say that the film industry has survived to 2025, one of the greatest casualties of the Hollywood strikes of 2023 has been the entertainment industry’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. The continued push into Hollywood consolidation inevitably leads to debt, which leads to developmental programs and jobs being cut. Warner Bros. Discovery and the Paramount/Skybound merger are only the most recent examples of this.
But one could argue there is also a growing sentiment that media CEOs are simply no longer interested or invested in putting more effort into diversity. Consider it a backlash to the backlashes of 2016 and 2020, the very ones that focused on pushing Hollywood to empower more filmmakers who are women and/or people of color. While the most recent USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative study does not quite show a decline in inclusion, it does reveal that the progress in finding, elevating,...

This week's penultimate episode of the latest Disney+ Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, is now streaming, and the closing credits reveal which actor has been cast as the show's most mysterious character.
There be spoilers ahead!
At Attin's "Supervisor" has been mentioned on a number of occasions, and we finally heard his voice over the intercom in "We're Gonna Be in So Much Trouble" when Wim, Neel, Fern and Kb returned to their home planet as Jod Na Nawood's prisoners.
You may have thought the upbeat, jolly (likely disarmingly so) voice sounded familiar, and the episode's end credits revealed that legendary British actor/comedian Stephen Fry has been cast in the role.
Fans have been speculating about the true identity of the Supervisor over the past few weeks, and while there are a few compelling possibilities, we'd be very surprised if he didn't turn out to be Tak Rennod, the...

Episode 7 of Skeleton Crew is now streaming on Disney+, and the stakes have definitely been raised for our prepubescent protagonists, who start to realize just how much danger they're in when they reunite with an old "friend."
There be major spoilers ahead.
"We're Gonna Be in So Much Trouble" begins with the kids' parents sending a transmitter into space with a message explaining how the crew can pass through At Attin's barrier, and that they need the help of a Republic Emissary to gain access.
Wim, Fern, Neel and Kb manage to escape from the pirates with Sm-33's help and set a course for home on the Onyx Cinder, but Jod, aka Captain Silva, aka Crimson Jack, stows away after first dispatching the mutinous Brutus and convincing the remaining members of his former crew to rejoin him so they can set about plundering the planet.

Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni is set to helm a highly anticipated yet untitled Star Wars film that aims to bring together the storylines of various Disney+ shows. This film is rumored to serve as a culmination of the interconnected narratives seen in The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and possibly other series within the same timeline. While official updates on the project have been scarce, new rumors suggest that Skeleton Crew might play a significant role in the cinematic crossover.
Via ComicBookMovie and scooper Daniel Richtman, characters from Skeleton Crew, the latest Disney+ Star Wars series, will appear in Filoni’s movie. If true, this expands the scope of the crossover, weaving yet another thread into the sprawling galaxy far, far away.
However, it’s still unclear which Skeleton Crew characters will make the hyperspace jump to the big screen. The series centers on four kids — Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Kb (Kyriana Kratter...

In the 97 years that the Academy Awards have been going, certain genres have always remained the underdogs, regardless of how general audiences may feel about them at any given time in history. When it comes to science-fiction, for example, only two entrants in the genre have actually walked away with the Best Picture Oscar, and both are more recent than you might expect. In point of fact, there hadn't been a single Best Picture-winning sci-fi film at all until Guillermo del Toro's sci-fi horror romance "The Shape of Water" came up for air in 2017. Nevertheless, del Toro's story of a woman (Sally Hawkins) falling for a merman (Doug Jones) managed to check all the required boxes at the time, winning Best Picture over the likes of "Call Me By Your Name," "Get Out," "Dunkirk," "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri," "Darkest Hour," "The Post," "Lady Bird," and "Phantom Thread."

Though it's been a while since we had an official update on the project, Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni is still set to helm an untitled Star Wars movie that will serve as a culmination of the various Disney+ shows, and it sounds like the mysterious film will be assembling more than just characters from The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, characters from the current Disney+ Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, will also appear.
We'll have to wait until the season finale to find out who will even be left standing to make the hyperspace jump to the big screen. We assume the four kids are safe, but Jude Law's Jod Na Nawood (or whichever name he's going by today) might not be so lucky.
If you're not up-to-date with the show, beware of spoilers from this point on.

