It was news as usual at U.K. broadcaster ITV’s breakfast show “Good Morning Britain” on Wednesday, as former presenter Piers Morgan stood by his disbelief of Meghan Markle’s statements.
“On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, Ok. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions,” Morgan tweeted on Wednesday, adding a quote by pugnacious former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

John Ferriter, the former powerhouse William Morris Agency Evp/Worldwide Head of Non-Scripted TV and the only Wma board member to vote against the merger with Endeavor, died Thursday, according to sources. He was 59. A former close associate of his shared the news with some of Ferriter’s former colleagues today. We are still trying to confirm cause of death and specific details.
Also a television producer and a singer whose bands The Tearaways and Stingray opened for bands including The Bangles, Rem and Guns & Roses, Ferriter is probably best remembered for his career at Wma, where he spent nearly two decades and rose to the level of executive vice president. He also became a Wma board member, one who was very critical of the merger between Wma and Endeavor that left the latter smaller agency in control, and many of the braintrust of the colossus out, including Wma chief Jim Wiatt.

June 1, 2019 marks the official 10-year anniversary of the William Morris Agency-Endeavor merger. As part of Deadline’s coverage of the milestone, we reached out to John Ferriter, former Wma Evp/Worldwide Head of Non-Scripted TV, who was the only board member in either company who voted against the merger. He was let go from Wme, triggering a $25 million lawsuit against the agency, which was eventually settled. He now runs managing and production company The Alternative, which he launched in 2015.
Here is Ferriter’s first-person account in vivid detail — some of it never before revealed — of the events leading to and immediately following the merger, as well as his take on it 10 years later. He chronicles the internal discord at Wma and the maneuvering by the Endeavor leadership that allowed the storied, 111-year-old agency to be taken over by a scrappy and aggressive upstart. June 1, 2019 marks the official 10-year anniversary of the William Morris Agency-Endeavor merger. It wasn’t a marriage of equals, with 14-year-old Endeavor, then valued at $100 million-plus, joining forces with a Hollywood royalty, the 111-year-old Wma valued at more than twice as much. But, in one of the most shocking Hollywood takeovers, it was Endeavor, with its 80 agents, that came up on top, taking advantage of the existing fractures within Wma leadership to take control of the bigger rival, which boasted more than 300 agents at the time.
“The Wma leadership was totally blindsided; they truly believed that they would be running the combined company,” one insider said. Indeed, Wma was supposed to control five of Wme’s nine board seats versus four for Endeavor, with Wma CEO Jim Wiatt leading Wme as chairman and Wma president Dave Wirtschafter as co-ceo alongside Endeavor toppers Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell.

Lauren Sivan, an on-air reporter for Fox’s Kttv in Los Angeles, says the station sidelined her after she came forward last October to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct.
Sivan told TheWrap in an exclusive interview that she was stunned by her treatment at the station after her bombshell account that Weinstein masturbated into a plant in front of her at a restaurant in New York City in 2007. “I just felt like the station that I put my heart and soul into for seven years just used it as an excuse to get rid of me,” she said.

Ferriter said other outlets didn't waste any time reaching out and Hall's camp is already in “early talks” to reboot the series. "The Arsenio Hall Show," is the syndicated return of the titular host to late-night television. At the TCA press tour on Monday (July 29), Hall -- along with executive producers Neal Kendall and John Ferriter -- presented his new show.
What sort of show will it be?
To say that Arsenio Hall was eager to get going with his new show was an understatement. As the lights came up after the sizzle reel, Hall was already talking about his phone and Twitter. The host-to-be paused only when the official Mc for the panel had to do an introduction.
Hall didn't think that he would need to steal his audience from one or more of the competitor late-night shows. Instead, Arsenio thinks he'll be playing to those who don't already have a show that speaks to them. As Ferriter, one of the executive producers put it: "There are 290 million Americans who don't watch late night.

