Exclusive: Concussion filmmaker Peter Landesman will adapt and direct Scout Comics’ comic series The Recount into a feature film for Don Handfield’s Motor Content and Jonathan Kadin’s KadinCreative. Nick Jones Jr. will co-write with Landesman.
The fictional political thriller written by U.S. army veteran Jonathan Hedrick, was published by Scout Comics in November last year and is set in an unsettling, yet recognizable American political climate. The material is described as having the political intrigue of House of Cards blended with the horror of The Purge.
In the series, the U.S. President is assassinated by one of his own security detail. A Secret Service agent must then protect the Vice President at all costs from a vast, dangerous conspiracy. With nowhere to turn and no one to trust, these two women with completely opposing beliefs are forced to work together to fight back and preserve what’s left of American democracy.

Amazon’s recent pickup of Sony’s Camila Cabello musical movie Cinderella will hit the streamer this fall in 240 countries.
As Deadline first told you last week, Sony decided to license worldwide (sans China) to Amazon instead of going with a summer theatrical release. Many reasons I heard for the sale, one being the continued closure of Latin American box office markets due the pandemic (except for Mexico), and I heard the streamer was mad for the movie which stars Idina Menzel, Billy Porter, Minnie Driver, Nicholas Galitzine and Pierce Brosnan and was directed by Kay Cannon.

Exclusive: In her feature debut, singer Camila Cabello will be seen fitted for the glass slipper on Amazon Prime. Amazon Studios is closing a deal to acquire worldwide rights to the Kay Cannon-directed musical Cinderella from Sony Pictures.
No premiere date yet, but the film will premiere later this year. Sony Pictures had once dated it for July, but the pandemic and theatrical windows are still uncertain, especially in Europe and Latin America. That triggered a deal that is similar in construct to previous ones the studio has made with streamers on films that include Fatherhood and Vivo. Sony retains China rights.

Cannon wrote the script, and the pic is produced by James Corden (who also plays a role in the film), Leo Pearlman, Jonathan Kadin, and Shannon McIntosh.

Tom Holland’s video game adaptation “Uncharted” has lost “10 Cloverfield Lane” director Dan Trachtenberg, multiple individuals with knowledge of the project tell TheWrap.
Trachtenberg replaced Shawn Levy, who departed due to scheduling conflicts. Sony Pictures is still moving forward with the project and expects to name a replacement soon. In addition to the “Cloverfield” spinoff film, “10 Cloverfield Lane,” Trachtenberg’s credits include “Black Mirror: Playtest” and the pilot of “The Boys” for Amazon.
Holland stars in the action-adventure film based on the PlayStation video game series about the adventures of treasure hunter Nathan Drake. Mark Wahlberg was at one point attached to play the swashbuckling, Indiana Jones-type hero, but Sony opted for a younger take on the character. Dan Trachtenberg, who broke out with “10 Cloverfield Lane,” will direct Sony Pictures’ adaptation of the hit video game “Uncharted.”
Trachtenberg replaces Shawn Levy, who had to depart the project due to scheduling conflicts. Sony has been hoping to work with Trachtenberg since “10 Cloverfield Lane” opened in 2016.
“Uncharted” is based on the PlayStation video game series that follows the adventures of treasure hunter Nathan Drake. The film stars Tom Holland and chronicles Drake’s first encounter with the professional rogue Sullivan. Sony has been trying to get the film off the ground for quite a while, originally going with veteran actors like Mark Wahlberg. After the success of “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” the studio began scouring the development slate to find Holland’s next project and decided a younger Drake character would work out well.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has signed an agreement with Us-based comic book convention producers "Wizard World" to option and develop intellectual properties from creators attending coast-to-coast "Wizard World" conventions:
"We are always looking for new ways to find that next generation," said Jonathan Kadin, Sony's executive vice president. "This deal gives us unique access to the incredible talent that 'Wizard World' can bring to the table, putting us in a prime position to find the stories that break through the clutter..."
"Wizard World" currently produces nine conventions across the Us, including Portland, Chicago and Philadelphia, with plans to expand to Austin, Biloxi and Springfield.
In Canada, Hobbystar Marketing, a local sports and entertainment agency behind 'Toronto Comicon' and 'Fan Expo', filed a lawsuit against Wizard World Inc. in 2012, claiming a misuse of its 'Comicon' trademark name, souring "Wizard World" from staging further conventions in Canada, to the regret of many comic book fans.

Marky Mark Wahlberg has signed up for David O. Russell’s computer game adaptation Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. To be honest, I’m still getting over the mad fact Russell is making a movie based on a videogame. Although he’s proved he knows how to handle an action set-piece or ten with Three Kings.
Wahlberg told MTV that Russell’s idea is ‘off the wall’ and that he’s lined up Bobby De Niro and Joe Pesci to star alongside him:
“I’m obviously in whatever David wants to do, but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It’s not going to be the watered-down version, that’s for sure.”
The movie will be the fourth time the dudes have worked together. It started back in 1999 with Three Kings, took in the existential drama I Heart Huckabees...

The film version of the hit video game Uncharted: Drakes Fortune is moving forward into production with David O. Russell as the films writer and director! We reported on the fact that Russell was on the producers list of possible directors back in May. This news was confirmed by Sony Pictures, and for those of you who don't know, Russell has directed films such as Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees and The Fighter. I liked the two films that I've seen, and The Fighter looks great, so I think Uncharted is in good hands. There's hope the the movie is on the road to a decent adaptation. At least I hope it is, you all know the poor track record video game film adaptations have.

He’s been in the news already once this week after he jumped ship from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies – and now he’s back mounting a video-game adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune for Columbia Pictures. It seems a movie based on a game is appealed more than a ‘literary mash-up’ involving Jane Austen characters fighting zombies.
Holllywood has never been ashamed where it mines its movie material, and games have opened up an entire new universe to plunder. It is quite interesting to see Russell take on such an endeavour. Uncharted and its sequel sold in excess of six million copies, so it’s no slouch.
The director clearly sees something in the material, too, which featuring a treasure hunter named Nick Drake up to his neck in high adventure! Russell is also attached to ‘dramedy’ Old St. Louis starring Vince Vaughn and Chloe Moretz.
Stay tuned for more on this bizarre venture.

David O. Russell has closed a deal to write and direct "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune," an adaptation of the 2007 PlayStation 3 video game, for Columbia Pictures.
Back in May, Russell first flirted with the project, but then moved on to develop a big-screen adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies."
But his quest to direct the PS3 game adaptation pulled him back in, leaving "Zombies," for the moment, undead.
Despite making his somewhat combative reputation with left-of-center indie films such as "Spanking the Monkey," "Flirting With Disaster" and "I Heart Huckabees," Russell appears to be making a serious move into bigger-budget mainstream movies. His next film, the boxing drama "The Fighter" from Paramount, comes out December.
In the mold of epic adventure films like "Tomb Raider" and "Indiana Jones," the "Uncharted" game's storyline follows a descendant of Sir Francis Drake, Nathan Drake, as he searches for the treasure of El Dorado on...
