Taron Egerton plays a blackmailed Tsa agent who receives special instructions from an unknown passenger in the new Carry-On trailer; the film premieres Dec. 13 via Netflix. “You got 10 minutes before everyone in this airport dies,” the unknown passenger, played by Jason Bateman, says. “All you have to do is nothing.”
The trailer, released Wednesday, features an explosive car crash, shoot-outs, and a carry-on bag with an undisclosed weapon. Carry-On follows novice Tsa agent Ethan who attempts to stop the unknown traveler from letting the deadly package onto a Christmas Eve flight.

Jason Bateman has gone real no-more-Mr. Nice Guy on us.
The “Ozark,” “Horrible Bosses,” and “Game Night” star puts on a domestic-terrorist face (and hat) in the teaser for Netflix Christmas movie “Carry-On.” It’s, ah, not exactly “Elf.”
In “Carry-On,” before Bateman can terrorize a Christmas Eve flight, he first must make Taron Egerton’s job a living hell. Oh, and he might just kill the young Tsa agent’s significant other, played by Sofia Carson, as well.
“One bag for one life,” is Bateman’s blackmail offer.
We’re guessing he doesn’t have Clear.
Basically, Bateman targets Egerton to let his mysterious suitcase through the security scanners and onto the airplane. We don’t quite know (yet) what is in the package, but considering the gunfire and Tom Cruise-esque sprinting through the airport, Bateman’s cargo is probably a bit worse than nail clippers.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Except for one particular Tsa agent. Netflix has just released the trailer for Carry On. Carry On is an upcoming feature film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise, Black Adam) and starring Taron Egerton (Rocketman, Kingsman: The Golden Circle). Tj Fixman wrote the script’s first draft, with Michael Green responsible for the most recent polish. Dylan Clark (The Batman) is producing. Carry On is the first production of the overall deal between Netflix and Amblin.
The film also stars Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, Logan Marshall-Green, Dean Norris, Sinqua Walls and Jason Bateman. The cast will also include Gil Perez- Abraham, Tonatiuh, Curtiss Cook, Joe Williamson and Josh Brener. In 2008, director Jason Reitman lived his “SNL” dream.
He was fresh off the success of “Juno,” which earned Reitman a Best Director Oscar nomination and the film a Best Picture nomination. His agent reached out to Lorne Michaels and relayed Reitman’s wish — to do a guest writing stint on “Saturday Night Live.” And, incredibly, it happened.
“It was like getting to suit up for the Los Angeles Lakers for one night,” Reitman told TheWrap. He and “SNL” writer Simon Rich stayed up until four in the morning on a Tuesday night working on ideas. On Wednesday, they took their three sketch ideas to the table read. “And then later that afternoon I got to be there for the moment when they come out of Lorne’s office and pinned a piece of paper to the wall,” Reitman said. That’s when he found out that one of his sketches...

Rachel Sennott didn’t get into the premier sketch comedy group during her tenure at NYU. Now she’s playing one of the architects of the world’s most famous sketch comedy show in Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night. Co-written by the latter and Gil Kenan, the biographical comedy-drama chronicles the messy 90-minute period before the first episode of Saturday Night Live on Oct. 11, 1975. Sennott portrays writer Rosie Shuster, who’s also the first wife of SNL creator Lorne Michaels (Gabriel Labelle). And much like their ambitious attempt to shake up NBC’s Saturday night programming, their marriage, as depicted in the film, is in a similarly fragile, yet oddly collaborative, state.
In contrast with a lot of her castmates, Sennott didn’t have a great deal of existing material to reference during prep, but she did have the ultimate resource one phone call away.
“I spoke to Rosie, which was amazing.

Saturday Night Live has long been known for its stars’ impressions of everyone from current politicians like Kamala Harris to historical figures like Vincent Price. Saturday Night, the movie set in the moments before its series premiere, isn’t aiming for verisimilitude on that level: the actors might be playing real-life people, but they’re also creating characters. The object isn’t an SNL, or even MADtv-level impersonation, and the performances shouldn’t really be judged on that basis.
So consider the ranking below — focused solely on the actors playing the show’s original seven cast members, known as the Not Ready for Primetime Players — purely a novelty, and don’t use it to fill out your ballot when it’s time to vote for the Oscars.
Warning: Contains moderate spoilers for Saturday Night.

