Recently an article from Giant Freaking Robot popped up that caught my eye. In it, the author talks about a former SyFy series called "Helix". The show was a science fiction horror series and was helmed by legendary writer Ronald D. Moore. The famed sci-fi genius, who made Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica into must-sees was trying his hand at a new genre and its first season went as well as you could hope.

It was your run-of-the-mill zombie story, that featured Star Trek alum Billy Campbell (Thadiun Okona) and famed character actor Hiroyuki Sanada. Kyra Zagorsky, who had a run for a while with various sci-fi and supernatural shows, also co-starred. The show had some heft to its writing, with Steven Maeda, famed X-Files writer. With the actors of high quality and some of the best writers the world of sci-had to see, it looked like the show would be a slam dunk.

Harry tackles a special assignment on CBS’s The Equalizer season five episode three, “Just Fans.” Directed by Darren Grant from a script by Barry O’Brien, episode three is set to air on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at 9pm Et/Pt.

Queen Latifah stars as Robyn McCall, Tory Kittles is Detective Marcus Dante, Adam Goldberg is Harry Keshegian, and Liza Lapira is Melody “Mel” Bayani. Laya DeLeon Hayes plays Delilah and Lorraine Toussaint is Viola “Vi” Marsette.

“Just Fans” Plot: Harry goes undercover in a surprising role to help McCall search for a woman with a secret online persona. Meanwhile, Mel decides to go to therapy and tries her hand at songwriting as a way to heal her trauma.

Netflix is parting ways with two of its freshman dramas.

The streaming service canceled Partner Track and The Imperfects.

Partner Track launched on August 26 but failed to garner much traction.

The series followed Ingrid Yun (Arden Cho), a 1st generation Korean American and the first lawyer in her family, who experiences the trials and tribulations of excelling at the prestigious (but old school) law firm, Parsons Valentine.

Bradley Gibson (Power Book II: Ghost), Alexandra Turshen (Ray Donovan), Dominic Sherwood (Shadowhunters), and Rob Heaps (Good Girls) also starred.

The cast was rounded out by Nolan Gerard Funk (The Flight Attendant), Matthew Rauch (Banshee), and Roby Attal (The Haunting of Bly Manor).

Unfortunately, the series ended on a big cliffhanger, meaning it joins the ranks of Netflix's other one-and-done series that failed to get conclusions.

Also canceled is The Imperfects.

Designated Survivor‘s Italia Ricci is returning to Netflix as star of The Imperfects, a sci-fi drama from writer/executive producer Dennis Heaton (The Order).

Netflix has given a 10-episode straight-to-series order to sci-fi drama The Imperfects, starring Italia Ricci, from The Order‘s Dennis Heaton, Shelley Eriksen and Nomadic Pictures.

Written by Heaton and Eriksen, in The Imperfects, after an experimental gene therapy turns them into monsters, three twenty-somethings band together to hunt down the scientist responsible and force him to make them human again.

Cast also includes Morgan Taylor Campbell (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist), Rhianna Jagpal (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before), Iñaki Godoy (Who Killed Sara?), Rhys Nicholson (RuPaul’s Drag Race Downunder), Celina Martin (Other Kingdom), and Kyra Zagorsky (The 100).

Spoiler Alert: The CW’s Arrow had a major departure from the original cast on this evening’s show.

The superhero show, based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, follows playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) who returns home after five years of being stranded on an island and decides to fight crime as a vigilante hero who uses trick arrows to foil his foes.

On tonight’s show, a major crossroads was reached, as one of the Team Arrow members decided that they had to leave town in order to right some major wrongs.

Thea Queen (Willa Holland), the maternal younger half-sister of Oliver Queen and a member of Team Arrow who goes by the name of Speedy, left the team and the town. Only four of the show’s series regulars from the beginning remain on the show.

Things never seem to get better for Thea on Arrow. She went from a coma, to dealing with her brother's troubles, to Roy's difficult return, to dealing with a threat on her life now. If Team Arrow successfully deals with Athena and her crew, will she finally leave Star City with Roy and a life away from the drama?

With all the breaks occurring this season, Supernatural fans have a valid reason for dubbing this the “Year of Hellatuses,” a term that can be applied to a variety of CW shows. In fact, whenever the aforementioned horror series is forced to endure a hiatus, so too must Arrow, for they’re prime time partners at the moment.

But when Arrow finally does come back in a couple of weeks, expect it to do so with a bang. We say that because not only is Katrina Law returning as Nyssa al Ghul, but she’ll have the mysterious Thanatos Guild hot on her heels. In short, this shadowy cabal is made up by surviving members of the League of Assassins who are in pursuit of a box left behind by Malcolm Merlyn. And, if you were to ask us, seeds for what’s to come in season 7 could very well be planted here,...

Now that we’ve enjoyed appearances made by the likes of Manu Bennett’s Deathstroke and Colton Haynes’ Roy Harper, Arrow aims to check off yet another box when it comes to returning fan favorite guest stars. This time, though, it comes in the form of Katrina Law, who’s turned in some unforgettable performances as Nyssa al Ghul.

Of course, her comeback is doubling satisfying because we and the rest of Team Arrow have been left wondering if she was among those who survived the blast on Lian Yu which occurred in season 5’s finale. Granted, the jury’s still out on her sister Talia, but it’s good to know that at least one of the al Ghul kids made it out alive.

