When you've spent years under someone's leadership, it's only natural to adopt some of their traits. This is exactly what happens with Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) in Chicago P.D.Season 12, Episode 14, "Marie," where he takes a very Voight-like approach to the central case. The episode serves as the conclusion to a storyline that began in Episode 10, "Zoe," revolving around eight-year-old Marie (Anabelle Toomy), whose father, Cronin (Eric Sheffer Stevens), is a serial killer. The case hits Ruzek on a deeply personal level, as he can't help but see his own daughter in Marie.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Chicago P.D. Season 12 Episode 14 “Marie.”] Chicago P.D. delivers an intense conclusion to the two-parter that started in “Zoe” with the latest episode. Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) is very much like Intelligence’s leader, Voight (Jason Beghe), in his pursuit of the serial killer who once again kidnapped a young girl, known as Zoe (Anabelle Toomy). Cronin (Eric Sheffer Stevens) manages to find Zoe in foster care and kills the woman who had been watching over her before taking off with her. But by the time the unit traces their steps, he’s bleeding out and Zoe isn’t with him. Ruzek has no problem hurting him more to try to get him to give up Zoe’s location. In fact, it takes Voight yelling at him that it’s “enough!” and Burgess (Marina Squerciati) pushing him back for him to stop. That’s something we’re used to seeing from Voight,...

Who were the best LGBTQ couples in daytime soap opera history? The sad truth is that there aren’t that many to choose from. Despite the shows dipping their toes in the water with queer characters and storylines in the 1990s — like Ryan Phillippe as groundbreaking gay teen Billy Douglas on “One Life to Live” from 1992 to 1993 — the show shied away from romance for its queer characters until the 21st century. Scroll down to read some of our forum posters’ favorites below.

Photo Credit: Sue Coflin/Max PhotosIn 2017 an original play written by As the World Turns alum Trent Dawson, "The F," was produced at Manhatten Rep. in New York City. The play struck a chord with theatre-goers and is now being made into a film.
"The F" follows a real-time argument between Josh and Amanda. In this dark comedy, a New York subway platform becomes the stage for two lovers to battle about the truth: Did he or didn’t he? Who’s perception is real and who is delusional? A strange commuter seems to have the answers to their problems, but will either of them listen to her?
Dawson brought together a number of his former Atwt co-stars to perform "The F" live on stage at a benefit for the film on Friday, June 22. (Click here to support "The F" via the film's GoFundMe page.)

Silent House
Review by LondonFilmFan
Stars: Elizabeth Olsen, Adam Trese, Eric Sheffer Stevens, Julia Taylor Ross | Written by Gustavo Hernández, Laura Lau | Directed by Chris Kentis, Laura Lau
Hot on the heels of wrapping on her first film Martha Marcy May Marlene, Elizabeth Olsen dove straight into her second role, an intense week-long shoot for Chris Kentis and Laura Lau’s “one continuous shot” feature Silent House. Not only is Silent House a remake of the 2010 Uruguayan film La casa muda (supposedly based on a true story from a Uruguayan village in the 1940s) but it also lifts the same gimmicks the original utilised and, for all intents and purposes, contains a bare minimum of originality.
The premise is simple and the idea is a novel one (or at least in the original film it was). A single hand-held camera follows the central character, Sarah, as she revisits the old...

Chicago – “Silent House” inspires the same strange mixture of feelings that I felt while watching fascinating yet severely flawed pictures like “The Life Aquatic” or “I Heart Huckabees.” My rational mind recognizes that the film doesn’t quite work, and yet my inner cinephile urges me to recommend it anyway. Here’s a movie that’s nearly worth seeing in spite of itself.
The directing team of Chris Kentis and Laura Lau made an enormous impression on horror fans with their 2003 indie hit, “Open Water,” which remains one of the scariest films of the last decade. For the majority of its running time, the film centered on the bobbing heads of a couple hopelessly stranded in the middle of shark-infested waters. By following the premise to its logical conclusion, the film refused to loosen its grip on viewers’ imaginations, while masterfully playing on their most primal fears.
Blu-ray Rating: 2.5/5.0

For the majority of its running time, the film centered on the bobbing heads of a couple hopelessly stranded in the middle of shark-infested waters. By following the premise to its logical conclusion, the film refused to loosen its grip on viewers’ imaginations, while masterfully playing on their most primal fears.

Directors Chris Kentis and Laura Lau (Open Water) return to the horror genre for another unique spin on a rather basic story. Silent House is a one take horror film, which uses lengthy shots and low lighting to capture the fear and suspense of a creepy house. Elizabeth Olsen takes the solo lead role and attempts to grab your attention for a little under an hour and a half, but eventually her screams and panting wears off and Silent House‘s true colors are revealed. It’s just another disappointing horror film with an interesting premise, great actress, but no story and a twist ending that ruins everything before it.
Sarah (Elizabeth Olsen), her father (Adam Trese) and her uncle (Eric Sheffer Stevens) are gathering up a few things and working on their lakeside home out in the middle of nowhere. Certain eerie events lead to Sarah getting trapped inside the house,...

