If you look back at the 'New Who' era of Doctor Who, you'll notice that no Doctor has lasted more than three full seasons. Whether it's David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, or Jodie Whittaker, none stayed with the role more than three complete seasons. Although in the case of David Tennant and Matt Smith, they did both return for a few special appearances.

Doctor Who's Russell T Davies has addressed plans for who will succeed him as showrunner in the future, explaining "conversations" are already underway. Davies served as the original showrunner for the sci-fi series' revival in 2005, overseeing the seasons starring Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor and David Tennant's Tenth Doctor. He returned to his role starting with the 2023 60th anniversary episodes prior to season 14, and retained his role into the upcoming Doctor Who season 15. His return to the series ushered in a new era as well, starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor.
Speaking with Tennant himself on his podcast David Tennant Does a Podcast With… (via Radio Times), Davies confirmed he would not return to Doctor Who "a third time" after his current stint as showrunner. Instead, "conversations" are already happening about who will take up the mantle when he's done, even though he doesn't plan on going anywhere anytime soon.

The charismatic and endearing Aimee Lou Wood is steadily proving herself to be one of Hollywood's most dynamic performers, with the talented actress having first skyrocketed to stardom when she headlined the fan-favorite British teen dramedy Sex Education. Wood has been able to continue showcasing her impressive acting prowess in fellow shows like Alice & Jack and Daddy Issues and movies such as The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, Living, and Seize Them!, and in January 2024 it was announced that she would be joining the star-studded third season of the HBO knockout anthology series The White Lotus.
The delightfully juicy satirical dramedy has further propelled Wood to prominence, as audiences have quickly fallen in love with her bubbly and vivacious character Chelsea, who arrives at the titular Thailand resort with her brooding older boyfriend Rick (Walton Goggins). 2025 has already proven to be a successful year for the actress, as she...

There's something about a good underdog story that audiences can't resist. Written by Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials) and directed by Minkie Spiro, the new Netflix release Toxic Town stars Jodie Whittaker, Aimee Lou Wood, Bridgerton's Claudia Jessie, Robert Carlyle, and Rory Kinnear. It follows the three women and the lawyer who spearheaded a class action suit against a local steel factory that they believe caused deformities in dozens of children born in Corby, England, from 1985 to 1997. It is based on a true story that is both tragic in its cause and triumphant in its effect, bringing an unlikely group of blue-collar working women together to hold the sizable British company responsible.

Stories inspired by true events will always have the potential to hit audiences harder, with the cruel truth behind the shocking drama on screen piercing right through to any empathetic viewer's heart. Because of this, a true-story-inspired series receiving positive initial praise might be more common than many think. However, to receive perfect praise in any capacity is always rare, and something well worth celebrating. This is impressively the case for Netflix's new limited drama, Toxic Town, starring Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker, with the series officially debuting on February 27.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law star Tatiana Maslany is addressing how some fans reacted to the Marvel series, praising her series creator for being able to anticipate it. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law debuted on Disney+ on August 18, 2022, and was a breath of fresh air for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, offering a comedic take on the superhero genre that felt true to the spirit of the beloved She-Hulk comics. Despite being one of the most faithful Marvel Comics adaptations, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law found itself on the receiving end of adverse reactions from fans who acted as if She-Hulk twerking with Megan Thee Stallion was the worst thing to ever happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speaking with Collider's Perri Nemiroff, Maslany was asked about the reaction to She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Although some fans responded very positively to the series, Maslany herself was the target of a great deal of harassment,...

A set of giant Netflix billboards have been erected in the UK today promoting factual drama Toxic Town, but not everyone walking past will be able to see them.
Netflix is attempting to raise awareness of Britain’s poor air quality problem by making some of the billboards harder to view than others, depending on the air quality levels of the city they are in.
“If the air quality is ‘good’ you will see a full poster for the series. If the air quality is ‘poor’, we are sacrificing our billboards to be covered in a cloud of white smoke,” said a Netflix tweet promoting the billboards earlier today. “Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not happening,” added Netflix of the nation’s growing issue of poor air quality.

The latest Netflix hit show, Toxic Town, is an emotional watch. It’ll tug at your feelings in several ways, especially if you have children of your own or young nieces or nephews. For myself, it had an extra edge as I watched the story unfold in this new dramatization.
Let's get down to the basics of the series. Released in late February on Netflix, Toxic Town has a big-name cast list. Jodie Whittaker, Aimee Lee Wood, Claudie Jessie, Brendan Coyle, Rory Kinnear, and Robert Carlyle pick up the lead roles. That's an incredible amount of experience from top dramas and films to bring together here.
The show follows the lives of some families in Corby, a small UK town dealing with the closure of the local steel works. As the major employer in the town, there was huge unemployment to deal with. The council and others worked to reclaim...

