Markoesa Hamer studied acting in London at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and in Amsterdam at the Academy of Dramatic Arts & Music Theatre.
Since 2007 she has been working as an actor in film, TV and theatre productions. She starred in feature films such as Torch Song (2024) and Moloch (2022), plays the role of Marlene in the German Netflix original series How To Sell Drugs Online (Fast) (2019-2021) and Fleur in the Dutch series Koppensellers (Headhunters) (2020). In the UK, she appeared in the BBC series Holby City (2014), and starred in the short film A Beautiful Death (2012). Markoesa starred in prizewinning movies including Den Helder (Golden Calf 2008 for Best TV Film) and Aanmodderfakker (Golden Calf 2014 for Best Film). She won Best Actress for her role in the short film Nesting Therapy (2019) at the International Short Film Festival Middelburg and Best Actress for her role in the short film Hou Vast (Hold On) (2018) at the Zuidelijk Film Festival. She was a regular in the popular Dutch TV series Dokter Deen (2012-2018) and the Comedy Central sketch show Popoz (2013-2014) and Popoz the Film (2015).
Markoesa was born in the Netherlands to Judith Hamer, a Dutch-Surinamese Modern Dancer with whom she grew up mostly in Amsterdam and Sindney, Australia. Her father Jim Ennis, an Irish theatre director/actor lived in Cardiff Wales, whom she visited regularly. She has a half sister, Ciara, who is a journalist and lives in Cardiff Wales, and a half brother, Finn, who is a guitarist and lives in Manchester UK. Markoesa became a mother in 2015, she has a daughter and a son with Dutch actor Marijn Klaver.
