Franfurt-born Thilo Kuther was founder, CEO and executive producer of Pixomondo, a highly acclaimed international visual effects (VFX) company. It was initially set up in Stuttgart in 2001 as a commercial video and 3d animation facility but soon expanded into handling visual effects for German film and television. Pixomondo came to specialise in supplying visual effects for big budget action, fantasy and sci-fi ventures, such as The Hunger Games (2012), Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning motion picture Hugo (2011), Roland Emmerich's Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013). For the small screen, Kuther's company did significant VFX work on HBO's blockbuster series Westworld (2016) and the seven time VFX Emmy Award-winning Game of Thrones (2011), as well as for Star Trek: Discovery (2017), Carnival Row (2019) and Disney's The Mandalorian (2019). By 2018, Pixomondo had offices in 12 cities worldwide with more than 600 staff. Kuther left his company after it was acquired by Sony Pictures International. He was at that time based in Santa Monica, California.
Kuther died from cancer in Los Angeles on November 29 2022 at the age of 58.