Toxic Town is a new limited series that fictionalizes the true story of one of the biggest environmental scandals to occur in the UK, and the subsequent fight for justice. It’s a narrative centered around several women who could be called unlikely warriors: a tight-knit group of mothers who want answers about what has happened to their children — and why.
The women at the heart of the series — Susan McIntyre (Jodie Whittaker), Tracey Taylor (Aimee Lou Wood), and Maggie Mahon (Claudia Jessie) — are fighting a true David and Goliath-style battle as they seek accountability from the Corby Borough Council. It’s no wonder the story has been called a “British Erin Brockovich,” as both the film and the series present dramatized accounts of real legal battles, and hit on common themes of empowerment and fortitude in the face of corruption.
Another thing the series and film share is...

Rumors of Doctor Who's demise have been greatly exaggerated. The British sci-fi series, which initially came from the BBC, has received a boost as of late with a production deal signed with Disney+. Not only would the House of Mouse fund some of the series' filming, but it would also house the popular show on the streaming service worldwide. Fans were keen to see how this might have an impact on Doctor Who, considering budgets would be increased, and the audience would expand. Season 1 of this new era has already aired, alongside two Christmas specials. However, there is still another season to come. Beyond that, the future is uncertain for Doctor Who, as producers engage in the discourse as to what comes next.

Netflix’s latest British miniseries, Toxic Town is centered around the real-life legal battle between the Corby Borough Council and the townsfolk whose children suffered birth deformities due to toxic waste pollution resulting from deliberate neglect and mismanagement by the authorities involved in the steel plant land reclamation. As the makers decide to approach the narrative from the perspective of the victim’s families and the residents of the industrial town, it is important to note that maternal figures gained prominence – the ones who were most affected/ blamed for a predicament beyond their control, as patriarchal society functioned that way, and still does. Aside from this aspect, the series also focuses on the bureaucratic corruption which preys on the socioeconomic vulnerabilities of small townships and ends up ruining the future of upcoming generations in diabolically selfish pursuits.

Toxic Town on Netflix is an intriguing story about a fight between the mothers who live in Corby, England and their town council when it comes to a toxic waste case. It's show full of emotion, resilience, and much more. So is this all based on a true story?
The answer is, yes. Toxic Town is based on a true story. This is unfortunate as it means these parents and children went through the difficult time of the kids being born with missing limbs, compromised immune systems, and other health struggles. And it all could have been avoided. As seen in the series, mothers usually and heartbreakingly blame themselves. But it wasn't their fault at all.
Let's start from the beginning. So Susan McIntyre (Jodie Whittaker), Tracey Taylor (Aimee Lou Wood), and Maggie Mahon (Claudia Jessie) are three real-life mothers whose children were effected by the Corby poisonings. Just like in the show,...

Honestly sometimes when there's so many recognizable faces in a new show or movie, that doesn't necessarily mean that the story is good or worth your time. Though I'm happy to say that when it comes to Toxic Town on Netflix, that's definitely not the case! This star-studded cast brought it, with an inspiring story as well. With just four episodes, this series is a quick and satisfying watch if you're looking for something new to fill your time. Let's get into our review. Spoilers Below.

The British drama is so well done, including the writing, editing, and pacing of the tale based on true events. Even though the story takes place over the span of 13 years and there's only four episodes, it didn't feel like anything was rushed or missing. It also didn't feel like the episodes were moving too slow either. We got the idea and...

Written and created by Jack Thorne, Toxic Town is based on the true story of the Corby poisonings. The 2009 lawsuit at the story’s center saw Corby mothers, led by Susan McIntyre (played by Jodie Whittaker), rally together to take on the borough’s council over toxic waste mismanagement that led to their children’s disabilities. It was a hard-fought battle for recognition and reparations for their children, and one that the cast and crew of Toxic Town sought to honor in its detailed portrayal of the story.
In order to make it as accurate as possible, the real Susan McIntyre had a simple bit of advice for Whittaker. “I said, ‘Get the accent right,’ ” McIntyre told Netflix. “And she was brilliant.”

Spoiler Alert !!!Warning, spoilers ahead for the Toxic Town episodes—Good luck keeping those tears in!
Let me start by saying this: There are moments when you don’t even need to dive deep into a drama’s backstory to know it’s about to leave a mark. Have you ever felt that raw, gut-punching weight of injustice surrounding you? That feeling so loud, it echoes in your bones and won’t let you look away? The kind of feeling that makes you want to scream, “Someone has to do something!” Well, Toxic Town takes that feeling and cranks it up to an emotional fever pitch.

