When "Cheers" premiered in 1982 on NBC, fans became immediately invested in the Sam Malone (Ted Danson) and Diane Chambers (Shelley Long) romance. First, there was the will they/won't they dynamic, and then they got together. However, these very mismatched love birds broke up at the end of the second season. Enter her new psychologist, Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer). We didn't know it at the time, but this very pretentious boyfriend was going to have not one, but two series set around him. I never did get his appeal during the run of "Cheers." I really hated his character ... and yet somehow found myself watching his NBC spinoff "Frasier." Yes, I bought into the tossed salad and scrambled eggs of it all like the rest of the world. Well, most of the rest of the world.

The beloved sitcom starring Kelsey Grammer as psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane returns with a “sequel series” on Paramount+. Lisa Kudrow was initially cast as Roz Doyle in Frasier but was fired due to the pivotal Lupe Velez scene not working with her ethereal acting style. Kudrow's firing turned out for the best as she later auditioned for the role of Phoebe in Friends, which was a perfect fit for her. Peri Gilpin was perfect as Roz, as she was a fierce and feminine counterpart to Frasier, which made their dynamic interesting.
Frasier director James Burrows reveals which scene got Lisa Kudrow fired. Before joining Friends as the bubbly and eccentric Phoebe, the actor was previously up to be in the famed Cheers spin-off. Kudrow was meant to play Roz Doyle — Frasier's Kacl producer. The actor has talked about being booted out of the role, but she never got into the specifics of why she was removed from the Seattle-based sitcom.

The upcoming Frasier reboot is the only way fans will see the beloved Cheers characters again, as a Cheers revival is unlikely to happen. Frasier's revival series takes place in Boston, hinting at a potential Cheers reunion, but it is unclear how many old drinking buddies will appear. While a Cheers reboot may not be natural or appealing, the Frasier reboot allows for the return of original sitcom characters in a more fitting and meaningful way.
Based on comments made by Cheers co-creator James Burrows, the upcoming Frasier reboot is the only way fans will see the original show's characters again. Frasier, which follows Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) as a radio show host in Seattle, is a spinoff of the beloved Boston-based '80s sitcom Cheers. Fans hopeful for a Cheers reboot or revival may be disappointed as co-creator James Burrows shoots down the idea, saying it's time to wrap it up. Ted Danson, who played Sam Malone in Cheers, also rejected the idea of a revival, joking about a potential "Cheers, The Old Age Home." Despite the lack of a Cheers revival, Burrows is reuniting with Kelsey Grammer for the Frasier reboot, directing two episodes of the upcoming series premiering on Paramount+.
Before hosting his radio talk show, Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) was a frequent guest of the bar where everybody knew his name. Cheers creator James Burrows firmly rejects the idea of a reboot, stating that the show had a perfect ending and should be enjoyed in syndication. Unlike Kelsey Grammer's push for a Frasier revival, the lead of Cheers, Ted Danson, does not seem interested in revisiting the show, making a revival nearly impossible. Narratively, there is no compelling reason to revive Cheers, as its ending was definitive while Frasier starts his fourth act in his new show.
Cheers co-creator James Burrow squashes all hope that a revival will happen even with Frasier coming back. Before Kelsey Grammer starred in his Seattle-based show, he first played Frasier Crane in Cheers, establishing that both shows take place in the same continuity. Despite being part of a single franchise, Burrows makes his stance clear about the possible reboot of the beloved Boston-set sitcom.

On a June afternoon in Austin, a clip reel of scenes from comedies like The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Laverne & Shirley, Cheers, and Friends has an audience at the annual Atx Television Festival howling with laughter. But one person watches with tears in his eyes: TV veteran James Burrows, who, over the span of a five-decade career, directed all these famous faces — Moore, Ted Danson and Shelley Long, Kelsey Grammer, and Jennifer Aniston — and helped shaped their now-classic sitcoms into the shows we know and love. As Atx honored Burrows, 82, with the festival’s Achievement in Television Excellence award, TV Guide Magazine’s West Coast bureau chief moderated a discussion with the 11-time (!) Emmy winner. It was a walk down memory lane that included everything from his first big break to the secret of his directing success to whether we’ll ever see a Cheers reboot. Valerie Harper, Mary Tyler Moore...