In this week's episode of Skeleton Crew, we pick up with Fern, Wim, Neel, and Kb following Jod's shocking betrayal. While Fern and Neel decide to try and reach the group's ship, Kb and Wim choose to follow some skittering trash crabs.
That leads them to a giant trash crab called Tet'Niss, "the Mama Crab." An edge-of-your-seat encounter follows while Jod wins over his old crew with the promise of leading them to At Attin's endless treasure.
In a newly released video, we see many of the Easter Eggs included on the back of Tet'Niss. There's an R2-D2, C-3Po, K-2So, and even nods to ships like the Millennium Falcon and Hondo Ohnaka's ship, the Katooni.
Talking to StarWars.com, Tippett Studios art director and fabrication supervisor Mark Dubeau explained, "If you look closely at the junk on his back, it's not just random parts. There's pieces of the Millennium Falcon in there.

Skeleton Crew episode 5 is the best installment yet thanks to a solid twist, some dark elements, and the forward propulsion of its pirate-based plot. Skeleton Crew episode 5's Easter eggs were aplenty as the children and Jod Na Nawood traveled to the planet of Lanupa. As Skeleton Crew's cast of characters searched for the hidden vault of pirate captain Tak Rennod, they moved closer to finding the hidden location of At Attin.
Set in the Star Wars universe, Skeleton Crew follows four young adventurers as they become lost in the galaxy while searching for their home planet. This week’s episode of Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” is notable for a few reasons – one, it is dark and scary, adding in some creepier layers to the otherwise cheerful tone of the latest live-action Lucasfilm joint. There’s a lot of Neel (Robert Timothy Smith), the adorable blue alien. And one of the main characters has a dramatic change of heart.
But the most notable distinction of this week’s episode was that it was directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert aka the Daniels, the filmmaking team that won the Best Director and Best Picture Oscar for “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” This is, in fact, their first directorial effort since their multiverse comedy swept the Oscars.
And the Daniels directing an episode of “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” isn’t an outlier either. The first season of the ambitious new series, which channels 1980s nostalgia through...

The fourth episode of Skeleton Crew, “Can’t say I remember no At Attin,” is now streaming on Disney+, and it thrusts our young heroes and their somewhat shady new companion into the middle of a war between two rival factions on a planet that looks a lot like At Attin... after a nuclear apocalypse.

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, who are alternatively known as the directing pair "Daniels," earned their gold Best Picture Oscar statuettes for 2022's critically acclaimed science-fiction masterpiece "Everything Everywhere All At Once" (read /Film's review for more on that). In the realm of feature filmmaking, they also delivered laughs in the bizarre, offbeat 2016 film "Swiss Army Man," which stars Daniel Radcliffe as a flatulent corpse that Paul Dano is able to ride to safety like a jet ski.
To say that Daniels think differently than most directors is an understatement. Skeleton Crew has been warmly received by critics and audiences alike so far. Could the series be exactly what Star Wars needs right now? A few thoughts:
Let’s address the elephant in the galaxy: Star Wars has kind of lost its way and the franchise has been in steep decline ever since The Force Awakens or The Last Jedi, depending where you land on grumpy Luke.
The last couple of years have been particularly bumpy for the galaxy far, far away. Of the seven live action Star Wars shows released in the last five years, only Andor and The Mandalorian seem to have stuck around and made some kind of an impact. Andor season 2 is on the horizon in 2025 and Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin is set to return on the big screen in The Mandalorian and Grogu, which recently wrapped filming.

The best films of all time set out to accomplish a wide variety of goals. They may be designed to instill fear, increase adrenaline, or cause sorrow. As such, these characteristics usually run parallel to whatever genre they're a part of, whether it be horror, drama, or high-octane action. Yet when it comes to feel-good movies, the categorization seems to be much more fluid. People tend to loosely slap the term onto different cinematic works, but in their most basic form, these projects are meant to make the viewer happy.
This style of entertainment isn't a new concept in Hollywood but has demonstrated a particularly strong presence in recent years. We already had a pretty good idea that Jude Law's Jod Na Nawood wasn't who he claimed to be, but this week's third episode of Skeleton Crew revealed that the duplicitous Force-user is actually known by several different names.
Spoilers follow.
In "Very Interesting, as an Astrogration Problem," our young heroes convince Nawood to return to Port Borgo to rescue Sm-33, which is when we get confirmation that he is indeed Captain Silva from the premiere's opening scene.
Later, Nawood takes the kids to see an old friend of his named Kh'ymm (voiced by Alia Shawkat), who he says is an expert on reading star maps and will be able to help them find their way back to At Attin. Kh'ymm refers to Jod as Crimson Jack, a character introduced in the first issue of a comic book miniseries called Star Wars: Halcyon Legacy, released back in 2022.