Netflix’s latest drama, Toxic Town, covers the real-life events that occurred in the English town of Corby in the 1990s. After their children were born with disabilities, a group of mothers embarked on a battle to hold those responsible to account and seek justice.
Before watching Netflix’s latest drama Toxic Town, I was largely unaware of the true story behind the series. I’d heard of it, but other than that, I was pretty much in the dark. However, as this 4-part series unfolded, I found myself an emotional wreck, utterly heartbroken by the devastating events that occurred. This real-life story, told by an exceptional cast, had me gripped from the first scene to the last.

Jack Thorne, the feted British writer behind His Dark Materials and the upcoming Netflix series Toxic Town, has bemoaned the UK scripted funding crisis.
In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live’s Must Watch show, Thorne said there is a “real problem” financing British stories — and it’s beginning to bite in the development room.
“The type of shows that I love, not necessarily that I’ve written, are under threat and new writers that want to write this sort of thing are being discouraged from it by the state of the market,” he said.
As Deadline detailed in a long read on the crisis earlier this month, a confluence of issues is preventing local stories from getting the funding required to go into production. As many as 15 greenlit shows are stuck in limbo.

Jodie Whittaker, the first woman to play the iconic lead on BBC's hit sci-fi series Doctor Who, has reflected on her time on the series and the issue of dealing with toxic fans. Whittaker played the Thirteenth Doctor from 2018 to 2022 over the course of three series and 31 episodes of television. Sadly, Whittaker's casting made headlines for both good and ill. Many fans loved her tenure as the Doctor, but there were also plenty of audience members who made their disdain for her incarnation of the time lord known, often critiquing the idea of a woman in the role of the space alien as "woke," a criticism her predecessor, Ncuti Gatwa has also faced.
Speaking with The Times to promote her new Netflix series Toxic Towns, Whittaker spoke about her time working on Doctor Who, notably the toxicity around her casting and the pressure she felt.

Former Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker has opened up about the backlash to her casting as the 13th Doctor. The actress made TV history in 2017 when she became the first woman to play The Doctor.
While many Doctor Who fans and all of Whittaker's successors were publicly supportive, there was a significant wave of criticism for showrunner Chris Chibnall straying from having a white male play the Time Lord. Doctor Who quickly faced this criticism head on by casting Jo Martin as a secret incarnation of The Doctor, thus retroactively establishing that The Doctor could take the form of any sex or gender.

Bridgerton premiered in 2020 on Netflix, and it has been a major phenomenon since then. The Regency-era series is based on Julia Quinn's book series of the same name and follows the eponymous wealthy family.
Every season, Bridgerton followed a different main couple, starting with Daphne and Simon in Season 1, Anthony and Kate in Season 2, and, most recently, Colin and Penelope in Season 3. The show is already renewed for Season 4, which will finally put the rightful Bridgerton sibling in the spotlight — Benedict, whose story was canonically explored in the third installment of the book series, instead of Colin's. To celebrate Valentine's Day, Netflix held a fan event celebrating the "Season of Love," and it introduced the first look at Season 4's main couple, Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek.

The final episode of Jodie Whittaker's run as the Thirteenth Doctor on Doctor Who featured several cameos from across time and space. "Power of the Doctor" celebrated many milestones for the BBC. Not only was it marking the 100th Anniversary of the BBC, but it was also the 300th televised Doctor Who story. To honor all of that, Chris Chibnall, showrunner at the time, pulled out the big guns, gathering together past companions, as the current ones, Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill) and Dan Lewis (John Bishop) said their goodbyes. A companion support group was featured in the episode, bringing together past companions of the Doctor, all the way back to William Hartnell's tenure.

It's challenging to state the cultural significance associated with Doctor Who. The British series follows a time-traveling alien named The Doctor who whips through time in a blue Police box called the Tardis with his companions and helping beings along the way.
The series debuted in the 1960s and concluded its original run in 1989. It was revived in 2005 and has continued ever since, with 14 actors holding the role of the Doctor. In 2009, the British High Court found Corby Borough Council guilty of negligence for its mismanagement of toxic waste in the Northamptonshire town over a span of fifteen years between 1984 and 1999. Though dubbed "the British Erin Brockovich," the story of the Corby poisonings — and of the band of mothers who courageously confronted and fought their town's leadership for justice as they raised children with toxic waste-related birth defects — is one you likely haven't heard. Until now, that is. In Netflix's new four-part limited series Toxic Town, penned by prolific writer Jack Thorne, the monumental environmental scandal and the landmark case associated with it is dramatised through the lens of the women — led by Jodie Whittaker, Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education), and Claudia Jessie (Bridgerton) — whose love for their kids overcame a Goliath sized display of institutional greed and negligence. Check out the trailer for the drama below:
