Crime has never not made for popular TV viewing, but in recent years especially, it’s been covered in every which way. There are shows revisiting famous transgressions from more enlightened perspectives, or more playful ones. There are procedurals centering on cops, and limited series delving into the psychologies of the perpetrators. There are crime dramas that double as character studies, as cultural critiques, as meta examinations of the genre itself.
In that landscape, a new one needs something to make itself stand out, be it vivid style, unforgettable performances, a burning sense of purpose or at least an irresistible gimmick. Fox’s anthology series Accused, despite its promising pedigree (it was developed by Howard Gordon of Homeland and 24, and based on an award-winning BBC series by Jimmy McGovern), never manages to find it. The five episodes sent to critics, of a 15-episode season, aren’t so much awful as...

Shudder’s new original series Deadwax is so darn good that parent network AMC might just steal it from them. Written and directed by Graham Reznick, starring Hannah Gross (Mindhunter), Evan Gamble (Hap and Leonard), Chester Rushing (Stranger Things) and Ted Raimi (Ash vs. Evil Dead), and after four episodes watched for review ahead of our interview with Reznick, Deadwax needs to be on your radar. Someone at AMC should grab this one to spool out into a longer format TV drama, as they enjoyed critically acclaimed success with The Terror this past summer. For those who might be unaware, Shudder […]

In 2016, throughout Wisconsin, several clowns were sighted around the state. The figures would appear in alleys or dark spaces, holding black balloons. These sightings were part of the clown roaming craze, which took place throughout the year. Some of these sightings were part of director Adam Krause's publicity stunt, which hoped to draw attention to his horror short "Gags." In 2018, this short film has been developed into a feature film. This title will have its World Premiere at the Cinepocalypse Film Festival, in Chicago, Illinois. The film stars: Lauren Ashley Carter, Tracy Perez (Devil May Call), Aaron Christensen and Evan Gamble. To show in late June, a preview of the feature film Gags is hosted here. The film is an anthology. There are at least four tales, which cover socio-political issues. The short films loosely follow: a reporter, a right wing podcast pundit, a pair of cops and a trio of troublemaking teens.

Venezuelan electronic dance music artist Zardonic may hide his larger-than-life stage presence behind an ominous, demonic mask – but his alter-ego Federico Ágreda has a very high profile in the business, thanks to his unique production skills and the ability to flip just about any genre into his own evil creation. While his original tunes have been remixed by prominent Edm artists and producers like Bare Noize, it's his unique way with the remix that got Zardonic involved in new versions of tracks by rock and pop icons like Nine Inch Nails and Beyonce, dubstep dignitaries Omar Santana & Evan Gamble, and even extreme metallers including Dark Funeral and Gorgoroth. Pick a genre, and Ágreda has probably put his own sinister stamp on it... if not, he will soon. Zardonic's latest release Far Beyond Bass: The Vulgar Remixes is a tight overview of his skill spectrum, and yet another of many collaborations with other artists.
