The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Poweris officially returning for a third season. The controversial Prime Video original series dives into the deeper works of J.R.R. Tolkien to craft a larger vision of the world of Middle-earth before the War of the Ring. The first two seasons of The Rings of Power depicted the return of the Dark Lord Sauron to Middle-earth after his and Morgoth's defeat in the First Age. Now, as the end of the Second Age looms nearer, Sauron works to corrupt the races of Men, Elves, and Dwarves, swaying them with the otherworldly strength of his deviously crafted rings of power. However, a small group of foresighted Elves and Men work against the rising darkness in the world, fighting to keep...

When Nori Brandyfoot actress Markella Kavenagh discovered Gandalf might be a part of “The Lord Of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” she had no qualms about getting showrunners to spill the beans.
“So, the very first rehearsal I had with [Daniel Weyman] who plays the Stranger, I asked him in front of one of the showrunners, Patrick, if he was playing Gandalf,” Kavenagh said at a recent “Rings of Power” panel hosted by Variety. “Wrong move. Definitely bad. Wrong question at that stage. But Dan said something really cool, which was that at that point, The Stranger didn’t know who he really was, or what his journey really entails. And I honestly never thought about it again.”
For Kavenagh, Season 2 of “Rings of Power” was an opportunity to explore a more world-weary Nori: “Season 1 Nori was in such a different place. She’s seen a bit more of...

The opening scene of the Season 2 finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was a powerful one for King Durin III and his kin. Ultimately, King Durin, played by actor Peter Mullan, succumbs to a Balrog as he leaps toward it with his ax. Mullan recently talked about that fateful scene with Empire and said it made him “laugh.”
In the Season 2 finale titled “Shadow and Flame,” King Durin’s son, Durin IV (aka Prince Durin), played by Owain Arthur, finds his father trying to crack into the Mines of Moria to find more mithril. Prince Durin hates that his father was corrupted by the Rings Sauron made for the Dwarves. Digging for more of the precious mithril would destabilize the entire mine, and the prince does not want his father to be controlled by his greed. Things take a turn when a Balrog comes and...

Warning – this article contains spoilers for The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Season 2.
Bleedin’ Balrogs. Those giant, fiery creatures really do have a habit for ruining one’s day – but battling them has made for some incredible Middle-earth moments over the years. The latest came courtesy of The Rings Of Power Season 2, which saw Peter Mullan’s Scottish Dwarf King Durin III selflessly launch himself at the big horned baddie in order to save his people, after his obsession with one of those titular rings led him to dig too deeply into the Mines Of Moria. It was one of the emotional climaxes of the fantasy series’ second season, as Durin made the ultimate sacrifice, much to the devastation of son Durin IV (Owain Arthur) and his wife Disa (Sophia Nomvete).
As epic as the scene was to watch, shooting it was, for Mullan, quite a different-feeling experience.

Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power took the audience on an incredible journey through Season 2 as it explored Sauron (Charlie Vickers) creating the titular rings, the tumultuous politics of Nmenor, and the ever-growing rift between Durin IV (Owain Arthur) and his father. Despite an uneven start, Season 2 ended on a high with the epic battle in Eregion. However, it still fell victim to the most prevalent problem in fantasy TV: too short a season. With only eight hour-long episodes, The Rings of Power Season 2 didn't have sufficient time to tell its story effectively.

The Season 2 finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power came with full of surprises. In "Shadow and Flame," after losing his father to the Balrog of Morgoth, Durin IV (Owain Arthur) ascends to the throne of Khazad-dm, but not without contest. According to his wife Disa (Sophia Nomvete) and his steward Narvi (Kevin Eldon), there are rumors that Durin the Younger was not King Durin III's (Peter Mullan) preferred heir, and that his brother, whose name we still don't know, is gathering support among some of the Dwarf-lords. But who is Durin's brother, who all of a sudden is a threat to him after barely being mentioned before?...

The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Showrunners Debunk Popular "Dark Wizard" Theory - Spoilers

The second season of Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power came to an end this week, and the finale seemed to leave little doubt as to the identity of the "Dark Wizard" played by Game of Thrones alum Ciarán Hinds.
However, all may not be as it seems when it comes to this mysterious and very powerful character.
We know that this blatantly evil sorcerer is an "Istar," and it was generally assumed that he must be Sarauman. Granted, it would be a pretty major change to the lore if this character "broke bad" prior to the events of Tolkien's trilogy, but so would the introduction of another Istari who was never mentioned in the saga at all.
This led to speculation that Hinds might be playing either Alatar or Pallando, the "Blue Wizards" who are never really discussed in any great detail in The Lord of the Rings...

In a final act of redemption, the corrupted Dwarf king removes his ring and charges to face the fiery demon, sacrificing himself to seal the chamber while passing his crown and the rule of the mighty Dwarf kingdom to his son.
In Rhûn, we see The Stranger arrive at the Stoor village, going against Tom Bombadil's advice (or did he?) by setting his own quest aside to rescue Nori and Poppy. The mysterious Dark Wizard attempts to sway his "old friend" to his side, suggesting that together they will be powerful enough to defeat Sauron (he has to be Saruman.

The land of Mordor is where the shadows lie, and this article is where major spoilers lie. Read no further if you haven't watched the season 2 finale of "The Rings of Power."
Season 2 of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" saved its best and most dramatic episode for last, using the finale (titled "Shadow & Flame") as a way to depict the prolonged and utterly tragic Siege of Eregion. But just when viewers least expected it, showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay snuck in yet another game-changing event in Middle-earth that has been foreshadowed since the very first season. Under the guise of the envoy Annatar, Sauron (Charlie Vickers) successfully pulls off the ultimate sleight of hand: manipulating (and outright threatening) Charles Edwards' obsessive craftsman Celebrimbor into forging the nine rings of power for Men, goading the fallen elf Adar (Sam Hazeldine) into bringing an army of orcs...

