Netflix has become a go-to service for horror fans, thanks to the success of Wednesday, Stranger Things, and the various series from Mike Flanagan. In addition to TV shows, it carries a ton of horror movies, but with such a surplus of content, it's hard to choose what to watch especially for someone looking for quality. Since Netflix's site catalog changes often, it's easy to miss available movies before the company removes them.
Netflix's current offer of horror films covers many different subgenres. From witches to evil scientists, Netflix has some of the best horror movies ever made. These options are great for those who are seeking a truly thrilling time. The only problem will be trying to sleep with the lights off after watching them.

In the first few minutes of his first Zoom casting call with actor Alex Wolff, Oystein Karlsen knew he had found his Leonard Cohen.
“He came on the screen like this,” the Norwegian director and screenwriter puts his hand over his face, with one eye poking out. “He said: ‘Sorry, I’m so hung over. I know I’m not going to get the role. I feel horrible.’ I thought: That’s Leonard!”
Karlsen already had his eye on Wolff to play the famously melancholic Canadian singer-songwriter in his new TV miniseries about Cohen and Marianne Ihlen, his great love, muse and the woman who inspired the song that gives the series its title: So Long, Marianne.
Alex Wolff as Leonard Cohen and Thea Sofie Loch Ness as Marianne Ihlen in So Long, Marianne.

This article contains spoilers for 2018's MalevolentFlorence Pugh is having a moment. Although she made her film debut, alongside Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams, in 2014's The Falling, it was Pugh's breakout role in 2016's independent drama, Lady Macbeth, that garnered attention. She's been a rising star in Hollywood ever since, appearing in notable films like Little Women, Marvel's Black Widow, and Don't Worry Darling (though the latter was more famous for its behind-the-scenes controversy than the movie itself).
Pugh also starred in two of the biggest films of the last year: 2023's Oscar-buzzing Oppenheimer and 2024's universally acclaimed, science-fiction blockbuster, Dune: Part Two. Pugh has also dipped her toes in the horror genre. Yes, she starred in the folk horror, cult classic, Midsommar. But Florence Pugh also starred in another little horror gem, even before Midsommar, that most people have either forgotten about or never heard of: 2018's Malevolent.

Masterpiece has released a trailer for the upcoming final season of Sanditon, the drama inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel, that was adapted and created by Andrew Davies and produced by Red Planet Pictures.
The series took on its own direction (Austen only finished 11 chapters before her death) and writer Justin Young took the helm as lead writer and executive producer for seasons 2 and 3. The drama will premiere on 9 p.m. Sunday, March 19, on PBS. The series also will be available to stream the same day.
Returning characters for Season 3 include Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams), Georgiana Lambe (Crystal Clarke), Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes), Tom Parker (Kris Marshall), Mary Parker (Kate Ashfield), Lady Denham (Anne Reid), Edward Denham (Jack Fox), Arthur Parker (Turlough Convery), Lady Susan (Sophie Winkleman), and Ralph Starling (Cai Brigden).
More new faces are joining the series, like Lady Montrose, who is the quintessential Austen mother. She arrives in Sanditon with one objective: matches for her children, Lydia and Henry. Lydia is an independent young woman who is not as eager for a match as her mother, while Lord Henry Montrose is charismatic and confident, but he holds a secret.
There’s also Rowleigh Pryce, a wealthy, curmudgeonly investor who is interested in teaming up with Tom Parker on the seaside resort’s expansion. Their plans become complicated when Rowleigh runs into Lady Denham. Also new to Sanditon is Alexander’s brother, Samuel Colbourne – a lawyer, and a charming bachelor.

The Call the Midwife Season 11 finale opened with the streets of Poplar resembling a war scene.

This Sunday’s Call the Midwife started out like any other installment of the PBS drama.
Sister Hilda led the morning meeting for the midwives and noticed that Nurse Nancy seemed preoccupied with news of 1967’s Abortion Act. While all of the staffers commended the law for eventually saving lives, Sister Hilda simply wanted Nurse Nancy to concentrate. She talked to Sister Julienne about it and the two came up with a plan to give Nurse Nancy more responsibilities.

