Yesterday, news broke that ‘Silk: Spider Society’ won’t be moving forward at Amazon. The execs instead decided to focus on a different show, the one revolving around Spider-Man Noir, starring Nicholas Cage.
The reasons for cancelation aren’t exactly clear, with some reasons pointing in the direction of the show having a difficult time with the script, going through at least three versions.
The second reason might be because the show was female-oriented, staring female superhero in the main role, and as we all know those types of projects are struggling in recent times, due to several reasons but mostly due to a lack of female support, if we’re going by the audience numbers.
Now MCU’s Sim Liu, better known as Shang-Chi sent a heartfelt message to fans. The actor says that he is gutted that the show is not moving forward and asks fans to advocate for the show,...

Yesterday, it was announced that ‘Silk: Spider Society’ will not be moving forward at Amazon. Instead, the executives have chosen to focus on a different show centered around Spider-Man Noir, starring Nicholas Cage.
The exact reasons for the cancellation are unclear, but it appears that the show struggled with its script, going through at least three versions.
The second factor could be attributed to the show’s focus on a female superhero in the lead role. Unfortunately, projects of this nature have faced challenges in recent times, likely due to a variety of factors, including a perceived lack of support from female audiences, as indicated by viewership numbers.
Now, MCU’s Simu Liu, renowned as Shang-Chi, has shared a heartfelt message with fans. Expressing his disappointment that the show will not proceed, he urges fans to rally behind it, even though the chances of revival seem slim at best.

A few days ago, the confirmation that ‘Spider-Man Noir’ show starring Nicholas Cage is moving forward, came. As the studio is reviewing its projects in development, one notable show involving the Spider-Man character however was canceled.
In June 2018, Sony and Amy Pascal initiated development on a film centered around Cindy Moon / Silk, a character portrayed by Tiffany Espensen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This film would be distinct from Silk’s appearance in Sony’s animated Spider-Women project.
By late 2019, Silk was considered a strong candidate for a television series, leading to the start of development for the series version, with Pascal remaining as producer. Lauren Moon began writing and developing the series in September 2020. In November 2022, the series was titled “Silk: Spider Society,” with Angela Kang joining to redevelop the series and serve as its showrunner and executive producer alongside Pascal, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller.

Recently, news surfaced confirming the progression of the ‘Spider-Man Noir’ series featuring Nicholas Cage. However, amidst the studio’s review of its development projects, one notable show revolving around the Spider-Man character was axed.

Silk: Spider Society, the Sony Pictures series that had Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) on board as executive producers, is no longer moving forward on Prime Video.
The announcement comes just days after Amazon confirmed that the Sony-produced Spider-Man Noir show starring Nicolas Cage is officially in development. No official reason for Silk being scrapped was provided, but Deadline has heard that the decision "likely lies in the show’s tortured development history."
Apparently, the project went through at least three versions, one of which "involved a request for Angela Kang and her writing team to reconfigure the show so it is not hanging so heavily on the central character of Silk."
Former The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang was brought on to oversee Silk: Spider Society, which was marketed as "the first in an expected slate of Marvel TV series based on the Sony...

After recent news of Silk: Spider Society's development, new fan art imagines To All the Boys star Lana Condor as the titular hero. Created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, the character of Cindy Moon/Silk was first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man comics in 2014 and is known for having powers comparable to Peter Parker's. Cindy Moon briefly appeared in both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War, though only as a classmate, and was portrayed by Tiffany Espensen. While there has been no confirmation regarding the casting of Moon in Silk: Spider Society, fans of Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man Universe have already begun making picks. In addition to starring in Netflix's popular To All the Boys films, Condor is also known for her work in Alita: Battle Angel and X-Men: Apocalypse, where she played Jubilee.

Word first arrived in September that Sony was looking to further develop opportunities for the large amount of Marvel characters to which it owns the rights. There is now a distribution deal in place, with Amazon picking up global rights to any potential shows.
First out of the gate will be Silk: Spider Society, which will follow the adventures of Cindy Moon, a character created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos.
A Korean-American classmate of Peter Parker’s, she was first introduced in the comic books in The Amazing Spider-Man #1 in 2014. Like Parker, she is bitten by a radioactive spider, which gives her the ability to move at incredible speed, shoot webs out of her fingertips, and possess an advanced Spider-Sense (known as Silk Sense). Tiffany Espensen played the character in [Spider-Man: Homecoming](Spider-Man: Homecoming), though not the superhero version.

