The Maze Runner: The Death Cure ending brings the trilogy of dystopian YA movies based on James Dashner's novels to a close, though it wasn't always obvious how the various plot threads running through the franchise connected for the finale. Even though the Maze Runner 3 ending explained a lot, it also left behind several questions. The Death Cure is the third and final installment in 20th Century's Maze Runner movie franchise. It follows 2014’s first film and the 2015 sequel Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, wrapping up the stories of Thomas, Newt, and Minho, and their fight against Wckd.
The third movie in the series, based on James Dashner's 2011 novel The Death Cure, arrived in 2018. While the final movie tied up several plot threads, the Maze Runner ending still warrants further explanation, as some of the conclusions in its multi-layered story aren't quite clear on first viewing. [This story contains major spoilers from the series finale of Fight Night.]
Kevin Hart’s Chicken Man is on the ground, breathing hard in fear, as Samuel L. Jackson’s badass gangster Frank Moten, known as the Black Godfather, holds a gun.
Subtly channeling Jackson’s legendary Pulp Fiction persona Jules Winnfield, Frank thunders, “You do believe in God, right?” Hart’s Chicken Man reply “with all my soul” produces a soft, but stern “then testify” from Frank. Not long after, a shot is fired, followed by a visual rewinding that flashes back to two weeks earlier, when Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist launched its story.
To launch the hit Peacock limited series — which Hart produces through his Hartbeat shingle with Will Packer — a black screened disclaimer appeared all capped in yellow type with the words “Based On Some Shit,” pause, “That Really Happened.” The series’ eighth and final episode returned to that moment, later revealing that Gordon “Chicken...

Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist is a pretty catchy title for a television show about Muhammad Ali's (Dexter Darden) triumphant return to boxing in October 1970. Well, that's what it seems like the show is about initially. And, indeed, the first few episodes are all about the city of Atlanta getting ready for the big fight. However, by the end of Episode 3, Ali has left Atlanta, and a much more sinister event moves into the spotlight. Six of Fight Night's eight total episodes have streamed on Peacock, and it's been a wild ride, to say the least.

Muhammad Ali called Oct. 26, 1970, his “day of judgment.” His refusal to be inducted to the Army during the Vietnam War, on moral and religious grounds, had pushed him out of the ring for 43 months. But that night in Atlanta, his boxing license restored, he faced “The Great White Hope” Jerry Quarry in his long-awaited return to the ring. Black royalty from Harlem to Birmingham showed up and showed out: Diana Ross, Sidney Poitier, Hank Aaron, and Corretta Scott King filled ringside seats. Filling the stands right alongside them were a bevy of gangsters,...

Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist just premiered on Peacock but is this new crime drama worth the watch? Find out!
Based on a podcast, Fight Night tells an incredibly true crime story. In 1970, Muhammad Ali (Dexter Darden) was making his much-hyped return boxing match after being banned for a few years for refusing the Army draft. Atlanta Detective Jd Hudson (Don Cheadle) is assigned to oversee Ali before and after the fight, not liking the guy or how he’s chosen simply for being a black detective.
Meanwhile, with all of Atlanta buzzing on the fight, low-level hoodlum Gordon “Chicken Man” Williams (Kevin Hart), who wants a big payday, hits on the idea of staging a “casino night” party and invites the big players in the city to take part. That includes an invite for Frank Moten (Samuel L. Jackson), “the Godfather of Harlem.” However, a pack of local...

