Astro Bot won four awards, including game of the year, at The Game Awards on Thursday night. Astro Bot also walked away with the awards for best game direction, best action/adventure game and best family game.

The ceremony featured appearances from some of the most notable figures in the entertainment and video game industry including Aaron Paul, Ella Purnell, Harrison Ford, Hideo Kojima, Khalid, Laura Bailey, Todd Howard and Troy Baker.

The Game Awards also debuted world premieres for upcoming video game releases from studios such as Borderlands 4 from Gearbox Software, Dispatch from Adhoc, Elden Ring Nightreign from FromSoftware, Inc., Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet from Naughty Dog, Mafia: The Old Country from Hangar 13, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds from Sega, Split Fiction from Hazelight Studios, Stage Fright from Ghost Town Games and The Witcher 4 from CD Projekt Red.

The 2024 Game Awards are in the books and a tiny little robot has come out on top of the big awards show.

Hosted by gaming industry star Geoff Keighley out of the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the event covered 29 competitive categories, including Game of the Year. The games that were up for that top honor include “Astro Bot” (which took home the prize), “Balatro,” “Black Myth: Wukong,” “Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree,” “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth,” and “Metaphor: ReFantazio.”

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the awards show, and Keighley and the Game Awards team promise big surprises to come during the night, including announcements about games coming in 2025 and beyond.

The Game Awards recognizes excellence in the global video game industry, as selected by a global jury of over 130 media publications and influencer outlets.

The ceremony will be streaming live everywhere from the Peacock Theater on Thursday, December 12, with the pre-show kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Et and the main ceremony beginning at 8 p.m. Et.

This year’s nominees are led by Astro Bot and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, each with seven nominations, including Game of the Year.

It’s the 10th anniversary of the award show, and fans are expecting some huge announcement and previews of upcoming games.

The Game Awards announced its nominations for the 2024 ceremony on Monday.

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Team Asobi’s Astro Bot lead the pack of nominees with seven nominations each, including game of the year. Studio Zero’s Metaphor: ReFantazio earned six nominations, LocalThunk’s Balatro earned five and Game Science’s Black Myth: Wukong and FromSoftware’s Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree both earned four, rounding out the game of the year category.

Major film and television studios and streamers were among this year’s nominations, due to the uptick in video game adaptions. The show’s best adaptation category includes Netflix’s Arcane, Amazon’s Fallout, Paramount+’s Sonic universe-set Knuckles, Amazon’s Like a Dragon: Yakuza and Netflix’s Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.

Today - November 18 - the nominees for The Game Awards 2024 have officially been revealed, giving fans a better idea of what titles are standout hits from this past year. Last year's Goty winner was the unstoppable Baldur's Gate 3, but with 2024 including releases like Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, there are lots of great contenders for Game of the Year 2024, along with every other category.

As revealed by Tga on X, Astro Bot, Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erd Tree, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio are all contenders for Game Of The Year 2024. Both Astro Bot and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are up for the most awards, with a total of seven nominations across several different categories, including Game of the Year and Best Game Direction. Nominations for the 2024 Game Awards, which honor the year’s most innovative, unique and impactful story-driven narratives in the gaming industry, were announced Monday.

Leading the pack is the popular Japanese RPG adventure series Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with a total number of seven nominations. Following the critical success of Rebirth, released earlier this year in February, the third and final game in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy is officially in active development. First reported by 4Gamer, the Japanese website revealed that during a recent appearance at the G-con 2024 convention in South Korea, Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that Square Enix hashed out the third game’s plot and overall concept, marking the pre-production finalization.

Max Caulfield, the protagonist of the first game of the Life is Strange franchise, is making a return in Double Exposure later this month on October 29. The new title comes from Square Enix and developer Deck Nine, which previously worked on previous series' entries Before the Storm, True Colors, and the remaster of the original Life is Strange. Taking place several years after the events of the first game, Max will have a whole new murder mystery to solve utilizing a completely different power than she had previously.

Max has come a long way since her time in Arcadia Bay, now serving as an artist in residence at Vermonts Caledon University. The game features an almost entirely new cast of characters than the original LiS, including Safi, a friend Max discovers murdered in the snow.