For his latest nonfiction role, Gabriel Labelle had a rare peek inside his character’s world.
The Saturday Night star recently recalled his visit to 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where he saw a Saturday Night Live taping and met creator Lorne Michaels while portraying him in the film, which premieres nationwide on Oct. 11 following a limited release.
“Our first two days of shooting were in New York, just to shoot outside of 30 Rock, and Lorne was super cool and invited us to watch the Josh Brolin episode live,” he told IndieWire. “And so a handful of us, those who live in New York and then those who were just in New York to shoot regardless, we were able to go and check it out. It was really great.
“Lorne was there, and I actually got to speak with him briefly after the show. We didn’t say too much to each other.

There’s no question that Steven Soderbergh knows a thing or two about heist movies, given that he directed all three of the Ocean’s Eleven movies. That’s presumably why “Steven Soderbergh Presents” appears on an enormous title card before Cold Wallet, a modern-day heist thriller directed by Cutter Hodierne, like a big flashy endorsement. Whatever happened to the ABC talk show host Murray from The Last of Us? Did he get a fungal infection that turned him into a zombie? Granted, he was a character well before the timeline of the show, but still, ya know, flashbacks. Plus, Murray was played by Silicon Valley star Josh Brener.
In an early episode of The Last of Us, Murray jokes about Dr. Neuman’s claims that a fungus could wipe out mankind. Dr. Neuman emphasized there would be a loss of control by mankind. Murray then in hysterical fashion after listening solemnly, called for a commercial break.
We asked Brener if he was being brought back for Last of Us at our SXSW studio; the actor in Austin, TX for the world premiere of the crypto currency feature thriller, Cold Wallet.

In the high-stakes world of digital currency, Cold Wallet takes us on a comedic heist journey that tries to mine more laughs than crypto, but occasionally finds itself lost in the blockchain of its own storyline. The semi-true tale spins a narrative around Billy (Raul Castillo), a father whose financial downfall leads him to hatch a plot alongside hacker extraordinaire Eva (Melonie Diaz) and good-vibes-only martial arts instructor Dom (Tony Cavalero), to crack into the cold wallet of supposedly deceased crypto CEO, Charles Hegel (Josh Brener). Their plan? Kidnap Hegel, force him to give up his trillion-dollar cold wallet, and redistribute that wealth like modern-day Robin Hoods to everyone he swindled with his “Tulip” coin.
Crypto (from an outside observer) looks overly complicated and managing a “Cold Wallet” seems about as easy as acquiring codes to launch nuclear weapons. The Cold Wallets requires several passcode or key phrases to access...

It’s great to see the always terrific Raúl Castillo in a lead role, bringing both despair and tenacious grit to a luckless blue-collar father whose dreams of liquidity are shattered by a cryptocurrency scam. Cutter Hodierne’s thriller about three financial crime victims who go after the man responsible, Cold Wallet, doesn’t always make the tech talk crackle or exactly nail the tone he appears to be going for, of home invasion tension streaked with dark humor. But solid performances and a pulpy scenario that keeps you guessing make this a suspenseful watch.
While it’s clear that director Hodierne and screenwriter John Hibey know the crypto world, your mileage may vary depending on familiarity with meme stocks and doxing, securities fraud and blockchain. I confess it’s all Greek to me. Films like Dumb Money took a more playful route to the little-guy investor bucking against capitalist chicanery,...

Since that debut we’ve had ten films – this latest one, Sniper: G.R.I.T. included – all of which have adapted with the times yet have still managed to find a consistency that has kept audiences coming back time and again. It also helps that, since 2011’s fourth film Sniper: Reloaded, we’ve had a consistent lead in actor Chad Michael Collins, playing Brandon Beckett the son of Tom Berenger’s original lead Gunnery Sergeant Tom Beckett.

This sense of protectiveness over the source material makes me feel silly, but I know I'm far from alone in this. In fact,...
