Isekai is one of the many genres that anime can fall into. Usually, these series follow some sort of wish-fulfillment as characters are transported to another world they have to adapt to. While this has brought forth beloved anime like Sword Art Online and Log Horizon, not every isekai release is a success.
Unfortunately, some isekai anime have high hopes but simply couldn't stick the landing. Perhaps their characters were unlikable, or perhaps the plot was flawed from conception. These anime may have interesting concepts, but they fail in execution. At least there will always be more isekai anime to look forward to.

For most, the world of anime and manga is dominated by shonen series, typically action-focused storyies aimed primarily at a young male demographic (famed hits like Dragon Ball Z and even Death Note included). However, there are also anime and manga aimed at an older demographic, and that category is known as seinen.
So, what is seinen? "Seinen" is media aimed at older males in their late teens and 20s. In general, these series tend to star older protagonists, feature more explicit content, and deal with darker subject matter (though not all have to). While that male audience is the only real requirement to be seinen, the series can be enjoyed by anyone, and contains the variety to do exactly that. Below are ten of the absolute best seinen series available, offering great entry points into this diverse and underappreciated genre.

A good story is filled with unpredictable, hard-hitting twists, and this is especially true for anime. It's a medium known for taking conventional tropes and flipping them upside-down, leading to some of the most shocking plot twists out there. While any show can throw in a twist for shock value, the best use proper build-up that keen fans can spot with a sharp eye.
These anime twists, in particular, are shocking to most viewers, despite having at least some foreshadowing thrown in beforehand or something similar being guessable. A prime example of this is the true origin of Titans in Attack on Titan, as most fans are able to deduce something relatively similar while still being shocked at the exact details.

H.P. Lovecraft's stories have a timeless quality due to the very nature of the horror he was conveying. Lovecraftian horror is about the sense of existential dread humans get when they realize that the universe is a lot bigger than they could ever imagine. It's a form of cosmic horror that focuses on entities so complex and timeless that humans cannot even fathom their natures.
With that sense in mind, Lovecraftian horror is a kind of larger-than-life dread that is not easily replicated in any medium, let alone anime. While not many series even attempt this, some have come closer than others to reminding anime fans that, not only are they not alone, but loneliness would be far less terrifying.
