When talking about South Korean cinema, Bong Joon-ho is usually the first name that comes up in conversation. But for me, Yeon Sang-ho — the man behind Netflix’s Revelations — holds a special place in my heart. Train to Busan remains the best zombie apocalypse film I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching, and its intense and emotional approach to the genre left a lasting impression. Though his filmography is shorter and less widely acclaimed than some of his contemporaries, Sang-ho stands out for his ability to blend social commentary, fast-paced storytelling, a dark and grounded aesthetic, and an impressive fusion of genres, all while delivering emotionally compelling narratives.