At a panel for "The Arsenio Hall Show" during press tour, Hall (joined by executive producers Neal Kendall and John Ferriter) seemed eager to let everyone know that, though it's been almost 20 years since he left late night, he's raring to return in the late night format. While a clip of greatest moments from his old series seemed to confirm he may have been out of circulation a little too long (he promised not to bring back the massive shoulder pads from the era, unless audiences want them), he swears he's still a young whippersnapper who loves social media --...

Ryan Seacrest has signed with CAA after 10 years at Wma.
The news comes on the heels of the "American Idol" emcee becoming the highest-paid reality host with a new three-year, $45 million deal to continue his duties on America's top-rated show.
Seacrest did not use an agent in that deal. Instead, he was repped by his attorney Craig Jacobson and Adam Sher, a former Wma agent who once co-represented him with John Ferriter until recently leaving the agency to join Seacrest's production shingle Ryan Seacrest Prods.
Going into the renegotiations for "Idol," Seacrest had informed his long-term reps at Wma, which had just merged with Endeavor to form Wme, that the agency would not commission any future deals for "Idol" or for his lucrative radio deal with Clear Channel.
That was not acceptable to the agency, sources said

The Wma board meeting Tuesday afternoon likely was one of the more tense in the storied history of the 120-year-old agency. That's because the 20-member body has to grapple with the fact that a merger with Endeavor means Wma agents on the combined board likely will total just five or six, to mirror the number that comes from the other side.
Many Wma stalwarts soon will have their noses out of joint and their resumes ready if they aren't on the new team.
Among the strongest contenders to be on a combined board, other than Wma CEO Jim Wiatt and president David Wirtschafter, are COO Irv Weintraub, motion picture head John Fogelman and New York-based literary co-head Jennifer Rudolph Walsh. That could leave a lot of heavyweights standing when the music stops, including reality chieftains Mark Itkin and John Ferriter as well as music maven Peter Grosslight. (Reality and music...

Beverly Drive likely WMA-Endeavor home
Commentary: Chemistry will be key to merger's success
Endeavor and WMA, two of Hollywood's top-tier talent agencies, have all but tied the knot. Now the town is waiting anxiously for them to announce a wedding date.
Discussions between the companies have been taking place for months, but they reached a crescendo in recent weeks. Barring any last-minute glitches, a formal announcement is expected imminently, though neither firm would comment about the merger status during the weekend.
A deal would unite 14-year-old upstart Endeavor with venerable WMA, founded in 1898, and create a powerhouse in the agency world. The combo would realign the entire agenting biz, affecting every player from top dog CAA to the smallest boutique.
"It will be a viable competitor to CAA," said one rival agent, though most observers still concede CAA will remain the town's dominant player.
Although details of the structure...

Fox News anchor out in contract drama
NEW YORK -- One of Fox News Channel's rising stars jumped to CNN on Friday after a lightning-fast turn of events that led Fox News to tell her agent that it wasn't interested in keeping her.
Kiran Chetry, who had been a FNC anchor since 2001, was signed Friday by CNN about an hour after Fox News sent a fax to her agent, John Ferriter, releasing her from her contract that was to expire March 6.
Chetry had had discussions with other networks but seemed closer to reupping with Fox News, sources said. But the negotiations, which lasted more than a month, ran aground late Thursday over a clause that Chetry wanted to include in the contract regarding the future of "Fox & Friends," the channel's morning show.
The source of the dispute seems a matter of interpretation, with Fox News saying that it would have led to them agreeing to fire the current co-host, Gretchen Carlson, and another source saying that it merely asked for written clarification of whether Chetry would become a "Fox & Friends" co-host and when. If that didn't happen by a certain date, then Chetry would have a window to exit her new contract.
"You and your client's unprofessional demand that we include a clause in her new agreement would have been detrimental to other Fox News talent (and) is simply not the way we conduct business," Fox News vp legal and business affairs Dianne Brandi wrote.