A slew of Marvel characters are heading to the small screen after MGM+, the linear network formerly known as Epix, and Amazon Prime Video ordered a suite of live-action series from Sony Pictures Television.
Spider-Man spinoff series Silk: Spider Society, which has been in the works for some time, will be the first show to emerge from the pact with The Walking Dead’s Angela Kang set as showrunner.
The deal is a culmination of a complex web of rights that meant the series will have to debut first on a linear network, in this case MGM+, which is set to be relaunched with its new name in January. MGM+ will have the first window in the U.S. and the series will then air on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service in the States. Internationally, the series will also air on the Amazon streamer in 240 countries and territories.

A live-action series based on the Marvel Comics character Silk is in development at Sony Pictures TV, with Amazon in talks to acquire the streaming rights, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.
A live-action Silk series would be under Sony’s ownership of all Spider-Man universe characters and would be executive produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The duo signed a nine-figure overall deal with Sony TV last year, which was supposed to include a suite of new TV series based on Sony’s Marvel Universe. Silk is set to be part of a larger roster of characters, similar to Netflix’s “Defenders” franchise that included Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Lauren Moon (“Atypical”) is in talks to write.

Sony’s long-in-the-works “suite” of TV series based on Marvel characters controlled by the studio is getting closer to reality.
I hear Sony is in talks with Amazon to be the SVOD distributor of the high-profile package of shows, which includes multiple titles. The first, which was identified by Sony Pictures TV about a year ago and had been in development at the studio, is Silk. Lauren Moon, a writer on Sony TV’s Netflix series Atypical, wrote the TV adaptation based on the Korean-American comic book superhero, created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos. Silk would mark one of the first comic book series led by an Asian-American character.
Sources close to the situation cautioned that the complex talks are still in early stages and there are major issues that need to be resolved. Some of them have to do with a complicated web of multi-platform rights for the various characters.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are executive producing under their Lord Miller production banner along with former Sony Pictures Entertainment head Amy Pascal. Sony Pictures Television, where Lord Miller is under a rich overall deal, will produce. No network or streaming service is currently attached, but sources say Amazon is in talks to acquire the project, along with other potential Marvel series based on characters Sony controls.

Sony is reportedly developing a new Spider-Man universe spin-off with Silk. Amy Pascal will serve as the producer for the project. Silk, aka Cindy Moon, is a Korean-American heroine who first made her appearance in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man vol. 3 #1, and has been a fan favorite ever since. The character was created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos. Silk will be a part of the Spider-Man universe along with Venom, Silver and Black, Nightwatch, and Morbius the Living Vampire.
There has been a lot of speculation as to whether or not Tiffany Espensen from Spider-Man: Homecoming is Cindy Moon, aka Silk. On iMDB and other sources, she is simply labeled as Cindy, with no last name. She is also listed in the cast of Infinity War as well, but she may have been cut out at the last minute, or she could possibly be on the bus when Thanos' Q-Ship lands in New York.

A movie is in the works based on the Marvel comic “Silk,” which centers on Korean-American superheroine Cindy Moon.
Sony Pictures and producer Amy Pascal are developing the film based on a character that first appeared in “The Amazing Spider-Man #1” in 2014 — created by writer Dan Slott and artist Humberto Ramos. She’s part of the basic Peter Parker storyline about a demonstration on the use of radioactive rays at a science exhibit gone wrong. A spider is exposed to large amounts of radiation and bites Parker — giving him the power to become Spider-Man.
Moon, a student in Parker’s class, is also bitten by the radioactive spider around the same time and gains the ability to move at incredible speed, shoot webs out of her fingertips, and possess an advanced Spider-Sense (known as Silk Sense). Tiffany Espensen played the character in last year’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” which Pascal produced with Marvel topper Kevin Feige.

Sony and Spider-Man: Homecoming producer Amy Pascal are set to develop a movie about relatively new Marvel Comics superhero Silk (aka Cindy Moon), according to Deadline.
First appearing in Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 #1 by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, Moon was bitten by the same radioactive spider that gave Peter Parker his powers (it bit him on the hand before falling onto her ankle and biting her). But while Peter went on to battle evil as everyone’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Moon ended up being captured by a guy named Ezekiel Sims and stayed in an underground bunker for 13 years, only to emerge much to Parker’s surprise.
So, she’s basically Kimmy Schmidt but also Spider-Man. I’m sold! As far as her powers go, she’s not quite an exact copy of Spidey, as she can shoot webs out of her finger-tips, possesses an eidetic memory and has a...

