As one of the premier metal bands of the 21st century, it only makes sense that Mastodon are diving head first into … the pickle business. That’s right, the Atlanta foursome are selling pickles, with each band member getting his own flavor.
Ahead of their co-headlining summer North American tour with Lamb of God (pick up tickets here), Mastodon have partnered with Atlanta-based Kelly’s Death Pickles for a line of vinegar-soaked cucumbers that reflect each member’s personality.

Their self-titled debut album was released on CD via the ShutEye imprint in 1998 (and subsequently reissued on vinyl by Volcom in 2012), and the single “Black Grass” was released in 2001. Eventually, Hinds enlisted Mastodon bandmate Brann Dailor on drums for another self-titled effort in 2017 — considered the proper debut album from the project.

So, How Was Your 2020? is a series in which our favorite entertainers answer our questionnaire about the music, culture, and memorable moments that shaped their year. We’ll be rolling these pieces out throughout December.
Marcus King started off 2020 by releasing El Dorado in January. Produced and co-written with Dan Auerbach, the album solidified King’s place as the most exciting Southern-rock artist in years. “With a gruff, soulful rumble of a voice, a deep love of Muscle Shoals, and a fluid, rapid-fire guitar style that recalls both Duane Allman and Mountain’s Leslie West,...

Mastodon‘s Brent Hinds is selling off items from his personal instrument collection – guitars, organs and more used in the recording of the heavy metal band’s albums – through Reverb.com.
“There comes a time in your life when you have to get rid of everything and for me, that time is now,” Hinds said in a statement of the sale. “The music gear I’m selling in my Reverb shop is legitimate shit. All of it was heavily used—all over the world on tour, in the studio, and beyond.

Mastodon gave a devastating performance of "Show Yourself" on Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday. Drummer Brann Dailor and bassist Troy Sanders delivered a thunderous dual vocal performance over Brent Hinds' searing guitar solo.
"Show Yourself" appears on Mastodon's new LP, Emperor of Sand, a concept record that explores life, death, time, illness and doom through the story of a man who is handed a death sentence from a desert ruler and then wanders an arid wasteland.
However, "Show Yourself" has served as a respite of sorts from the album's heavy and personal subject matter.

Mastodon rocker Bill Kelliher fell asleep while filming his cameo for 'Game of Thrones'. The guitarist has revealed he was so exhausted that he dozed off after being told to ''play dead'' when he and his bandmates Brent Hinds, Troy Sanders, Brann Dailor and Eric Saner filmed their guest slot for the HBO medieval fantasy drama. He said: ''There was a lot of playing dead which contrary to popular belief is not that easy to do. I actually fell asleep, laying down on the ground with my battle axe by the water because I was so jet-lagged.'' Bill spoke about how he and...

Winter is almost coming to Westeros as the fifth season of Game of Thrones draws near, but before George R.R. Martin's fantasy series returns on April 12th, HBO will drop the second volume of their Catch the Throne: The Mixtape, a mix of hip-hop and heavy metal tracks inspired by the show. The first cut off the compilation was Talib Kweli's "Lord of the Light," and today Mastodon premiered their Throne track "White Walker," an ode to the terrifying frostbitten undead that sulk beyond the Wall.

Mastodon has shown two very different sides with the two song releases thus far for forthcoming album "Once More 'Round the Sun." There's the more melodic, mass consumer bent on "High Road," and then there's today's "Chimes at Midnight." The latter chomps a bit deeper, hits a bit heavier, and is representative of how fans may see this album meander more than their used to. This is not a bad thing. The most progressive sounds from the metal band have been exorcised on "Crack the Skye," their more bounding, commercial licks like on the "Jonah Hex" soundtrack and on 2011's "The Hunter." After a couple listens to "Once More..." there is just an expanse that even veers into (dare I say it?) glam. All the while, Brent Hinds' voice is in snarling, excellent form and drummer Brann Dailor is still a godd*mned monster. Veteran producer Nick Raskulinecz -- yup,...

It seems a tad bit ridiculous that one of the most naturally talented musicians of my generation, Justin Timberlake, has not released an album in nearly six years (his last being ‘06’s FutureSex/ LoveSounds, of course). The guy is missing out on what would be the prime of his music career. With that said, there’s got to be something to this acting business that keeps driving musicians – rockers and rappers alike – to the medium.
Timberlake’s undeniable good looks and wealth of talent help make him a perfect candidate for a career in film career, but there are plenty of other rockers who we feel would be right at home on the silver screen.
Here are the six rock musicians that we want to see take up the acting game the most.

Feist released today the artwork for her split with Mastodon, which is titled Feistodon. The single is set for a Record Store Day release on April 21. The artwork was released today through a post on Spin and features Feist's image mashed together with an illustrated "Black Tongue" (the same title of the Mastodon track Feist is covering for the seven-inch single) and guitarist Brent Hinds' easily recognizable tattooed hairline.

Brent Hinds, frontman and lead guitarist for Mastodon, has reached the inevitable point in the evening when his speech starts to slur. A few hours back, during a listening session for his Atlanta metal band’s epic new album, Crack the Skye, he polished off at least six Budweiser tallboys; here at a clubby midtown Manhattan steakhouse, where his tribal forehead tattoo and reddish lumberjack’s beard are comically out of place, he’s deep into a procession of Jack-and-gingers. He’s cracking some increasingly nasty but harmless jokes about...