When it comes to why she’s resurfaced in Star City, well, that’s largely due to Athena (played by Kyra Zagorsky) leading a splinter...

If anything has proven to be true on the past few seasons of Arrow, it’s that Oliver Queen’s past likes to come back to haunt him. I mean, not only has he had to contend with the likes of Prometheus and Cayden James, but it appears as though some surviving members of the League of Assassins haven’t forgotten about his prior transgressions.

Having said that, now would be as good of a time as any to say that Kyra Zagorsky (Helix, Supernatural) will soon board the show as Athena, a former member of the League of Assassins. Described by TV Line as “Bearing a scar across her face as an example of her fearlessness and determination, Athena aims to maintain the legacy of Malcolm Merlyn, her fallen commander — and thus sees anyone who was once associated with him as a potential threat.”

Admittedly, this sounds quite ominous...

John Singleton is poised to be the next filmmaker to make the leap to television, as FX has picked up the pilot for Snowfall, a show co-created by Singleton. The press release had this summary of the series.

Los Angeles 1981. A storm is coming and its name is cocaine. Snowfall is a one-hour drama set against the infancy of the crack cocaine epidemic and its ultimate radical impact on the culture as we know it. The story follows three characters on a violent collision course: Franklin Saint, young street entrepreneur on a quest for power; Gustavo Zapata, a Mexican wrestler turned gangster in search of his American dream; and Logan Miller, a prominent family’s “black sheep” desperate to escape his father’s shadow.

The SyFy Network has cancelled “Helix,” a contagion drama starring Billy Campbell and Kyra Zagorsky, TheWrap has learned. The series, which also stars Hiroyuki Sanad and Mark Ghanimé, centers around a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention investigating a potential disease outbreak in the Arctic. Also Read: 2015 TV Season: On-the-Bubble Shows, Renewals and Cancellations (Updating) At its January season two premiere, “Helix” averaged 2.1 million total viewers, with 1 million viewers in the 18-49 demographic most important to advertisers. There may be more than few broken hearted fans out there, as network brass have acknowledged the show’s devout following.

Helix will not live to see a third season.  Syfy has opted to cancel the drama after two seasons, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.  The Sony Pictures Television drama, starring Billy Campbell, hailed from executive producers Steven Maeda and Ron Moore, and finished its sophomore run earlier this month. Last year, Helix did pretty well in the ratings so Syfy renewed it for a second season. Will the ratings rise or fall this time around? Cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.

Syfy's Arctic-set, pandemic-themed, sci-fi/horror series "Helix" became infamous last year for it's sheer craziness. Character and plot curveballs were thrown fast left and right to the point that it didn't make a whole lot of sense - especially towards the end.

The network has now released a new trailer for the show's second season which moves the action to a mysterious tropical island where a science-based cult is falling victim to a disease which Dr. Alan Farragut (Billy Campbell) and his team investigates.

Steven Weber looks to be essentially taking on the Hiroyuki Sanada role this time of the scientist in charge of the isolated locale who isn't letting on as to the extent of his involvement.

How the Ilaria group and the events of the finale tie into this is unknown at this point, but Julia (Kyra Zagorsky), Sarah (Jordan Hayes) and Peter (Neil Napier) are all returning.

By the time Season 1 ended, we were pretty disappointed in Syfy's "Helix," but some casting news for Season 2 has come in along with a few more details of what's ahead for the members of the Cdc so we thought we'd pass it on.

It has been 48 hours since I watched Dans L'ombre, and I intentionally gave myself a cooling off time, before writing this. I can’t hold back any longer, this was a huge rebuff to anyone who was crazy enough to stick with this painfully irrational show.

What was obvious as I was watching it, and confirmed afterwards, was that Helix has a second season, and the writers knew this when they penned an abysmal ending to this one. Having created some narrative and tension about how things would end in the Arctic base, it was all blown up (literally and a narratively) like it’s been obvious it would be from the pilot onwards.

Since the Cdc’s arrival at Arctic Biosystems 13 days ago, a lot has happened, starting from Dr. Walker’s infection and Dr. Boyle’s death to Dr. Jordan gaining immortality and Sergio changing sides. Throughout it all, the members of the facility have been in constant danger, whether from the vectors, Dr. Hatake, or the Ilaria corporation. The situation comes to a head in the season finale as the survivors try to escape from The Scythe and his associates, in a jam-packed conclusion to the season that leaves the show with a lot of promise.

While Dr. Hatake’s murder of Constance Sutton worked in bringing Dr. Walker out of danger, it seemed unlikely at the time that the Ilaria Corporation would let something like this go. This idea only deepened with the revelation that the company’s ex-coo was part of an elite group of Immortals running the company. This week sees Arctic Biosystems suffer the consequences of Sutton’s death, in an exciting episode that adds a new dynamic to the inhabitants of the base while reducing a major threat.

The absence of the Narvik virus during the activities of Day 9, as well as the worsening of Dr. Jordan’s condition, both weighed heavily on the Cdc team as well as Dr. Hatake. Despite the numerous other threats that the group has been exposed to since the Cdc touched down at Arctic Biosystems, the imminent danger of the Narvik virus has been an ever-present concern, making the theft of it worrisome. This week’s episode focuses on Dr. Farragut and Dr. Walker’s attempts to retrieve it, in another compelling outing that reveals more about the central characters and their relationships to each other.
