Taking on a classic is a gutsy move, even for an award-winning filmmaker. And when director Kimberly Peirce signed on to re-imagine Stephen King's horror classic "Carrie," about a teenage girl with telekinetic powers hellbent on revenge, she knew she had some sky-high expectations to meet.

"I'd make a joke and say, 'I didn't give a f*ck,' but of course I felt pressure!" she told us recently while doing press for "Carrie." "But I think pressure is good."

This Halloween will be the first time in five years that a Paranormal Activity movie hasn't been in theaters. If you're missing the demon, Paramount still has you covered with the found footage thriller Ghost Team One, which isn't just packed full of crazy horror, but also serves up some of the funniest jokes seen on screen this year. It perfectly captures the tension and terror of a Paranormal Activity movie. But it also does something that franchise fails to do. It gives us characters we actually care about and a story that isn't completely reliant on the next jump scare.

We're going to say it: Ghost Team One is better than all four of the previous Paranormal Activity movies combined! And we'd much rather see Ghost Team Two at this point than Ghostbusters 3.

The "Paranormal Activity" movies are credited with taking the terror out of art-directed dungeons and dilapidated bathrooms and putting it right smack dab in the middle of our bedrooms. The "Saw" series raised a white flag of surrender after "Paranormal Activity" took most of the Halloween box office dollars in 2009, bringing an end to Jigsaw's legacy and returning us to the land of lo-fi horror.

Since then, the "Paranormal" series has become something of its own "Saw"-sized franchise, with the fourth installment set to hit theaters this Friday. Somewhat unfortunately (though probably inevitably), the more this decades-spanning haunted house tale expands and explains its increasingly silly mythology, the less scary and interesting it becomes — though we have to give props to the producers for maintaining the low-budget, "found footage" aesthetic that the first film incorporated so brilliantly.

I love the .Paranormal Activity. franchise. The first one intrigued me, the second one scared me, and the third made me believe in the potency of the franchise. So I was happy as a clam to interview the directors of the third installment, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.

Paramount Pictures has announced a special single night triple-feature of all three Paranormal Activity films back-to-back, only at Regal Cinemas. The films will be played in chronological order, beginning with the most recent Paranormal Activity 3, followed by Paranormal Activity and finishing with Paranormal Activity 2.

The marketing folks from the Paranormal Activity 3 crew have been busy sending Vcr’s and VHS tapes to horror sites today. Why didn't we get one? Oh well. The VHS tape was labeled September 1988 and contains some creepy VHS footage from the film Paranormal Activity 3. Yes you read correctly VHS tapes; lucky for them they were also sent Vcr's. So far we have found two clips and if we find more we will be sure and share them with you. It was announced earlier this month that Rob Zombie is set to make The Lords of Salem his next directorial feature. The witch-themed horror thriller will start shooting this spring, with Paranormal Activity's Jason Blum, Oren Peli, and Steven Schneider producing.

The Lords of Salem is based on a song from Rob Zombie's 2006 album Educated Horses, and it chronicles four witches from the 1692 Salem witch trial who are secretly burned at the stake, later arriving in present day Massachusetts to seek their revenge.

Rob Zombie was originally going to make the grim biker exploitation drama Rob Zombie's Tyrannosaurus Rex as his next feature after Halloween II. He then toyed around with making a second The Blob remake. But he put both of those on hold for The Lords of Salem.

Paranormal Activity 2's Vivis Cortez talks about playing the maid Martine, Paranormal Activity 3 and more.

When the Paranormal Activity hit theaters in October 2009, it took the country by storm, raking in a massive $104.7 million at the box office, from just a $15,000 budget, making it one of the most profitable studio movies of all time. Just a year later, Paranormal Activity 2 hit theaters and proved this franchise had staying power, taking in an impressive $84.7 million off a slightly-larger $2.75 million budget. Paranormal Activity 2 also introduced us to a new set of characters, one of whom is Martine, portrayed by Vivis Cortez, a housemaid that has experience with supernatural entities.

Paranormal Activity 2 will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on February 8 and I recently had the chance to speak with Vivis Cortez on the phone about her experiences working on the sequel. Here's what she had to say.