Sanditon‘s second season has come to a close and there’s the promise of another chapter on the horizon as PBS Masterpiece gives fans a first look at what’s to come in Season 3. The show’s second season concluded with another cliffhanger, and a brief teaser shared by PBS is sure to cause a stir. In Season 2 of the Regency-era drama, heroine Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) returned to the titular seaside resort town only to find heartbreak once again. (Credit: PBS Masterpiece) After Sidney Parker’s (Theo James) efforts to save his family through marriage to another left Charlotte devastated, his death caused even more chaos. She seemed to find brief happiness with the town’s notorious widower Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes), but by the time Season 2 came to an end, he’d dismissed her from her position as a governess for his niece and daughter, feeling as...

In frilly YA frivol “The King’s Daughter,” Louis Xiv (an awkwardly bewigged Pierce Brosnan) orders a mermaid captured and brought back to Versailles, so that he might sacrifice the creature during a solar eclipse and attain eternal life, it takes just a few minutes for such an amazing feat to be accomplished. But haste is hardly the order of the day with this quasi-historic fairy tale, which follows that thrilling opening with royal balls and cross-country horseback rides, courtly intrigue and plentiful costume changes — a girly dream of the French monarchy, for which would-be audiences have been obliged to wait a quarter-century.
The well-liked book on which it’s based, Vonda N. McIntyre’s “The Moon and the Sun,” was published in 1997, and discussions began almost immediately about an adaptation. The film focuses largely on what happens after the mermaid reaches France, and the Sun King (played by Brosnan with...

British comedy horror has taken many forms. From the Abominable Dr. Phibes to Shaun of the Dead to The Cottage. All very different but all equally funny and A Serial Killer’s Guide To Life is another unique horror comedy that feels at home with a lot of recent films and shows from the U.K.
Lou’s life is going nowhere. Working a minimum wage nothing job and living at home with her mum who she also (kind of) looks after. Looking for some direction in her life she searches for a life coach and happens upon Val. A life coach who is looking to take someone on a self help road trip across England and Lou is desperate enough to hop along for the ride.

Malevolent launches a month of Netflix & Chills in decently scary yet unspectacular fashion.
Director Olaf de Fleur Johannesson’s Malevolent is the first offering in what Netflix is referring to as its month of “Netflix & Chills.” October is one of the few months on the calendar that routinely gets its own theme, so strong is the siren call of Halloween and all the horror and spookiness it represents. Don’t even come at me with December the “holiday season.” Snow and general goodwill do not a holiday month make.
The desire to be scared is so strong that entertainment corporations are increasingly developing their whole October content calendar around it. Thank goodness they are, because while fear is something that the dopamine receptors in our brain craver, it is so, so, so, so hard for anything to satisfactorily fill that need.
Horror is hard. Creating a truly great horror movie is nigh impossible.

"Angela, it's just a house..." Netflix has debuted the first trailer for an indie horror titled Malevolent, a new horror film by Icelandic filmmaker Olaf de Fleur Johannesson. The chilling thriller film is about a pair of fake paranormal investigators who suffer the ultimate reality check when confronted by the horrors that lie hidden within a haunted orphanage. But supernatural terrors are the least of their problems when they discover the very real evil lurking in the isolated house. Starring Florence Pugh and Ben Lloyd-Hughes, along with Celia Imrie, Scott Chambers, and Georgina Bevan. This starts out pretty mellow, but get intense fast and looks very freaky once they get into the house. The sound in this trailer is really unsettling as well. Quite an effectively creepy trailer, perfect to launch at the beginning of scary October. Take a look. Here's the first official trailer for Olaf de Fleur Johannesson's Malevolent,...

Netflix has released the first trailer for MaleVolent. This looks like one of the many movies that the streaming service has been developing that has sort of caught us off guard. Not only does this look like it could be a potentially fun way to kick off a month celebrated by horror lovers, but the movie arrives on Netflix in just a few days on October 5. Will this be a welcome early Halloween surprise for genre fans? Or is it merely a run of the mill horror flick that is getting dumped to a streaming service? Hard to say just yet, but the trailer packs quite the bloody punch.
Even taking some of the initially brutal imagery out of the equation, like a man getting his head absolutely caved in with a shovel, the whole wonky-sounding self-help tape that is playing in the background is unsettling all on its own.
