Green had been attached to make her feature directorial debut on a Tomb Raider film starring Alicia Vikander, but that fell apart when MGM lost the rights to the Tomb Raider franchise. So Green has now shifted over to making her feature directorial debut on Sunflower – and she has cast Jurnee Smollett (Birds of Prey) in the lead role.

Turns out the grass is greener up in Cupertino, at least figuratively and literally for Misha Green.

The Lovecraft County creator has signed an overall deal with tech titan Apple to create and develop small screen projects for streamer AppleTV+ worldwide.

The lucrative multi-year agreement for Green comes exactly one week after HBO axed an anticipated second season of the acclaimed Lovecraft Country.

As Green made poignantly clear in a post-cancellation tweet, the sophomore season of the Jurnee Smollett, Jonathan Majors and Michael Kenneth Williams starring horror drama was already significantly planned out. OWN said today it has acquired the series to air beginning Tuesday, January 5 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt. The series, from Sony Pictures Television, will have a revitalized presentation on OWN, with newly filmed episodic introductions by cast members, never-before-seen behind the scenes footage and more, according to the network.

From where I’m sitting, the Marvel TV landscape seems to be in a bit of a transition phase. For the most part, we’d seen various properties based on its comic book universe scattered across Netflix, Hulu, ABC, FX and Freeform in recent years, with a more McU-focused shift coming to Disney Plus. And as you’ve no doubt noticed, the casualties from the old guard have really stacked up.

The cable network has officially canceled the superhero drama series after two seasons.

Deadline first reported the news.

With all the big changes happening at Marvel recently like Kevin Feige being made Chief Creative Officer over the whole universe and Jeph Loeb leaving Marvel TV, it’s not surprising that the series got canceled.

The series last aired in May, though it has an upcoming crossover with Hulu’s “The Runaways” which returns for its third season in December.

Exclusive: Freeform has opted not to renew drama Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger for a third season. The news is not surprising as it comes five months after the second season of the superhero series ended its run on the Disney network. I hear the options on the cast expired this week.

Cloak & Dagger was well received when it first debuted in 2018, earning a second season renewal from Freeform. In its second season, the series’ ratings dropped almost -40% and were on par with another drama series recently canceled by Freeform, Pll: The Perfectionists.

The news comes shortly after Marvel announced a major leadership change, with film topper Kevin Fiege adding oversight of its TV division, among other units. Cloak and Dagger Season 2 ends on a quiet, yet incredibly powerful note: with Tandy and Tyrone holding hands, on a bus, heading out of New Orleans to use their superhero powers to help people elsewhere for a while.

Where is that bus heading?

"Yes, there is a specific place. I can tell you nothing else," showrunner and episode writer Joe Pokaski told Den of Geek during a phone interview prior to the finale's airing.

Our official guess is New York City, where the original comic book versions of Tandy and Tyrone meet as runaways and are injected with an experimental drug that gives them superpowers. (Though we wouldn't say no to Los Angeles, and that Cloak and Dagger/Runaways crossover that feels so damn organic.

Another non-Disney+ Marvel show has bit the dust.

Deadline reports that Freeform has neglected to renew Marvel's Cloak and Dagger for a third season, effectively cancelling the show. Deadline notes that the options on the cast expired last week so it's unlikely that this current iteration of Cloak and Dagger would be revived at Disney+.

More than perhaps any other show in the Marvel universe, Cloak and Dagger is great at consistently and organically dropping lines that casually solidify its connection to the rest of this rich, fictional world.

At the end of last week's episode of Cloak and Dagger Season 2, Tyrone collapsed into Tandy's arms moments after they liberated the girls and women trapped by Andre at the Viking Motel.

Described by showrunner Joe Pokaski as "a Sundance coming-of-age movie in the Marvel universe," Cloak & Dagger is a superhero drama that doesn't waste its time coming up with supernatural threats to the universe.

Instead, it has teen protagonists Tandy (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone (Aubrey Joseph) use their burgeoning superpowers to confront real-world issues like police and corporate corruption, substance use disorder, human trafficking, sexual abuse, and systemic inequalities. The result is a cathartic experience for any superhero fan who finds themself sometimes wishing heroes would stop trying to save the entire universe and stab some local rapists instead.

As much as we’ve heard that all the productions that make up the Marvel Cinematic Universe, be they on the big or small screen, “are all connected,” the truth of the matter is that there are rarely major links between the TV side of things and the movies. I was surprised by how great of a series that Marvel's Cloak & Dagger ended up being. The story and character development of this series is top notch stuff so if you haven't watched it yet, you really need to check it out.

As a fan of the series, I couldn't be more excited to learn that Freeform has renewed the series for a second season! The series will come back with ten new episodes and it will premiere in 2019.

The teen superhero drama will return with a 10-episode second season in spring 2019.

The announcement came during the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel featuring cast members Olivia Holt, Aubrey Joseph, Emma Lahana and Ally Maki, as well as executive producers Joe Pokaski and Jeph Loeb.

“Cloak and Dagger” follows Tandy Bowen (Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Joseph) who are two different kids from very different backgrounds but who find themselves burdened by and awakened to newly discovered superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another.

The series also stars Gloria Reuben, Miles Mussenden, Carl Lundstedt, James Saito, J.D. Evermore and Jaime Zevallos. It is based on comic characters from books of the same name and is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios.

“Cloak and Dagger” premiered in June of this year, accumulating 4.4 million viewers across all platforms, according to the new L+35 ratings.

Freeform is giving Tandy and Tyrone more time to figure out their powers, renewing Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger for a second season.

The announcement was made Friday during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where the cast — Olivia Holt, Aubrey Joseph, Ally Maki and Emma Lahana — assembled to discuss the show’s first season, which concludes on Thursday, Aug. 2 (8/7c).

For one, Roxxon, the sinister corporation that’s been referenced in the likes of Iron Man 2, looks to be an important part of the series. Starring Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph, the series explores the connection between lost super-powered teens Tyrone “Cloak” Johnson and Tandy “Dagger” Bowen. Despite these characters being well-entrenched in the wider Marvel universe in the comics, though, they’ll be kept separate from the rest of the franchise… at least for the moment.

That being said, Cloak & Dagger showrunner Joe Pokaski’s revealed that he’s already spoken with studio execs about some potential future crossovers.