“Paranormal Activity,” which was released only 13 months ago on Sept. 25, 2009, has gone down in history as one of the most profitable films of all time based on return on investment. The film had a production budget of $15,000 with a worldwide box-office gross of $193 million. Paramount/DreamWorks acquired the U.S. rights to “Paranormal Activity” for $350,000.

“Paranormal Activity 2,” which has a much larger estimated budget of $2.75 million, is again written by Oren Peli with the addition of Michael R. Perry. This time, though, the sequel is directed by Tod Williams instead of Oren Peli. Katie Featherston reprises her role as Katie in “Paranormal Activity 2” and is the only listed cast member. In an interesting twist of events, Paramount Pictures has authorized a series of overseas sequels based on last year's surprise hit Paranormal Activity. Here, we will get the continuing adventures of the San Diego demon in Paranormal Activity 2, which hits American cinemas on October 22nd. Then, in December of this year, Japan will release its own parallel sequel entitled Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night, which takes place in the same universe as the original Paranormal Activity. The movie is directed by Toshikazu Nagae, and centers around a traveling college student who visits San Diego during the summer and brings this malicious spirit back home with him to Tokyo. The film doesn't currently have a Us release date, but we do have your first look at this terrifying foreign trailer in the clip below:

Shock Til You Drop has posted the full trailer for Paranormal Activity 2: Book Of Shadows and it seems the sequel is upping the ante. The first film featured a single camera capturing the bulk of the activity but this time the entire house is equipped with security cameras that are conveniently labeled based on their location (Nrsry 1, Pool 1, Fmly 1, etc). The body count (if you can call it that) has been increased beyond the mainly two person drama of the first by adding a dog, a baby and a Guatemalan housekeeper to the mix. Here’s hoping that Mark Fredrichs reprises his role as the unhelpful psychic!

This movie's paranormal box-office activity in the Us has raised expectations sky high, but it sets out to do one thing – scare the pants off you – and does that horribly well. Tapping into our primal fear of things going bump in the night, especially while we're asleep, it gives you the shivers with little more than a grainy fixed-camera shot of a bedroom, as a regular guy tries to get to the bottom of his girlfriend's alleged haunting by trying to video their nocturnal disturbances. There's a certain amount of audience investment required. If you go in determined not to be scared, you probably won't be, but if that's the case, why buy a ticket in the first place?

Both hair-raising and chilling, this suburban drama skips genre cliches, to come up with a claustrophobic classic

It has been some time since I physically jumped at a scary movie. Horror has become a predictable genre and these days, maggoty skulls can leap out of wardrobes all they want, and we merely yawn. But in this film, all it took was one bedroom door to move 12 inches, unaided – just that, nothing else – and I felt like leaping into the arms of the person next to me. And there were ­moments when I thought I would not just need to change my trousers, but have them professionally incinerated by a biohazard disposal team.

This ingenious and often genuinely frightening film is a digital mocu-real nightmare, based on the idea of "found" video footage, comparable to The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield, lower in budget and humbler in scale than both – but arguably scarier than either.

For all the hype surrounding Paramount’s little-movie-that-could, Paranormal Activity, expectations are set at a level that could never be reached. It’s the downside of a considerable amount of buzz and positive word-of-mouth. The bar is now set accordingly. For those who have yet to see the film, please do not listen to anymore mentions of this movie until you see it. No trailers, no reviews and, for the love of Pete, don’t use Facebook for you may run into the dread status of “Just saw Paranormal Activity and it…..!”.

Plot: Katie (Featherston) and Micah (Sloat) attempt to document the inhuman haunting that has plagued Katie since she was 13. And for all you fools who don’t imbibe in your weekly Ghost Hunters fix, “inhuman” is the friendlier term for “demonic.”

Who’s It For? Fans of horror, obviously, but anyone who specifically lusts for a good, old-fashioned ghost story—this one’s for you.

Expectations: I don’t have cable right now, so I had no idea. When Bayer called me and asked me to go, I asked “What’s Paranormal Activity?” Bayer promptly responded, a la the valley girl he’s not, “Shut…Up!”

It seems that popular demand is expanding the release of director Oren Peli's Paranormal Activity. In a statement about Paramount Pictures expanding the film Peli said:

I just got some good news from the studio. Because of the high demand it numbers, and the fact that the weekend screenings sold out, Paramount agreed to expand the movie to more cities this weekend. We will be in 20 new cities!
