‘Phi and Me’.
Screen Australia has provided almost $800,000 in production funding for five online projects, featuring talent such as Mark Grentell, Enzo Tedeschi, Rosie Lourde, Kristy Best, Geraldine Hickey and Diana Nguyen.
Online investment manager Lee Naimo said: “I’m excited to support such a wide range of original ideas in this slate, including Cloudy River presenting a contemporary perspective on relationships and Lgbtqi+ experiences, and Deadhouse Dark breaking the mould with a series of online horror films.”
“We have been impressed by the quality of the applications coming through and have started to see teams coming with fully formed pilots and very clear plans for producing and marketing their work. Creators are becoming very aware of their audience, with some teams leveraging their existing online fanbases or transferring audiences from live acts to screen projects. This innovation is evident in finance plans too, where we are seeing much more...

Screen Australia backed four short-form comedies and one drama with close to $500,000 in its most recent online production funding round.
Four of the creative teams are to receive Screen Australia funding for the first time, including producers Karen Colston and Robbie Miles who will create the six-part parody Sarah’s Channel for ABC iview. Claudia O’Doherty (Trainwreck, Love) will star as a beauty vlogger Sarah who discovers she’s been reanimated after an apocalypse. Live performer and theatre playwright Nick Coyle will make the jump to screen to write and direct.
“I’m thrilled (and surprised) that my idea of a Beauty Vlogger uploading videos in a post-apocalyptic world has been green-lit, and excited to be collaborating with such a fantastic team to bring it to life,” said Coyle. “There is so much comedy to mine in the online influencer world,...

Kristy Best has appeared in 'Neighbours', 'Airlock', 'Teenage Kicks' and the upcoming 'Dance Academy' feature..
The biggest issue facing the Australian film or TV industry is: Time, opportunity and money for experimentation.
Best movie quote of all time: "You stop telling lies about me, I'll stop telling the truth about you". It's from Money Never Sleeps.—.don't judge me.
Do you Google yourself? Yes, mainly to see what nationality people think I am this week.
If you could live inside one of your shows, would you? Which one? I made a short some years ago called Something Fishy. I would live in that world in a second, regardless of how macabre it is.
Classics I would like to remake: American Psycho with an all-female cast.
Favourite comedy film/show of all time: Nothing has made me laugh more than the Danish black comedy Adam's Apples.