Episode 3 of Lucasfilm's latest live-action Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, featured a pretty big reveal relating to Jude Law's mysterious Jod Na Nawood (more here), as well as a cameo that seemed to fly under the radar for anyone who wasn't paying attention to the closing credits.
In "Very Interesting, as an Astrogration Problem," Jude Law's mysterious "Jedi" is convinced to return to Port Borgo to rescue Sm-33 from the pirates, when he bumps into one of his old crewmates named Benjar Pranic. The two are on good terms, but Pranic gets suspicious when he notices Nawood with the droid and threatens to inform his new captain, insinuating that he'll keep his mouth shut if Jod makes it worth his while.
We don't see how Nawood gets out of this situation (it's entirely possible that he killed or at least incapacitated the alien), but whatever he did clearly raised the alarm,...

Episode 3 of Skeleton Crew is now streaming on Disney+, and the latest instalment in Lucasfilm's critically-acclaimed Star Wars series features a pretty big reveal relating to Jude Law's mysterious "Jedi" Jod Na Nawood.

A droid arrives and tells them that the planet's mysterious Supervisor has forbidden them from contacting the Republic (they don't say "New") to ask for help because venturing beyond "the barrier" is not allowed (there's definitely something odd about this planet).
We then return to the kids on Port Borgo as they form a shaky alliance with Nawood, who, whether he's really a Jedi for not (we're leaning towards the latter), can clearly use the Force. The crew make their escape, but Nawood is convinced to return for Sm-33, which is when we...

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is the latest addition to the small-screen, Disney Plus streaming version of the Galaxy Far, Far Away that we all know and love. Starring Jude Law, the series, which comes from Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts, aspires to be a throwback to the kind of movies Amblin Entertainment put out in the eighties. It’s led by a young cast of kids, with it very much in the mould of The Goonies, albeit in space. So far, it’s collected far better reviews from both critics and fans than many other, more divisive Star Wars projects have in recent years (read our review here).
Recently, we were invited to take part in the Skeleton Crew press day in NYC, and our interviewer, Eric Walkuski was able to speak to two of the stars, Kyriana Kratter & Robert Timothy Smith. Kyriana Kratter plays Kb, who sports...

Jod Na Nawood might be older than Star Wars: Skeleton Crew's kids, but they all share a certain level of immaturity.
Speaking to USA Today about Skeleton Crew and his upcoming role in The Order, Jude Law teased a bit more about his mysterious Force-wielder and how that impacts Nawood's relationship with the young Skeleton Crew cast. "He's having to survive in a very messy universe, but it's all about him," Law said, adding, "I loved the selfishness, and I loved also that in a way, in being a survivor, he's almost like a child. And yet he hasn't had a childhood, so he kind of looks at these kids and they're just little people. It's like, 'Why don't they get it? They seem spoiled. Just get on with it and fly the ship and fight that guy.' I quite like that rough love."

Michelle Yeoh has been involved in two of the biggest Asian success stories at the Oscars in the last 25 years – Ang Lee’s legendary title Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which won four Oscars in 2001, and Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, which won seven in 2023, including a Best Actress award for Yeoh. But the prolific Malaysian-born actress said that these success stories are few and far between and encouraged gatekeepers of the entertainment industry to get better at promoting equal opportunities for storytellers.
“I think it’s crucial for the involvement of our industry to create more opportunities – equal opportunities – for storytellers to be able to tell their own stories in their own ways,” she said during a wide-ranging conversation at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia on Friday.

Malaysian-born actress Michelle Yeoh has made a passionate appeal to film industry gatekeepers, saying “Let us in!”
Speaking in an in-conversation event at Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival, Yeoh said, “Open the gates and let us in! As storytellers, as filmmakers, especially as women, what we’re saying is just give us equal opportunities, let us prove ourselves. If we can’t have a seat at the table because we’re not capable, that’s one thing; but we’re not even given a seat at the table, we’re not even given the opportunity to try,...