Warning: This review contains spoilers for The Rings of Power's season 2 finaleThe Rings of Power is playing the long game. That's been clear since reports first emerged about creators Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne's five-season, billion-dollar plan for J.R.R. Tolkien's masterworks. To tell a story at this scale with this level of production value, planning is vital. But, part of what makes television so great is improvisation. Sure, it can lead to less-than-stellar results. But improvisation, or lack of a detailed map, has led to some of the best television ever created.

Prime Video has already released a brief promo for this Thursday's season 2 finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, but an extended version has now been shared online which features quite a bit of new footage.
Spoilers for the previous episode follow.
It's not the best quality, but the video shows more of the fierce battle between Galadriel and Sauron that was teased in the first trailer. The Dark Lord is still in his Annatar form here - but as we've already seen, this makes him no less powerful.
We also have another shot of the Balrog, who was first awakened from his long slumber in the season 2 finale. The fiery demon will be unleashed from his cavern deep beneath Moria when King Durin refuses to listen to his son and digs far too deeply into the mountain.
Finally, we get a glimpse of the Dark Wizard (surely Saruman?...

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' Season 2, Episode 7.The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2's penultimate episode, "Doomed to Die," is packed with action as the Elves go to war. The Elves go to battle against Adar, but they are horribly outnumbered. Quick Links The Rings of Power's Backlash May Have Been Too Hasty The Rings of Power Season 2 is Proving Lord of the Rings Fans Wrong The Future of The Rings of Power is Worth Sticking Around
It's no secret that Prime Video's The Rings of Power has been controversial among Lord of the Rings fans. From the very beginning, longtime lovers of Middle-earth have been wary about the new series, which aims to tell a more complete story about the forging of the Rings of Power leading up to the epic confrontation between Sauron and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. As a fan of movies and television, I tend to have the opposite reaction when a show gets heavy backlash from the fanbase to which it is directed, so I wasn't surprised when I liked the first season of The Rings of Power more than the average viewer.

The penultimate season 2 episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is now streaming, and despite featuring a massive battle and a couple of deaths (though we'd say Arondir is still kicking), it was a kiss between two characters that emerged as the biggest talking point.
Spoilers from this point on.
Though they never had a relationship in J.R.R. Tolkien's source material, Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo) locked lips in "Doomed To Die." Were these Elven comrades simply unable to contain their feelings any longer, giving in to their passionate desire for one another?
Not exactly.
The kiss was actually a strategic play on Elrond's part, as he was able to slip the captured Galadriel a cloak pin that she would later use to free herself from Adar. While some fans enjoyed this moment and are even "shipping" the characters, a lot of others...

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 stunt coordinator and second unit director Vic Armstrong explains Morfydd Clark's Galadriel evolution. Returning for its sophomore outing last month, Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings series, which hails from creators Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, continues to put Galadriel front and center in the action. In The Rings of Power season 2, Galadriel's quest against Sauron rages once more from season 1, and the Elven warrior remains a major force for change in Middle-earth, both on the battlefield and off.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Armstrong touches on how Clark's Galadriel has changed in The Rings of Power season 2, revealing some of the behind-the-scenes filming details. Armstrong shares immense praise for Clark and her physicality as a performer, as well as her positive attitude towards stunts and doing her own action sequences, particularly when it comes to horse riding.

Shortly before “The Rings of Power” Season 2 debuted, there was a short-lived Twitter tiff over whether fans should care how much money Amazon spends on its “Lord of the Rings” prequel series. On one side, there were fans happy to take their entertainment at face value: “It’s TV! It’s meant to be fun! If a trillion-dollar shopping giant wants to cough up half a bill on the boss’ favorite fantasy franchise, then who are we to complain? And if you don’t like it, don’t watch it — there are other shows, you know.”
Fair points, to be sure, but the opposition argument focused on the bigger picture: “Think of all the other shows Amazon could’ve made with $465 million. Think of all the other artists who could’ve been working on those shows.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power designer Barrie Gower recently explained why Sauron's Elven form looks different from other Elves on the show. In the second season of the Prime Video series, Sauron disguises as Annatar (Charles Vickers), the Lord of Gifts and self-proclaimed emissary from the god-like Valar, to deceive the Elven smith Celebrimbor into crafting the remaining rings of power.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Gower discussed why it was necessary to differentiate Annatar from the other Elves in Middle-earth. This article from the Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022) Season 2 Episode 6 contains significant spoilers.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s sixth episode marks the beginning of a spectacular three-episode run known as the Siege of Eregion, a monumental achievement. The risks are accurate, the action is thrilling, and the characters are begging to test the depths of their resiliency.
However, beyond the great siege, there are plenty of other things to discuss and analyze in The Rings of Power—for instance, the mutual understanding between Adar and Galadriel, Queen Miriel’s sea trial, and how Sauron keeps Celebrimbor in the dark about what’s happening in Eregion.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power may go further back in Middle-earth's history than other stories, but even so, there is bad blood between the Elves and the Dwarves. The two races have a well-documented rivalry throughout J.R.R. Tolkien's writing and every story based on his work. While there are notable exceptions, including the friendships between Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and Durin (Owain Arthur) in The Rings of Power and Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) in The Lord of the Rings, most don't get along. The Rings of Power shows this in the conflict between them, with Durin III (Peter Mullan) refusing to help the Elves and Prince Durin hilariously deceiving a group of Elves into gifting him a new table to prevent offense as they attempt to earn his goodwill. However, the animosity between these two societies has a long history.
