Nick Frost steps into uncharted territory with his recent role, transforming from his signature comedic charm to a deeply unsettling presence in Black Cab, a psychological horror arriving on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital on 7 April 2025. The Shudder Original, directed by Bruce Goodison, delivers a relentless ride into terror, blending abduction horror with ghostly apparitions and psychological torment.
Frost, best known for his work in Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Attack the Block, plays Ian, a seemingly unassuming cab driver with a sinister agenda. Alongside him, Synnøve Karlsen delivers a gripping performance as Anne, a woman trapped in a nightmare, while Luke Norris (Poldark) plays her controlling fiancé, whose presence only adds to the mounting tension.

Halloween may be over, but scary movies never go away. The latest chiller coming to streaming service Shudder is the unique ghost story Black Cab. Starring Shaun of the Dead‘s Nick Frost and directed by Bruce Goodison, Black Cab is an unconventional horror movie that harkens back to the supernatural chills of classic frights while also forging a unique story about the unknown. Boasting an original premise and a rate dramatic turn from Nick Frost, Black Cab is worth checking out.
Black Cab follows Anne (Synnøve Karlsen) and Patrick (Luke Norris) as they depart a party with their friends. With a rift between them, they chat up the odd driver of their car (Nick Frost). As the tensions begin to mount in the vehicle, Anne realizes this may not be the ride she expected. Things take a turn involving murder, ghosts, and something far more sinister. You probably think...

The challenge of setting your movie inside a vehicle is inherently … nifty? Attention-grabby? Crazy enough to work? Bruce Goodison's Black Cab takes a swing at horror storytelling from a cabbie's backseat, with Cornetto trilogy favorite and accomplished actor Nick Frost at the wheel. Imagine this year's yellow cab confessional Daddio pit against supernatural snippets that recall 2003's Dead End, but it's a bumpy ride. Virginia Gilbert's story strives for the best of true crime thriller and haunted legend worlds, only to fumble both as scenes bounce off one another like bumper cars.
Frost's chatty driver (Ian) is one point in a triangle of lead performances. Synnove Karlsen stars as Anne and Luke Norris as her douchey boyfriend-slash-hopeful-fiancé, Patrick. After a public dinner with friends, where Patrick announces their (surprise) engagement, Anne visibly retreats before calling a cab. Anne and Patrick's tumultuous relationship hasn't stabilized, as evidenced by...

The movie Black Cab is a scary psychological thriller that turns a normal cab ride into a scary trip through supernatural lands. This 87-minute film, which you can stream on Shudder, is a ride where reality and ghostly interference are hard to tell apart.
The story is about Anne, a young woman who doesn’t want to get back together with her troublesome partner Patrick. They have a weird dinner to start the night, quickly becoming a much scarier journey. When they call Ian, the cab driver (played by Nick Frost), what seems like a normal ride turns into a terrifying experience that makes them question what is safe and what is real.
Nick Frost, who is mostly known for comedic roles, really goes out of his comfort zone when he plays Ian, a charming and very scary cab driver. His character changes from a happy, singing driver to a...

Next week we’ll start getting serious awards contenders on streaming when “Emilia Perez” debuts on Netflix. This week, though, it’s a light week. Which is not to say our top pick, coming-of-age comedy “My Old Ass,” isn’t worth watching on Prime Video, because it is — and the film’s young star Maisy Stella received a breakthrough award nomination from the Gotham Awards earlier this month.
Stella stars as Elliott, an 18-year-old who, during a mushroom trip, meets her 39-year-old self, played by Aubrey Plaza. Armed with her older self’s advice — and her phone number, so she can text her follow-up questions — Elliott navigates the excitement and heartbreak of the summer before college. It’s the kind of quirky indie comedy Sundance used to produce in droves. It’s now streaming on Prime Video.

Kidnapped by their deceptively jovial cab driver (Nick Frost) with a deadly detour in mind, a strained couple (Synnove Karlsen and Luke Norris) are forced to face their dysfunctional relationship while striving to survive the wrath of their captor—and an unsettling paranormal presence—in Black Cab.
With the new supernatural thriller now streaming on Shudder, Daily Dead had the pleasure of talking with star Nick Frost (who also wrote additional material for the film) and director Bruce Goodison about Black Cab, including exploring the compelling complexity of Nick Frost's character, infusing their ghost story with realism, and setting most of the movie within the claustrophobic confines of a cab.
Synopsis: "When Anne (Synnøve Karlsen) and Patrick (Luke Norris) hail a black cab after a night out their driver (Nick Frost) is chatty, jovial even, but they are in no mood to talk. In fact, the couple is barely on speaking terms.