Who knew that when Dr. Frasier Crane first appeared on the iconic 1980s sitcom Cheers, the character would have the staying power to last decades?
Perhaps Kelsey Grammar, who portrays the fastidious psychiatrist, did. Grammar took Frasier from pining over Shelly Long's, Diane, and drinking beers in Boston to telling radio fans, "I'm listening" in Seattle.
Where is Dr. Frasier Crane headed next? We'll take a look at everything you need to know about the new Frasier!
How Did the Original Frasier End?
When Cheers ended in 1993, Dr. Frasier Crane moved back to his hometown of Seattle, Washington. Frasier began a new phase of his career, hosting his own radio show and giving listeners advice.
He also reconnected with his family, which included his father, Martin, a retired police officer, and brother, Niles, who, to viewer's shock, was even more quirky and fastidious than Frasier!

One of the most beloved comedy shows of all time, Cheers, ended after eleven successful seasons. The show originally aired on NBC and was created by James Burrows, Glen Charles, and Les Charles. Throughout its prominent run on network television, Cheers accumulated 28 Emmy Awards and became one of the most influential American sitcoms ever made. The final episode of Cheers amassed nearly 85 million live viewers, making it the second-most-viewed series finale in television history after M*A*S*H.
The iconic sitcom aired its eleven seasons beginning in 1982 before ending in 1993, the same year that the spinoff Cheers series Fraiser premiered. A recent reunion featuring the cast of Cheers led to an epic roast of Woody Harrelson, though he wasn't around to respond. With the 30th anniversary of the Cheers finale, plus a revival of the Cheers spinoff Frasier on the way, the Atx Television Festival hosted a reunion that included actors Ted Danson, George Wendt, and John Ratzenberger and series co-creators James Burrows, Len, and Glen Charles. Over the course of the discussion, there were remembers of Cheers alum Kirstie Alley, who passed away in December 2022.
As reported by IndieWire, the Cheers reunion also had some lighthearted moments. Danson, who played the memorable bartender Sam, led a hilarious roast of Woody Harrelson (who played Woody Boyd). Given that Harrelson wasn't present at the Atx event, Danson encouraged others to share their funny memories of Harrelson. Went, who portrayed Norm, obliged and shared a story of how the vegetarian Harrelson reacted after eating pork.

With “Cheers” reaching its 30th anniversary since the series finale — and with a revival of its popular spinoff, “Frasier,” expected later this year — it was time for the Atx Television Festival to do what it does best: host a reunion. Stars Ted Danson, George Wendt, and John Ratzenberger sat down with co-creators James Burrows, Len, and Glen Charles for an hourlong discussion about the impact of NBC’s landmark series.
Danson, every bit as thoughtful and tender as his “Cheers” character Sam Malone was single-minded and unrefined, made sure to honor who wasn’t in attendance, as well as those who made the trip to Austin, TX for Friday night’s panel. Initially, he credited co-star Shelley Long for getting him the career-making role in the first place.
“I don’t think we’ve seen a character like that since Lucille Ball,” he said of Long’s ebullient lead, Diane Chambers.

This post contains spoilers for "Ted Lasso" season 3.
"Ted Lasso" season 3 has just come to an end, leaving the fictional team of AFC Richmond at a crossroads after their head coach leaves his fish-and-chips-out-of-water life in London behind. Overall, the supposedly last season of the Apple TV+ phenomenon left a lot to be desired, failing to live up to the high points of the first two seasons where the jokes that hit far outweighed the ones that fell flat. While a lot of the episodes in season 3 felt overly long and unnecessarily melodramatic, the overall spirit of the show managed to stay intact thanks to Jason Sudeikis' naively positive "aw shucks" attitude as Ted.
Ted isn't only a sports fan, he's a pop culture aficionado raised on Thursday night primetime sitcoms from the '80s. Throughout its entire run, "Ted Lasso" has peppered in a number of clever references to the golden years of U.

We are junkies and art is our drug. Family we love – but art? We are meshuggah for art. You think I wanted to leave my sisters, my mama and my papa and go stick my stupid head in the mouth of lions?”
So rants Judd Hirsch’s “Uncle Boris” in one of the pivotal scenes from Steven Spielberg’s masterful auto-biopic The Fabelmans. Boris, an eccentric crank based on the filmmaker’s real great-uncle, unleashes the abrasive life lesson on the adolescent Spielberg-alike Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel Labelle) during Hirsch’s fleeting appearance in the film. (Meshuggah, by the way, means “crazy” in Yiddish, and those lions are – for Sammy at least – metaphorical.) It was a moment that Spielberg claims made him become a director. And it was a scene that secured Hirsch his second Oscar nomination, a record-breaking 42 years after his first. Now a few days shy of 88, Hirsch would...

