Like most rising star comics today, looking to further build their audience while reaping due rewards for their work, Joe Pera is self-releasing his latest special, Joe Pera: Slow & Steady, taking it directly to YouTube. Taped to a packed house at The Opera House of Williamsburg on June 15th, his new hour will premiere on Friday, October 6th at 8:00pm Et, exclusively on his YouTube channel @JoePeraComedy.
A trailer teasing the special can be found above.
Slow & Steady was independently financed and produced and comes to the internet following the conclusion of Pera’s cult favorite Adult Swim series, Joe Pera Talks With You. Little has been revealed about the subject matter he’ll address, but it will of course be marked by Pera’s singular slow, gentle style as, more or less, the Mister Rogers of comedy.
In Pera’s words, “The ‘Slow & Steady’ special is the culmination...

After a festival run last year, Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party, the latest film from Stephen Cone (Black Box, The Wise Kids), begins its theatrical release in New York City today. A coming-of-age picture dealing with sexual confusion, social tension, and the theme of identity in middle America, we were fans of it following its BAMcinemaFest screening, and are pleased to exclusively premiere the theatrical poster.
“The themes we make films about, we often don’t realize are important to us until much later,” Cone tells New York Times. “I’m 35. I haven’t spent the last 20 years thinking I need to tackle these knotty issues that I’ve been dealing with. It’s only lately in the last 5 or 6 years that I’ve decided to focus on some of the ideas and tensions that have been bubbling beneath the surface.”

Shooting for 14 days on location in Lake Arrowhead, CA (with additional days in and around the nearby environs of Los Angeles) and written by Daniel Fanaberia, the flick revolves around ‘A couple. A kidnapping. A secret. A weekend to meet the parents becomes a weekend of trying to stay alive for perfect Steven and Erika’ (according to the production’s PR).
The film stars Tom (Puppetmaster: Axis of Evil) Sandoval and Swedish actress Frida Farrell as the unlucky duo. Writer Fanaberia and actors Remy O’Neil, Lisa R. Segal, and Arthur Roberts round out the film’s cast.
