Tyson originally attended Simon Fraser University, majoring in film and T.V.
After attending Simon Fraser University, Hepburn teamed up with fellow student John Driftmier and together they created 'PYROS' with Omni Film Productions and 'JACKED!' with Pix Com Productions.
In 2013, Tyson and Driftmier teamed up with Academy Award Nominated Producer David Paperny . Together, they created 'Cold Water Cowboys,' a series following the high-stakes commercial fisheries off the coast of Newfoundland. In the midst of creating the program, Driftmier tragically passed away in an aircraft accident.
Discovery Channel greenlit the show two months after Driftmier's untimely passing. In a twist of fate, Driftmier was working on another production called 'Dangerous Flights' in Kenya, Africa at the time.
'Cold Water Cowboys' premiered almost exactly one year later (February 25th, 2014) to record numbers. The first episode garnered the third-highest ratings of any Discovery Channel premiere in its history.
In 2017, Tyson teamed up with Matt Shewchuk to create Mayhem Entertainment. Rust Valley Restorers was their first production in 2017.
Since then, the long-running series has become a global hit on History Channel Canada and Netflix International. In early 2020, the series garnered a nomination for the Canadian Screen Awards and two wins at the Leo Awards.
Tyson and Matt teamed up with Cineflix Productions to help launch 'The Dog Dudes' in 2018.
In 2021, Tyson stepped out on his own and founded Tyson Media.