Sony and producer Amy Pascal are in early development on a movie adaptation of the Marvel comic Silk, about Korean-American superheroine Cindy Moon, which was created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos.
In the comics, Cindy is a student in Peter Parker’s class who also is bitten by a radioactive spider around the same time as Peter. She gains abilities similar to his, though she is able to shoot webs out of her fingertips, possesses an eidetic memory, and has advanced Spider-Sense (known as Silk Sense) far stronger than Peter’s. She also has less superhuman strength than him but is faster.
While this project will mark the first stand-alone feature for Cindy Moon, it wouldn’t be the first time she appears in the McU. The character was seen in Pascal-produced Spider-Man: Homecoming (played by Tiffany Espensen) as a member of the decathlon team along with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.

Avengers: Infinity War finished shooting over the summer and it's already set to be the biggest superhero cast in history, but did IMDb just leak yet another character to show up in the fight against Thanos? Avengers 4 is currently filming in Atlanta, but why would there be an addition to the IMDb page for Infinity War? It seemed suspect at first because users can go in and edit the popular site, but the rumor has started to pick up traction since the official Twitter account for IMDb announced the news.

We’ve known for a long time now that Avengers: Infinity War would feature a whopping 67 significant characters, but apparently, the movie still has room for one more hero from Marvel’s back catalogue. That’s because new evidence suggests that another web-slinging ally of Spider-Man’s will put in an appearance at some point.
This rumor gained traction after IMDb’s Twitter account shared a run-through of Tiffany Espensen’s filmography, which revealed that her credits had been updated with an appearance in Infinity War. Fans might remember that the young actress previously appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming as one of Peter Parker’s classmates. She was listed as playing Cindy, a name which caught the attention of comic book readers.
In recent time, it’s been revealed that Peter’s former classmate Cindy Moon was also bitten by the same spider that got Peter, leaving her with similar powers.

There are plenty of bit players in Spider-Man: Homecoming whose names will be familiar to comic book fans -- the Tinkerer, the Shocker and could Tiffany Espensen's Cindy eventually be revealed as Cindy Moon aka Silk? One of the most significant inclusions, though, is Aaron Davis (Donald Glover), a low-level criminal who appears only briefly in the movie.

It centered on the identity of Zendaya’s character in Homecoming, with said report appearing to confirm that the singer-songstress is actually playing Mary ‘Mj’ Watson in Marvel’s reboot, as opposed to the role of Michelle Gonzales that many had assumed. Without her signature red hair and pale complexion, a vocal minority took umbrage with the as-yet-unconfirmed casting.

During an interview at Comic-Con, Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts confirmed four character names. The filmmaker revealed that Tony Revolori is playing Flash, presumably Flash Thompson, with female lead Zendaya playing a character named Michelle, rumored to be Michelle Garcia, Laura Harrier as Liz, believed to be Liz Allan and Jacob Batalon as Ned, rumored to be Ned Leeds. Unfortunately, aside from those characters, and Tom Holland's Peter Parker, Marisa Tomei's Aunt May and Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark/Iron Man, we don't know any of the other characters, but now a full cast list with all of the characters has been leaked. There may be potential Spoilers so read on at your own risk.
The cast list first surfaced on the Twitter account dubbed Atlanta Filming, but it was quickly removed, although it has surfaced in various other places since then. Of course, we don't know...

The eagle-eyes of Reddit have unearthed a casting docket that appears to confirm Bokeem Woodbine as The Shocker in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
First spotted by CBM, the report caps off a busy week for Jon Watts’ standalone pic, after the first official poster swung onto the interwebs follows swiftly by a secondary report that claimed to reveal Zendaya’s true role in Homecoming. Still no confirmation to report on that front, though this alleged casting docket does present some food for thought.
More News From The Web
Without doubt, the biggest takeaway is that of Bokeem Woodbine being linked with the part of Herman Schultz (Aka The Shocker). Elsewhere on the docket, Selenis Leyva appears to be playing a Ms. Warren, while Martin Starr and Hannibal Buress are seemingly attached to the roles of Mr. Harrington and Coach Wilson, respectively. Tunde Adebimpe, meanwhile, has been linked to the part of Mr.

