High above the earth in a circular space prison, two cell mates find their relationship challenged when their respective home nations begin a warring conflict. Filmmaker Kevin Staake’s sci-fi drama Noah’s Belt is an intriguing work for two key reasons. Firstly, through the ongoing prescience of its premise which explores how patriotism can create friction within seemingly friendly relationships, and secondly, through the technical means in which it was animated using the Unreal Engine. It’s also a work grounded in performance with actors Nikolai Nikolaeff and Aidan Bristow, whose credits range from Call of Duty to Halo, bringing the highly conceptual nature of the story together with a back-and-forth dynamic that turns and evolves in a riveting manner. Joining Dn for a conversation as Noah’s Belt arrives online, Staake outlines the initial creation of his politically charged story, the organic flow of ideas he encourages during performance capture,...

Fragmented narratives with an unreliable narrator at their heart can make for an interesting puzzle box for viewers but in the case of Shan Serafin's latest, it results in a scattered set-up making it hard to know even where to begin piecing things together let alone bring things together satisfactorily at the end.
But let's start with the basics, which are nice and tight for a low budget - with most of the action taking place within the walls of the home owned by Lucas (Aidan Bristow) and Violet (Sophie Kargman), a young married couple whose relationship is already on the rocks when we meet them. "I don't like all this back and forth," one of them says as they exchange verbal blows over dinner - a sentiment with which the viewer is likely to sympathise as the conversation is not only off-kilter but also so removed from any sort of 'normal' discourse that.

Recently, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Bristow about his involvement in The Believer and he discussed his longtime working relationship with Serafin, how he juggled his responsibilities on the film both onscreen and off, his experiences collaborating with his co-stars, and more.

Language is the primary component in how we express emotions, how we explain the world to others and ourselves. The films of legendary documentary filmmaker Errol Morris looked towards an understanding of the complicated balance between what and how people express themselves through language. And Morris, whose innovation behind the camera is notable in every single film, positions his subjects in intimidating yet vulnerable positions, many times looking straight into the camera lens, almost talking to the viewer.

Veteran Oscar nominated actress Sally Kirkland (Anna) stars in Broken Roads, an affecting family drama that suffers from over-indulgence on the part of its feature debuting director/writer Justin Chambers. What might have made a strong Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation has here been unaccountably stretched out to a punishing two-and-a-half hour length. That the actors shout a good portion of the dialogue only adds to the overwrought atmosphere. The story begins with 17-year-old Aldo (Aidan Bristow) suffering a car crash that kills his mother. The grief-stricken teen is thus forced to move to
