On its surface, Lake George is a crime thriller -- but that's just barely scratching the surface of the movie. Marvel fan-favorite Shea Whigham and The White Lotus Season 3 star Carrie Coon are fantastic in the film, which is actually more of a buddy comedy slash road trip picture that happens to have a criminal element. It's a truly unique picture, and the biggest reason why is the flawless chemistry between its two stars.

In an interview with Cbr for the home video release of Lake George, Coon and Whigham talked about what brought them both to the movie. They also revealed just how much went into filming, from the development of their characters to the actual shoot. The production of the film is almost as interesting as the movie itself, and the actors explain what they love about the finished product.

Cbr: What was it that attracted you to Lake George initially?...

Exclusive: Premiere Entertainment Group has acquired international rights to the Shea Whigham (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning) and Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age) crime thriller Lake George.

Premiere will launch international sales this week at the European Film Market.

The neo-noir road movie follows an ex-con who is coerced by mobsters into executing a hit on a woman, but instead, the two misfits hatch a plan to steal money from the people who want her dead. Max Casella and Glenn Fleshler round out the lead cast.

Jeffrey Reiner directed the film from his original screenplay. Reiner also produced alongside Joey Oglesby, Cleta Ellington, and Bernie Stern. Michael Hillman and Brent Wilson served as executive producers.

The film was released in limited theaters and on digital in the U.S. on December 6 via Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, after its premiere at Tribeca.

Shea Whigham and Carrie Coon have been two of the ever-reliable actors for a long time. They have shined in many projects that were rarely the zeitgeist from those times. ‘Lake George’ (2024) offers them to be the dynamic central pair as versions of the classic runaway duo, ‘Bonnie and Clyde’. However, unlike the 1967 film, this crime thriller is far more grounded. It isn’t about an angry young man rebelling against the world. Instead, it’s about a middle-aged man, coping with past regrets, and hoping for a fresh start. In his journey for mere survival, he faces unusual problems.

The film’s protagonist, Don (Shea Whingham), returns from his long term in prison. Now fairly old, he struggles to find work or even a friendly face. His past friends and family ignore him. While some of them are dead, he is dead for the others. He is jaded and has nothing to return to.

Lake George is an example of a crime drama with a welcome dash of offbeat comedy. It’s less of the former and more of the latter. Written and directed by Jeffrey Reiner, the dark comedy neo-noir is a breath of fresh air at points, and a recycled crime thriller at others. What keeps it going is its oddball sense of humor and the winning pair of Shea Whigham and Carrie Coon, who are delightful and perfect together onscreen. Lake George is very much the epitome of the journey being more important than the destination.

Lake George follows a recently released white-collar criminal tasked with a difficult assignment by his boss: to eliminate the boss's girlfriend before she can expose secrets. Shea Whigham and Carrie Coon are back together in another noir-influenced dark comedy in Lake George. The latter found her on-screen breakout with the Damon Lindelof-co-created supernatural drama The Leftovers and the movie adaptation of Gone Girl, following it up with celebrated turns in everything from Steven Spielberg's The Post to the most recent Ghostbusters sequels and HBO's The Gilded Age. The trailer has been released for Lake George. Lake George is a crime thriller about two people who end up on a road trip together, despite one of them having more nefarious intentions. The film features a leading cast including Shea Whigham, Carrie Coon, Max Casella, Ashley Fink, Glenn Fleshler, Troy Metcalf, Joey Oglesby, and Derk Phillips. The trailer introduces ex-con Don (Wingham), who is put up by a crime boss named Armen (Fleshler) take care of Armen's problem. In this case, the problem in question is a woman named Phyllis, who Don is tasked to kill. After Don picks up Phyllis, he fidns that he cannot actually kill her.

Carrie Coon is continuing her cult status as the go-to actress for complex performances.

The star, who leads HBO series “The Gilded Age” and Azazel Jacobs’ Netflix drama “His Three Daughters,” is poised to leave her mark on the “White Lotus” franchise with the highly anticipated third season. It had to happen sooner or later. The Walking Dead gets its inevitable spoof movie in Walking with the Dead, which started shooting this week in San Antonio, Texas.

Production company Mndfck announced the project this morning, with A Haunted House and Scary Movie vet Dave Sheridan headlining the cast. Also appearing in the comedy are Jacqui Holland, Joey Oglesby and Tim Ogletree.

Newcomer Scott Dow is directing from a screenplay by Tim Ogletree.

The Weinstein Company has acquired writer-director Ryan Coogler's debut feature Fruitvale, beating out studios such as Fox Searchlight, Paramount Pictures, Focus Features and CBS Films in a heated bidding war.

The drama is based on the true story of Oscar Grant (Michael B. Jordan), a 22-year-old man who was shot dead in Oakland by transit police, in a case that caused protests over police brutality in the Bay Area. Chad Michael Murray, Kevin Durand, Octavia Spencer, Ahna O'Reilly, and Melonie Diaz also star.

Fruitvale was picked up for just over $2 million by The Weinstein Company, in a deal that guarantees a commitment for a major theatrical release. Forest Whitaker produced the drama alongside Nina Yang, with actress Octavia Spencer also serving as a co-executive producer.

Parodies on horror can be hard to get right, as witnessed by Scary Movie. Personally I thought Scary Movie was quite good, it took Scream as the main focus and actually got a few laughs out of it, and then Scary Movie 2 came along which in a diluted form did the same but with the haunted house setting as the focus of the comedy. After that and after the Wayans brothers left the series it went downhill fast, even though the inclusion of Lesley Nielsen did save it to some extent. Now that we know that Scary Movie 5 is on its way I’m sure that most of us groaned at the thought of that dead dog being kicked once more.
