A decade ago, director David Bruckner made a valiant attempt to get a new Friday the 13th film into production… it just didn’t happen. Years later, he did manage to reboot the Hellraiser franchise, with his version of Hellraiser getting released through the Hulu streaming service back in October of 2022. Surprisingly, a year and a half has gone by since that release and we haven’t heard anything about the possibility of a follow-up – until now. During a chat with ComicBook.com, producer Keith Levine confirmed that they are having conversations about making a Hellraiser sequel.

Producer Keith Levine reveals "we are trying to do a follow-up" to the 2022 Hellraiser reboot. Levine admits that a sequel would be "even crazier and even more awesome" than the reimagining. The First Omen, Levine's upcoming horror project, hits theaters on April 5.

Producer Keith Levine still has “such sights to show you." Those famous words were first uttered by Pinhead (Doug Bradley) in the original Hellraiser (1987). 35 years later, actress Jamie Clayton took up the mantle of the terrifying lead Cenobite in the Hellraiser (2022) reboot. And if Levine has his way, a Hellraiser sequel will be “even crazier” than the reimagining. While promoting his upcoming film, The First Omen, Levine revealed that "we are trying to do a follow-up." The producer also teased reboot director David Bruckner's involvement in the "conversations." Levine said in his interview with ComicBook.com:

Exclusive: Taron Egerton crime-thriller She Rides Shotgun quietly got underway last month with supporting cast set as Ana Sophia Heger (Life In Pieces), Rob Yang (Succession), John Carroll Lynch (Mindhunter), Odessa A’zion (Fresh Kills) and David Lyons (Truth Be Told).

Based on the novel by Jordan Harper and directed by Nick Rowland (Calm With Horses), pic is written by Harper with revisions by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (The Night House) and Rowland. Filming is expected to wrap later this month.

At the beginning of every filmmaking process, artists from across the industry will come up with an initial round of sketches, mockups, and designs for what every character in the film should look like. This is usually an explosion of creativity, one that can be difficult to fully rein in. There are so many incredibly talented artists with so many fun ideas to play with. However, in the end, everything gets whittled down and one design moves forward.

In the boundlessly creative genre that is horror, every character possesses its own charms that, ultimately, we wouldn't trade for anything. However, it's always fun to see just how many different versions exist of every on-screen horror villain. Alternate designs and pieces of rejected concept art have never been more accessible in the age of the internet, whether in an artist's virtual portfolio, the pages of fully published art books, or even test footage.

Kingsman lead Taron Egerton is set to become another action star in a new film.

Taron Egerton, best known for his role in the Kingsman series, will star and executive produce a new action film entitled She Rides Shotgun. Egerton will play Nate, and ex-con on the run from the dangerous gang he used to be affiliated with. Nate wants nothing more than to turn a new leaf -- but when his lethal enemies target his family, Nate takes his daughter Polly with him to keep her safe. The story will follow the father-daughter pair as they seek to escape the forces chasing them, and simultaneously bond over the years lost between them.

Ahead of the AFM, Black Bear is launching sales on Fifth Season crime-thriller She Rides Shotgun, which is set to star Golden Globe winner Taron Egerton (Rocketman) in the lead role.

Nick Rowland (Calm With Horses) will direct the screenplay written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (The Night House) based on the work of crime author Jordan Harper, adapted from his novel of the same name, which received the 2018 Edgar Award for Best Debut Novel, with revisions by Rowland.

Fifth Season will fully finance and produce alongside Brad Weston (Queen & Slim) and Collin Creighton (Okja) for Makeready, and Hiro Murai and Nate Matteson (The Bear) for Superfrog. Egerton is also set to serve as executive producer.

Principal photography is eyed for early 2024. The movie has an interim agreement through SAG-AFTRA. Additional casting is underway.

David Bruckner is a successful but still up-and-coming director in the horror industry who first achieved widespread acclaim for the segment “Amateur Night” from the anthology movie V/H/S, which was later adapted into a full-length film. As he first gained notoriety for his short films and segments within horror anthology films before moving on to features, Bruckner is perhaps not known by name, but his work has certainly become well-known in recent years.

Though he gained fame among horror fans relatively early on in his directing career, Bruckner hasn't squandered his talents and has even shown signs that he's ready to move beyond the horror genre soon. From literary adaptation to an original concept to a franchise reboot, the feature-length David Bruckner movies all show that the director is on a clear path to becoming one of the most respected and reliable names within the horror genre.

A few of last year’s most notable horror movies are still without physical media releases, and that’s because they ended up being streaming exclusives. That list includes Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hulu’s Prey, along with Hulu and David Bruckner‘s Hellraiser.

We have no idea at this time whether or not Hellraiser will be released on DVD/Blu-ray here in the United States, but we’ve learned the film is hitting DVD over in the United Kingdom.

The UK DVD release of Hellraiser (2022) arrives on March 27, 2023. As always, you’ll be able to watch the disc here in the States but you’ll need a Region Free DVD player first.