Kevin Hart leads a starry cast of characters in Peacock's new crime drama miniseries, Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist. As its title suggests, the series is based on an exceptionally ambitious heist, previously documented in iHeart Radio's similarly titled true-crime podcast helmed and hosted by Jeff Keating. Both recount the true-to-life events of a shocking armed robbery that occurred the night of Muhammad Ali's first professional boxing match after being banned from the sport for years as a result of refusing to be drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
The stakes were high not only for the renowned boxer's comeback but for a crowd who gathered to celebrate Ali's historic fight at an ill-fated afterparty targeted by thieves. “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist,” the eight-episode miniseries (currently streaming on Peacock), documents two major events in Atlanta’s history. While Muhammad Ali made his professional boxing comeback with a win against Jerry Quarry at Atlanta’s Municipal Auditorium on October 26, 1970, a group of hoodlums robbed the Black Mafia of more than $1 million in cash and jewelry at a nearby after-party. As a result, Atlanta eventually became a Black Mecca.
At the center of “Fight Night” is street hustler Gordon “Chicken Man” Williams (Kevin Hart), who hosts the after-party in honor of New York mobster Frank Moten (Samuel L. Jackson), who controls the gangs. While Chicken Man sees Atlanta as a potential Black Vegas, Moten has more ambitious plans for turning the city into a Black Mecca. But just when it looks like they can work together, the robbery turns Chicken Man into the prime suspect. In the aftermath,...

The events of October 26th, 1970, in Atlanta, Georgia, provided the spark for an unforgettable limited series. On that night, boxing legend Muhammad Ali made his long-awaited return to the ring at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium. Though Ali was victorious over Jerry Quarry, the real excitement was unfolding elsewhere in the city.

It takes a while to realize that the hero of Peacock’s new crime dramedy Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist isn’t, in fact, any of the series’ convoy of flamboyant gangsters, hoodlums and petty criminals but, rather, the city of Atlanta. And that the titular heist, despite the stated financial value, is really one of prestige and global recognition
Or perhaps the hero of Fight Night is Kevin Hart’s Chicken Man, not because he’s a character of virtue or ingenuity, but because Chicken Man represents Atlanta — a scrapper with big dreams learning to overcome his disreputable past by thinking of the wider world beyond himself.
Full credit to Shaye Ogbonna, adapting the podcast of the same title, for making a comic thriller with the heart of an American Studies graduate thesis. I’m not being sarcastic! Fight Night has some actual things on its mind, plus...

A scripted adaptation of Jeff Keating and Jim Roberts’s iHeart podcast Fight Night, Peacock’s Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist begins in Atlanta on the night of October 26, 1970, as Muhammed Ali (Dexter Darden) makes his return to the ring following a three-year suspension. A local hustler known as the Chicken Man (Kevin Hart) decides to throw a glitzy post-fight party for some of the country’s most prestigious crime lords, hoping that this event might prove to be his big break. But when a group of masked gunmen barge through the door, this new beginning looks like it might turn into an untimely end.

The Maze Runner featured an impressive cast of talented actors, including some of the faces of the franchise — Dylan O'Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Kaya Scodelario. The 2014 movie was a part of a new wave of dystopian movie franchises in the early 2010s. “Abba Zabba, you my only friend!” Imagine they made a Half Baked 2. That sounds like a slam dunk, right? After all, the original didn’t set the box office on fire, but it’s presumably made a mint on home video. Well, it looks like Universal finally pulled the trigger on a Half Baked 2, but of the original cast, the only person to return is Rachel True, who played the love interest, Mary Jane. Yes folks, it happened, and the sequel, Half Baked: Totally High, is going straight to Blu-ray, with an April 16th release date.
All this begs the question, why, twenty-five years later, make a Half Baked sequel without either Dave Chappelle, an infinitely bigger star now than he was in 1998, and Jim Breuer? Chappelle, I kind of get – the man is busy and would probably cost millions and millions to get, but Jim Breuer? Could...

Taraji P. Henson is going to keep telling her truth.
As she took the stage at the 2024 ABFF Honors on Sunday night, “The Color Purple” star pointed to a tattoo on her left bicep that spells out those words exactly: “The Truth.”
“If you are alive and God blessed you with another day to live, it is your job to tell your truth,” Henson told the crowd gathered for the American Black Film Festival’s marquee gala. “Because by you telling your truth, you set yourself free and somebody else free. When we stay quiet, nothing changes. The squeaky wheel gets fixed.”
That ideology is something Henson’s learned to keep close over the years, particularly when it comes to navigating Hollywood.