Nick Frost is out of control in Black Cab. The beloved Shaun of the Dead star plays a manic cabbie in Shudders new psychological thriller, giving costars Synnve Karlsen (Last Night in Soho) and Luke Norris (Poldark) a haunting nighttime ride they'll never forget. Frost, who, along with pal Simon Pegg, rounded out their Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy with 2007s Hot Fuzz and 2013s The World's End, lent his writing talents to Black Cab, alongside writers David Michael Emerson and Virginia Gilbert. And its Frosts writing process that truly piqued our interest.
I get up early, get the kids to school and what I do is essentially put horror films on all day, back to back, and they're just there in the background while I'm working, Frost told MovieWeb in a recent interview promoting Black Cab. Sometimes, I don't watch any of it. He added:

Plot: When Anne and Patrick hail a black cab after a night out their driver is chatty, jovial even, but they are in no mood to talk. In fact, the couple is barely on speaking terms. That is, until they realize the driver has no intention of taking them home. Locked in the cab with no means of escape, the driver transports the couple to a stretch of deserted and supposedly haunted road. But what is his purpose? Is he mad or just plain evil? And why has he selected Anne and Patrick as his victims?
Review: Most of us have had a less-than-enjoyable ride in a cab or an Uber. At least with rideshares, you can tell if the driver has been a creep or not, while a taxi is a complete crapshoot. Jumping into a cab, we generally trust that we are safe, but everyone knows someone who...

After often showcasing his skills in the world of comedy, Nick Frost is tapping into a new side of performing with Black Cab. Frost is best known for his work co-leading the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy with Simon Pegg, while also finding success with everything from 2011's Attack the Block to his and Pegg's sci-fi comedy Paul, AMC's Into the Badlands and Fighting with My Family. Beyond straightforward comedy, Frost has also starred in more horror-driven fare, including Slaughterhouse Rulez and Truth Seekers, the latter of which he co-created with Pegg.

The anxiety one feels getting into a cab has mostly been lost with the advent of rideshare apps. However, every once in a while, terrible stories break through with tragic results. Black Cab, a new thrilling horror film from director Bruce Goodison, reminds us of those anxious experiences. With Nick Frost returning to horror to play an antagonist to Syvonne Karlsen, Black Cab transitions between tones and subgenres with precise maneuvering. Thanks to its great performances, Black Cab rises above the seclusion of its actors.

Black Cab, Shudders new film starring Nick Frost is quick to swerve away from being a bona fide horror ride. It merges somewhere onto the highly trafficked super freeway of psychological thrillers where the likes of Leave the World Behind, Knock at the Cabin, and the recent Cellar Door manage to do more by showing less.
Directed by Bruce Goodison, and written by David Michael Emerson with additional material by Frost and Virginia Gilbert, the film also stars Synnve Karlsen in a standout performance that is fierce and deeply layered. Luke Norris (The Weekend Away) also stars in this film that recalls the ethereal 1981 slow-burn thriller Ghost Story, which featured the great Fred Astaire in a tale about how internal angst can become the most frightening thing around.

We’re somehow already in the fourth quarter of 2024, but the good news is that we’re getting a new Nick Frost horror movie every month as we wrap up this year. The action horror comedy Krazy House, which JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray hated when he caught a screening at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, was given a VOD release on October 4th. The serial killer thriller Get Away will be getting a theatrical release on December 6th. And slotting in between those two is the supernatural horror movie Black Cab, which is coming our way from Shudder, Sony Pictures Television, and Stolen Pictures, and will be released through the Shudder streaming service on November 8th. Our friends at Bloody Disgusting got the first look at the trailer, which is now embedded above.

Exclusive: Sam Mendes has picked Johnny Flynn, Tuppence Middleton and Sherlock’s Mark Gatiss to portray legendary stars Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor and John Gielgud in The Motive and the Cue, a mouth-watering new play by Jack Thorne that explores how acting giants Burton and Gielgud staged Hamlet on Broadway in 1964.
Burton, newly wed to Taylor after their affair on the set of epic film Cleopatra, signed on to play the Danish prince in a fabled production directed by Gielgud in New York.
On opening night in April, 1964, scores of police hemmed in crowds who were as eager to catch a glimpse of Taylor entering the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre as they were to see her husband as the depressed Dane.

