Justin P. Lange (The Seventh Day) directed The Visitor from a screenplay by Adam Mason and Simon Boyes, who previously wrote the Into the Dark movie Blood Moon for Blumhouse and Hulu. For this one, Mason and Boyes crafted the following story:

Horror comedy Smothered is written and directed by actor turned director John Schneider. Yes, you did read that correctly… Actor John Schneider, who many will know from family-friendly productions and his roles as Bo Duke on Dukes of Hazzard and more recently Jonathan Kent, aka Superman’s dad, on Smallville, has turned his hand to writing and directing in more recent years but who knew he had a penchant for penning horror? Admittedly he has had roles in low-budget monster movies such as Super Shark, Snow Beast and Lake Placid 2 but I had no idea he was such a horror fan – he certainly has to be to create such a love letter to the horror community as Smothered.

The first trailer is here for the new horror film from John Schneider (yes, that John Schneider of "Dukes of Hazzard fame). Smothered has a cast filled with a handful of beloved horror icons, who are all apparently playing themselves in it. Check it out!
From the Press Release
When John R. Schneider wrote Smothered, he wrote a reverse of the classic horror film model. Instead of a bunch of college-aged girls getting slaughtered by men in masks, his film features men of the mask getting slaughtered by a beautiful young vixen.
And, in a turn that will leave horror fans titillated, the film features a list of horror icons playing “themselves” in this “horroromedy” (horror/comedy) film with more humanity than you’d expect from a film where almost everyone dies.
The film, which stars Kane Hodder (Jason X, Hatchet), Ra Milhailoff (Leatherface, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3), Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects,...

Monster movies should be a no-brainer. That's why we're astounded that this week's incoherent Creature failed so incredibly miserably. Good thing we've got some Rites of Spring imagery to make us feel better.
Rites of Spring stars Aj Bowen (The Signal, The House of the Devil, Hatchet 2), his Signal co-star Anessa Ramsey, Marco St. John from the long-awaited Dylan Dog adaptation Dead of Night, and Shanna Forrestall (The Last Exorcism). Look for the flick to premiere at this year's Screamfest L.A.!

Ah, monster movies. So close to our hearts. So dear to our souls. In a world dominated by ghost stories, vampires, and slasher flicks, it's great to revisit the sub-genre of vicious beasts who have delivered so many screams. Hopefully that's exactly what we'll get with Padraig Reynolds' indie flick Rites of Spring.
DC reader Marcus D. sent us a link to what appears to be an old promo trailer for the flick, given its "2008" cue at the end. But an old tease is better than nothing, right? Either way, it looks pretty damned sweet!

It was only yesterday that we brought you those sweet old school posters for independent horror flick, Rites of Spring and now we've got our hands on the trailer for you.
One thing you'll notice is "2008" flashes at the end. I think this means one of two things. Either its a promo, or the film has been done for years and is only now gearing up for release. Seems to me it's not a promo because there are flashes of other scenes from the film at the end.

Some awesomely old school 70s style post art has appeared for Rites of Spring, a supernatural killer thriller from Padraig Reynolds. The term "creature feature" is being bandied about, but I think it's more like a ghost stalker picture that a straight up creature.

It's great to see filmmakers going back to the old school approach to movie posters instead of the trendy overly Photoshopped floating heads route. Case in point: the new artwork for Padraig Reynolds' indie flick Rites of Spring.

I love a good creature feature, which is why I'm insanely excited for Padraig Reynolds' indie Rites Of Spring, which rocks the all-star cast: Aj Bowen (House Of The Devil, A Horrible Way To Die, The Signal), Anessa Ramsey (The Signal, YellowBrickRoad), Sonny Marinelli (Fallen Faithful, "ER") Marco St. John ("Treme," Monster, The Punisher), and Shanna Forrestall (The Last Exorcism). Teased as in the vein of Robert Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn, "After kidnapping the nine-year-old daughter of a wealthy socialite and hiding out in an abandoned school, the kidnappers fall prey to a recurring terror in this place, a bloodlust that comes every first day of spring."...

D: Daniel Stamm
C: Patrick Fabian, Ashley Bell, Iris Bahr, Louis Herthum, Caleb Landry Jones, Tony Bentley, John Wright Jr., Shanna Forrestall, Justin Shafer, Carol Sutton
Priest who has been doubting the relevancy of exorcism heads out to a small town farm to help a supposedly possessed teenage girl rid herself of the demons that plague her, but the priest becomes too involved with the family and in over his head.
In "The Last Exorcism" the characters involved in the film are being filmed by a documentary film crew. The film is aiming to be a realistic portrait of a series of events. Too often does the film feel hokey or unconvincing. For the most part these is no intimacy in relation to the connection between viewer and character. Again for the most part there is no immediacy to the series of events in the film as they are unfolding.

There are at least three major horror releases coming out this week, with Bitter Feast, The Last Exorcism and Case 39. Some will cringe at these titles, while others will jump in horrific delight. The independent feature Bitter Feast from director Joe Maggio releases January 4th on DVD and Blu-Ray. This is a tale of revenge, as one chef gives a scathing food critic and blogger his just desserts. This film will release through Dark Sky Films. Other films also release January 4th.
The Eli Roth (Hostel) produced The Last Exorcism did very well at the box office considering its meager $2 million price tag. Yet, movie critics have been ambivalent, with comments like "a nice surprise" (San Francisco Chronicle), "[the film] is thoroughly engrossing until it loses its way about three-quarters in" (USA Today), and "the film’s docu-style and credible improv acting lay the foundation for an eerie and believable horror movie" (Chicago Tribune). There are several new clips up from Lionsgate's eerie-looking upcoming horror "The Last Exorcism." Pic is helmed by Daniel Stamm from the writing by Huck Botko and Andrew Gurland. Starring are Patrick Fabian, Ashley Bell, Jamie Alyson Caudle, Iris Bahr, Louis Herthum, Tony Bentley, Shanna Forrestall, Caleb Jones and Allen Boudreaux. See it in theatres August 27th (Wide) (Showtimes & Tickets). When he arrives on the rural Louisiana farm of Louis Sweetzer, the Reverend Cotton Marcus expects to perform just another routine “exorcism” on a disturbed religious fanatic. An earnest fundamentalist, Sweetzer has contacted the charismatic preacher as a last resort, certain his teenage daughter Nell is possessed by a demon who must be exorcized before their terrifying ordeal ends in unimaginable tragedy.

The MPAA announced today that they've given Lionsgate's The Last Exorcism a PG-13 rating "for disturbing violent content and terror, some sexual references and thematic material." Before you get your panties in a bunch, the MPAA typically gives an R when a film is loaded with vulgarities and violence. Is this bad thing? Probably not. You be the judge. After premiering at the Laff this coming Thursday, the Eli Roth produced horror flick opens wide on August 27. Patrick Fabian, Iris Bahr, Louis Herthum, Ashley Bell, Tony Bentley, Caleb Jones, Shanna Forrestall, Allen Boudreaux, Denise Lee, Becky Fly, Logan Craig Reid, Jamie Alyson Caudle all star in the Daniel Stamm directed pic.