Casting on Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming continues to toss up one surprise after another – and that’s even considering that Jon Watts’ redo is in active production.
Adding to an already massive ensemble that features everyone from Community star Donald Glover to Zendaya, Deadline now reports that Martha Kelly has joined Homecoming in an undisclosed role.

In related news, Cbm has clocked eyes on a set video that sees Tom Holland’s webcrawler behind the wheel of an Audi Tt. Could it belong to a certain genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist?

In hindsight, Marvel Studios’ presence at San Diego Comic-Con may not have heralded as much new footage as that of Warner Bros. – Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, King Arthur and even Justice League each enjoyed their time in the limelight – but after confirming Brie Larson as Captain Marvel and unveiling a fresh look at Benedict Cumberbatch’s good doctor, there’s still plenty for fans to chew over.

Despite the initial back-and-forth surrounding Michael Keaton’s involvement, concept art emerging from Sdcc yesterday confirmed that, yes, the Oscar-winning star is attached to the villainous role of Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. But he won’t be the only big bad to give Tom Holland’s wet-behind-the-ears Spidey a run for his money.
At least, that’s according to a report from the Diamond Select Toys Minimates’ Panel (via Cbm), claiming that one panelist may have accidentally revealed the identity of two new enemies that are bound for Jon Watts’ 2017 reboot.

At the time of going to press, neither Sony nor Marvel offered to comment on the allegations, but should they hold true, Peter Parker will be going toe-to-toe with both Tinkerer and Shocker in little under a year’s time.

Last week, the Powers That Be over at Marvel sounded the klaxon to indicate that Spider-Man: Homecoming, Jon Watts’ fresh-faced reboot that places Tom Holland in the role of the webcrawler, is exactly one year from release.

It's only been a few weeks since filming began on Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming, and already we've seen a number of set photos as production continues in Atlanta, while several more cast members have been added. Over just the past week, actors such as Abraham Attah, Garcelle Beauvais, Tiffany Espensen and Tyne Daly have signed on, although no details have been given as to who they're playing. Today we have word that the superhero adventure has brought on The Nice Guys star Angourie Rice.
Like most of the new cast members before her, no details were given about which character Angourie Rice is playing, and The Hollywood Reporter doesn't specify if she has already started filming in Atlanta quite yet. While the cast keeps growing and growing, only a few actors' characters have been confirmed, such as Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May.

The cast of Sony and Marvel's "Spider-Man: Homecoming" just keeps on growing with three more names joining the roster - Garcelle Beauvais ("White House Down"), Tiffany Espensen ("Kirby Buckets") and the legendary Tyne Daly ("Cagney and Lacey").

You can go ahead and add two more names to the growing cast of the Sony/Marvel Studios reboot Spider-man: Homecoming. The film, which already features Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., and Zendaya, continues to add players for parts we don't yet know about. In recent weeks, Donald Glover, Martin Starr, Michael Mando, and Tyne Daly have joined the cast of Spider-man: Homecoming. This week, we've got word that Garcelle Beauvais and Tiffany Espensen have entered the fray.
Garcelle Beauvais
Tiffany Espensen
Beauvais is best known for roles in NYPD Blue and The Jamie Foxx Show, while Espensen hails from children's shows like Kirby Buckets and Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventures. As was stated earlier, there's currently no word on who either actress will be playing in Spider-man: Homecoming, though, based on her age, it's probably a safe bet that Espensen goes to high school with Holland's Peter Parker.

Earlier this week, we showed you the first look at the official costume in Spider-Man: Homecoming, with Tom Holland spotted near what appeared to be a construction site. As is the case with most set photos, we don't get too much context of the scene we're looking at, but today we have a report that claims Tom Holland's Peter Parker may be leaving New York City in this highly-anticipated movie. If that wasn't enough, the growing cast has just added three more actors.
A report from Looper, which included the photos from earlier this week, revealed that Tom Holland was shooting two scenes that day, one being a bus scene where kids from his high school are taking a field trip to Washington D.C. The second scene, which is where the photos were taken, follows Spidey running alongside a cement truck and jumping on it. The scenes did feature Tom Holland himself,...

Yes, the Spider-Man: Homecoming casting announcements just keep on coming. To be fair, most big tentpole movies like this feature enormous casts, it’s just that in this instance, even the most minor of supporting roles are being reported on for some reason. The latest additions, Tiffany Espensen and Garcelle Beauvais, were actually spotted in and around the set of the movie already, but Deadline has now confirmed that they’ve joined the production.
The site reckons their specific roles are still under wraps, but based on the photos we’ve seen, it’s safe to assume that Beauvais (NYPD Blue, Wild Wild West) will be playing a faculty member at Peter Parker’s high-school, while Espensen (Monsterville: The Cabinet of Souls) will be a student.
The cast is definitely building impressively – but there’s still no word on who (if anyone) will play J.J. Jameson, who after being...

Does Spider-Man: Homecoming have the biggest cast ever seen in a comic book movie? Probably not, but the trades know that Marvel + Spider-Man = clicks, so they're reporting on every single addition no matter how big or small. While their roles are predictably being kept a secret, Tiffany Espensen and Garcelle Beauvais are the latest actresses to board the highly anticipated (and extremely busy) reboot. Espensen is a relative unknown who currently stars in Disney Xd's Kirby Buckets. She also appeared in Monsterville: The Cabinet of Souls. Beauvais meanwhile is best known for roles in The Jamie Foxx Show and NYPD Blue. Other big and small screen credits include Franklin & Bash and White House Down. As great as all these casting additions may be, the one that the vast majority of fans want to see still hasn't happened, and that's someone to play J. Jonah Jameson. At this stage, it's unclear...

Singer Cody Simpson, at just 15 years of age, is already drawing comparisons to another young superstar, Justin Bieber. He was discovered in 2009 after his YouTube videos went viral, and released his first single in 2010. The Australian vocalist was also asked to remake the classic song "I Want Candy" by The Strangeloves as the theme song for Universal Pictures' Easter comedy Hop, which debuts on Blu-ray and DVD March 23. Cody Simpson is also showcased on the Hop Blu-ray bonus features in All Access with Cody Simpson, which follows him during his first red carpet experience at the premiere of Hop last year. I recently had the chance to speak with Cody Simpson over the phone, and here's what he had to say.

Admittedly, Russell Brand is an acquired taste, and if that taste is slowly turning sour in the mouth after endless media reports about the Brand marriage and rising Brand transatlantic stardom, you would be forgiven for releasing a disparaging groan at the mere mention of Hop – a film voiced by Brand. Much as this thought first curled the toes, the comedian actually tones down his (often) X-rated banter to bring as much heart, spirit and soul to little E.B., the Easter Bunny-in-waiting that it’s hard to wipe the silly smile off your face and grumble. And parents can breathe a sigh of relief, too – their little darlings will...

Weekend Box Office
Fast Five $83.6 millionRio $14.4 millionMadea's Big Happy Family $10 millionWater for Elephants $9.1 millionProm $5 millionHoodwinked Too! Hood Vs. Evil $4.1 millionSoul Surfer $4.1 millionInsidious $2.8 millionHop $2.2 millionScream 4 $2.1 million
It's been a boffo weekend for Fast Five. This big budget car sequel seems to have welcomed the summer blockbuster season into the box office. It managed to crank out a spectacular $83 million. Add in international takes and it's grossed $165 million. This is particularly impressive because this surprisingly well-reviewed crowd-pleaser has managed to top the previous entry in the series which made $71 million on opening weekend.
In other news, Rich Ross of Disney is no doubt tucking his tail between his legs after his first attempt at creating a new franchise bombed big time. Prom was an utter disaster. They had predicted a $9 million opening but instead the tween film debuted to a very disappointing $5 million. It seems this won't be getting the High School Musical...

Weekend Box Office
Rio $26.8 millionMadea's Big Happy Family $26 millionWater for Elephants $17.5 millionHop $12 millionScream 4 $7 millionAfrican Cats $6 millionSoul Surfer $5.5 millionInsidious $5 millionHanna $5 millionSource Code $4.8 million
It was another winning weekend for the movie industry with box office receipts up an estimated 34% from this time last year making everyone hope the 2011 slump is over. Rain in much of the country no doubt helped encourage moviegoers to buy a ticket and stay indoors.
You can't keep a good bird down evidently. Rio was the champ for the second weekend running. It's $26.5 million haul was enough to beat out Madea's Big Happy Family that opened to a robust $26 million. However, Tyler Perry's sixth cross-dressing film performed under expectations. Many had been projecting a $30 million opening weekend but it wasn't able to pull that off. The last two movies featuring his popular Madea character had opened at $41 million and $30 million. Are audiences getting tired of Madea?...