Current B-grade thrillers so frequently have too little plot — often not much more than a starting premise — that it’s almost refreshing to see something like “The Weekend Away,” which has many more narrative complications than it can pull off. Certainly not with sufficient credibility, suspense or atmosphere, and not in one hectic hour and a half. Nonetheless, this Netflix original plunging Leighton Meester into peril on a Croatian holiday is fast-moving enough to provide a decent night’s disposable home entertainment for viewers whose expectations aren’t geared any higher.
Director Kim Farrant’s last two features both involved suspicions cast on unstable adults over missing children. Whereas in “Weekend’s” missing person scenario, our protagonist is pretty much the sole character who doesn’t end up looking guilty of something or other. London-based American Beth (Meester) arrives in Split for a long-planned getaway with old pal Kate (Christina Wolfe...

"Did you lose something?" "My friend." Netflix has revealed the official trailer for a new "edge-of-your-seat thriller" titled The Weekend Away, about a trip-gone-wrong in Croatia. Ah man, don't make Croatia look scary, too! I've always wanted to visit. A weekend getaway to Croatia goes awry when a woman (Leighton Meester) is accused of killing her best friend (Christina Wolfe) and her efforts to get to the truth uncover a painful secret. From that description this sounds like a thriller version of the Amanda Knox story, which was already turned into the Matt Damon film Stillwater from last year. In addition to Meester & Wolfe, the cast includes Ziad Bakri, Luke Norris, and Amar Bukvic. This looks extra cheesy, with all the partying and all the on-the-run scenes. They're just rehashing this same story and setting it in another country again. Here's the official trailer for Kim Farrant's The Weekend Getaway,...

"This is Camden, where everyone has a story..." Netflix has finally unveiled an official trailer for an indie romantic musical titled Been So Long, which is premiering at the London Film Festival this month before arriving on Netflix. This honestly looks like the first great movie musical since La La Land, and I've got a really good feeling it's going to be wonderful. Been So Long stars Michaela Coel as Simone, a dedicated single mother who, on an unusual night out on the town, is charmed by a handsome yet troubled stranger named Raymond, played by Arinzé Kene. Also starring George MacKay, Joe Dempsie, Luke Norris, Arsher Ali, Tom Forbes, Ashley Thomas, and Rakie Ayola. This isn't the greatest trailer, but there's still something about this that feels magical. As a fan of musicals myself, I can't wait to see this. Take a peek. Poldark creator Debbie Horsfield has lifted the lid on the final season of the British period drama, which will air in 2019.
Horsfield has opened up about her approach to the fifth and final season of the Mammoth Screen-produced drama after BBC and PBS confirmed its end. This comes ahead of the launch of the fourth season, which launches on PBS Masterpiece on Sunday September 30 at 9pm.
Poldark is based on twelve novels by Winston Graham; season four is based on the seventh novel, The Angry Tide. However, the author left a gap of ten years before the eighth novel, The Stranger from the Sea.
Horsfield, who has written every episode of the four series, said, “In The Stranger from the Sea, Winston Graham made many references to developments that happened in the gap years. Much can also be inferred. There are, of course, also historical events and people of the time,...

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from Season 3, Episode 3 of “Poldark.”]
After such an eventful premiere — which, to be fair, was actually Episodes 1 and 2 together — Sunday’s latest “Poldark” was an exercise in frustration. The majority of the action was literally about people waiting: Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) in France waiting on word from an informant about his friend Dwight Enys (Luke Norris), who’s gone missing while out at sea, and their wives waiting to hear back about their respective fates abroad. “How frustrating is a woman’s lot,” Dwight’s wife Caroline (Gabriella Wilde) laments to Ross’ better half Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson). Ah, if only being left i were the worst of it in an episode that highlighted the gender inequities of the time.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from the Season 3 premiere of “Poldark.”]
For Season 3, “Poldark” had to pull itself out of the mire of bitterness and betrayal that plagued the end of last season, when the series’ hero tarnished his sterling character with infidelity. The central romance suffered as a result, and still stings in the hearts of both his faithful spouse and viewers.
And for the most part, it does appear that Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) is keeping his word to his wife Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) this season, although a shadow cools their once sizzling-hot romance. The season begins several months since last season, enough time for his old flame and one-night affair Elizabeth (Heida Reed) to be ready to pop out a baby any second. And while the passage of time has allowed Ross and Demelza to reconnect, it has only allowed toxicity to bloom in Elizabeth. Not only is she still angry at Ross for bedding and then jilting her,...
