Mark started his career as a volcano scientist, traveling the world
investigating active volcanoes. With a PhD in geophysical fluid
dynamics from the University of Bristol, his career took a sharp turn
when he began using those skills to create CG lava simulations. Now
Mark is recognized internationally as an outstanding Dynamic Effects Expert
and RealFlow specialist, working on such films as Allegiant, Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Guardian, and Poseidon.
His geophysics/fluids background and his intuition for natural phenomena gives him an unusually sharp eye for vfx and his experience in disaster management means he's completely comfortable amidst the chaos of production!
With studios in Vancouver and Los Angeles, Mark creates outstanding photo-real fluid fx through expert application of RealFlow and custom Python scripting. He broke new ground in fluid fx on commercial spots (Miller Beer and Listerine) and in feature films like Poseidon (Warner Bros) and The Guardian (Touchstone), where he developed entirely new algorithms for achieving photo-real, large scale fluid flow phenomena. Through intensive r&d, Mark continues to push the envelope in particle & fluid fx with every new challenge he tackles. You can see his work at www.fusioncis.com
When he's not in a studio, Mark on the high seas (more water!) with his dogs and his partner, Lauren.