Warning: this article contains mild spoilers for Three Day Millionaire
British heist comedy Three Day Millionaire just arrived on Netflix, and it’s certainly an entertaining watch. Part poignant Full Monty-style working class identity crisis, part Guy-Ritchie-esque geezer flick, it tells the story of a group of young trawlermen who lose everything when the Grimsby fishing industry finally folds, so they decide to pull off a daring robbery to secure the money they need to shore up their futures.
The convincing premise to this 2022 Britcom – starring Corrie’s James Burrows, Sam Glen (World’s End) and impressive newcomer Michael Kinsey – naturally makes us wonder how much of it is based on a true story.
The answer? Well, not the heist itself, at least.
But you might be surprised at some of the real details used in the film:
The Grimsby Fishing Industry Really Did Fold Overnight

Director: Alex Chandon. Writers: Alex Chandon and Paul Shrimpton. Cast: Jo Hartley, Seamus O'Neill, James Doherty, James Burrows, Neil Leiper, Chris Waller, Nadine Rose Mulkerrin, Terry Haywood, Damien Lloyd-Davies, Derek Melling, Mark Rathbone and Dominic Brunt. Tagline: "They came in peace...they left in pieces." Inbred is a little indie horror production from the United Kingdom and director Alex Chandon (Cradle of Fear). Chandon brings his years of experience in digital special effects to this title in bloody fashion. Very gory, Inbred is a tale of several youths sent up to the north of England to find reform with two social workers. They find a group of blood-thirsty town folk who need more bodies for their terror filled carnival. Thus, outsiders and locals collide in this horror production, which is filled with hilarious moments of dark comedy. Tim (James Burrows), Zeb (Terry Haywood), Sam (Nadine Mulkerrin) and Dwight (Chris Waller) are the dysfunctional kids.

If you’re acquainted with Karl Pilkington, the most idiosyncratic and avant-garde thinker of the 21st century, then you’ll know that Northerners are “a bit weird, innit?” In the United Kingdom, Northerners are the equivalent to American Southerners (or, if you’re Canadian, anyone outside Toronto), and are often at the brunt of aren’t-they-poor, aren’t-they-backwards, aren’t-they-stupid, and, yes, even aren’t-they-inbred jokes. A country’s regional divide can serve as fodder for socio-economic and cultural insight, or gory and insular hillbilly horror; Inbred dabbles in the former, but ultimately ends up being the latter. If Deliverance and The Hills Have Eyes came together and got to know Kes in the biblical sense, Inbred would be their unholy offspring; a film that combines grindhouse and slaughterhouse.

Up north we don’t like outsiders in Yorkshire coming and trying to take over. We live on farms and drink at the local pub and keep our shotguns ready just in case… well not really, but there are a few villages with their local pubs where outsiders are frowned on and strangers watched with a nervous and distrusting eye. This is the world of the League of Gentlemen, American Werewolf in London, Emmerdale, and now Inbred.
The premise for Inbred is quite simple really; a group of young offenders (from the look and sound of them “southerners”) are taken on a weekend trip into the countryside of Yorkshire. They soon find themselves lost in the village of Mortlake where the locals like to spend their time...

Synopsis
Four young urban offenders and their care workers embark on a community service weekend in the strange, remote Yorkshire village of Mortlake, which prides on keeping itself to itself. Visiting the local pub, ‘The Dirty Hole,’ which serves home-made (and suspiciously hairy) pork scratchings, they quickly realise they’ve made the wrong holiday choice. Wow, now this is quite an unnerving start to the week. Alex Chandon's new UK horror 'Inbred' already sounds pretty crazy but this welcome fact is more than solidified by the release of a bunch of new one-sheets, teaser posters and quads from the movie each more disturbing and twisted than the last. The flick premiering at London's FrightFest next weekend stars Jo Hartley, Seamus O'Neill, James Doherty, James Burrows, Neil Leiper, Chris Walker, Nadine Rose Mulkerrin, Terry Haywood and Mark Rathbone. Check out the new posters below which do all have one thing in common; the inclusion of the strapline 'They Came In Peace. They Left In Pieces'...Nice..Nice....

Inbred will have its World Premiere at London's 2011 Fright Fest August 29th at 6:30pm. This film, shot in the United Kingdom, gives a very English flavour to an often seen American theme of inbreeding and mutation. Just think of the Wrong Turn series of films and the many Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies. Both of these series involve a family shunning normal societal behaviour in favour of murder and bloodshed. This stereotype was developed in the American Appalachians, to generalize a group of hard-working, but misunderstood people who mostly stuck to a clan mentality. Now, the massacre moves to the hills of Yorkshire, where a group of community workers are in for the surprise of their lives.
As well, this film is a co-production between New Flesh Films and Split Second Films. This is the first feature to be produced by New Flesh Films, but the seventh for Split Second.