As scary movies continue to rule the fall box office, production/management firm Anonymous Content has partnered with Eat the Cat, the banner run by Nick Antosca, the prolific creator and series showrunner behind The Act and A Friend of the Family, and partner Alex Hedlund, on a new joint venture to make horror and genre films.

With a plan to leverage creative and production resources from both Anonymous and Eat the Cat, the partnership, which is being titled Anonymous Cat, will focus on developing and producing what it calls premium filmmaker-driven fare in the spook space.

Based on the Clive Barker novel The Hellbound Heart, David Bruckner’s Hellraiser (2022) takes the original concepts of addiction, pleasure and pain and molds them for a Gen-z audience. However, the initial ideas get lost in translation, losing all of what makes the 1987 film, starring Doug Bradley, so fresh, fringe and meaningful. The movie starts promising enough, but by the third act, tricks, tropes and story issues pile on, and become too much to bear. Review: The Hellraiser franchise has had to weather a lot of mediocre sequels, nine to be exact, since Clive Barker’s directorial debut unleashed Pinhead upon the cinematic world. Defining the sadomasochistic world of the Cenobites, Barker’s 1987 horror film has ranked as one of the most iconic horror creations of all time. In the decades since, multiple filmmakers have tried to deepen the mythology of the original story by giving us origin stories and alternate realities featuring the puzzle box and demonic entities. None of these films has managed to evoke the sinister feel of the first movie or capitalize on the story’s potential until now.

It’s time someone gave the Hellraiser series a proper relaunch. While it is one of the most long-lasting franchises in modern horror, most fans tend to land on there being two quality films and a handful of others that either have some odd charms or are just flat-out bad. That’s not a knock against the movies themselves or the filmmakers who created the various chapters in this ongoing saga. It’s just acknowledging the fact that this series has been a niche corner of horror for a long time, and it’s finally time that someone put together a brand-new film for a modern audience and for it to get some much-deserved attention again.

It’s not likely that any review, positive or negative, will effect the reception of the latest “Hellraiser,” now the 11th addition to the cult horror franchise. Once certain properties attain cult status, its followers will delight in any offering, even if only to fuss over its ranking in the canon. Based off of Clive Barker’s 1986 novella and originally adapted by Barker in one of the great writer-to-filmmaker transformations, “Hellraiser” belongs to the freaks, punks, and fetishists who saw themselves in the S&m-inspired looks and story of unhinged sexual exploration.

Unfortunately, It’s Disney does “Hellraiser,” which — incidentally — is exactly who paid for this latest iteration the classic.

Shedding the subtitles like a cenobite’s skin, “Hellraiser” is a 2022 rebirth for the franchise, free of all the sexy subversion that got it here in the first place. It’s perfectly entertaining, using Barker’s inventive tropes to tell a solidly gory nightmare,...

Prior to reviewing the new installment in the long-running (35 years!) Hellraiser horror movie franchise, I did my due diligence. I rewatched all 10 prior films, from the acclaimed 1987 original and its 1988 sequel through the ensuing two theatrical and six direct-to-video entries. Throughout the marathon, I took copious notes, careful to track the characters and plot developments through their many permutations.

Sure, I saw the first two films back in the day, and may even possibly have caught 1992’s Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth and 1996’s Hellraiser IV: Bloodline. But by the time the series went straight to home video, I happily bailed out, not being the type to proudly possess a treasure trove of horror movie memorabilia in my basement. So for all you Hellraiser aficionados out there, apologies.

If you aren’t sure what a Cenobite is, David Bruckner, director of the new Hellraiser, has the answer—“It’s an interdimensional Bdsm thing that shoots chains at you from an ancient labyrinth.” It sounds outlandish but is actually astonishingly accurate.

The original Hellraiser (1987), written and directed by Clive Barker, is forever a classic horror hall-of-famer. It centers around a mysterious puzzle box that, when used, summons the Cenobites— a sadistic group of hell dwellers who take pleasure in torturing their unfortunate summoner for eternity. This new Hellraiser film will be the 11th installment of the franchise. “I think a lot of things are going to hit just a little bit different,” says Bruckner. “But you’ll find that most of what you love about Hellraiser is there in the movie, and sometimes in slightly different ways.”

I can see some of you pointing out the "Leprechaun" series, but that would require Warwick Davis' gold-obsessed slasher villain to have one good movie, let alone eight. Before David Bruckner made his solo directorial debut in 2017 with Netflix’s The Ritual, the filmmaker was heavily involved in rebooting Friday the 13th, first as a found footage film and then as a more conventional ‘80s reboot. But Bruckner ultimately left the project and took the indie route, beginning with the well-received Ritual and then the critically acclaimed Rebecca Hall vehicle, The Night House (2020). And now, with his Hellraiser reboot on the brink of release, Bruckner is glad that he took a longer route before directing his first franchise film.

“I wouldn’t have been prepared at the time [to direct Friday the 13th],” Bruckner tells The Hollywood Reporter. “If I’m honest, the world of Hellraiser — the themes that it explores and the visual quality of it — is something that is much more of interest to me. I think I have more on offer where that’s concerned.