*here be major spoilers. Director: Chris Kentis and Laura Lau. Writers: Gustavo Hernández, and Laura Lau. Cast: Elizabeth Olsen, Adam Trese, Eric Sheffer Stevens, Julia Taylor Ross, and Adam Barnett. Married couple, Chris Kenis and Laura Lau, return from their thriller Open Water (2004) with another terrifying movie, Silent House. Silent House is a North American remake of Gustavo Hernandez's Uruguayan film La Casa Muda (2010). Both films incorporate long takes into their narrative. Some scenes last for longer than ten minutes. During each take, actress Elizabeth Olsen delivers an astounding peformance as Sarah, a young woman who must confront a tortured past. That tortured past is going to revealed here along with some of the pseudo-psychological aspects of the film. Sarah experiences memory loss: "I think I have holes up here (pointing to her head)." Her memory loss has been caused by years of repression. Also, her conversation partner is a figment of her imagination,...

Although it slightly runs off the rails by the end, Silent House manages to provide a few scares thanks to the intense performance of Elizabeth Olsen, tight camera angles and a brilliant use of bare bones lighting. A remake of the 2010 film La casa muda, Silent House was directed by Chris Kentis, Laura Lau with a screenplay from Gustavo Hernández (who wrote the original) and Lau. The movie stars Olsen, Adam Trese, Eric Sheffer Stevens, Julia Taylor Ross, Adam Barnett, and Haley Murphy. Keeping the review as spoiler free as possible, the movie opens on Olsen.s Sarah who is at her family.s vacation home with her father John (Trese) and her uncle Peter (Stevens). The three are...

There just wasn't enough love for this Fox sitcom. The network has cancelled I Hate My Teenage Daughter after a handful of episodes.
The sitcom revolves around a pair of moms who realize that their daughters have become the kind of girls who terrorized them in high school. The cast includes Aisha Dee, Chad L. Coleman, Eric Sheffer Stevens, Jaime Pressly, Katie Finneran, Kevin Rahm, and Kristi Lauren.
I Hate My Teenage Daughter debuted back in November to a respectable 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.80 million total viewers. That was a positive performance but no doubt had a lot to do with having Fox's very successful X Factor as a lead-in.
The ratings for the second episode fell by 25% and the thirds dropped by another 14% to a 1.8 in the demo with 5.06 million. Those numbers were...

In 2010, a small budget Spanish language horror film from Uruguay appeared called La Casa Muda. Directed by Gustavo Hernandez, it was supposedly shot in one take (this fact came into dispute soon after it's release), and followed, in real time, a girl who is stalked through an abandoned cottage by an unknown assailant. It was praised for it's originality, technical achievements, and ability to to create some genuinely scary moments. With all this praise it was inevitable that Hollywood would come calling with a remake. But as has been the case with recent english language remakes, it is quite good. Silent House is the story of Sarah (Elizabeth Olsen), a young woman fixing up an old family home for sale with her father (Adam Trese) and Uncle (Eric Sheffer Stevens). When her and her father go to investigate strange noise in the house, they become victims of a terrifying home invasion.

Remaking a revered foreign film is a thankless, usually insurmountable task. But what if the original film is not all that good to begin with? The Silent House, a Uruguayan horror from 2010, was distinguished largely for its admittedly impressive single-take gimmick, filmed on a Canon 5D as one apparently continuous 78-minute sequence (a spurious claim under scrutiny, though). Much like the source material, this low-fi Hollywood remake, Silent House, is a technically impressive feat – and better-acted for sure – but let down by a dearth of scares and uneven pace.
Sarah (Elizabeth Olsen) is staying at a lakeside vacation home with her father, John (Adam Trese) and uncle Peter (Eric Sheffer Stevens), and they are fixing it up for sale. It has no electricity, and has been set upon by vandals constantly; thus it isn’t much of a surprise when the house is invaded by a gang of intruders,...

It’s odd that the CinemaScore rating for Silent House, a more than decent gimmicky scare picture that opened last Friday, is an “F” — suggesting that critics like me are more excited by formal inventiveness than most of the film-going public. The gimmick here is that the camera follows the main character, Sarah (Elizabeth Olsen), for the entirety of the film, beginning with a striking descent as she sits on a rock staring pensively at the water and finishing … I’m not saying just yet. There are a few discreet edits in what follows but as Sarah helps her father (Adam Trese) and uncle (Eric Sheffer Stevens) clean their old summer house (mysteriously without power or light) and prepare it for sale, the takes go on and on, with no time for Olsen — or the audience — to decompress, exhale. We’re essentially marooned with the girl as the creaks...

If you needed any more evidence as to just what an acting talent Elizabeth Olsen is, take a trip to Silent House...
Sarah (Elizabeth Olsen) is returning to the house where she spent her summers growing up for the first time in years. She's in the company of her father John (Adam Trese) and her Uncle Peter (Eric Sheffer Stevens). The three of them are in the process of cleaning out and refurbishing the long-forgotten old place in an attempt to sell it and get a little money out of it, since nobody in the family really uses it anymore. The house is in pretty bad shape, so the refurb has been taking longer than expected.
However, Sarah's not long for this work. She's just going to be there a few days to pack up some of her things from childhood, and then she'll be moving on with her life.

Boarded up windows, locked doors, and dimly lit rooms . . . these are all ingredients for a haunted house. Throw in an unwelcome house guest or two and your about half-way there in terms of what to expect from Silent House. However, in an attempt to not let you be bored by the all too familiar scenario, directors Chris Kentis and Laura Lau, have employed the same gimmick that the original Uruguayan film boasted: one long continuous camera shot. Though it may be this clever device that gets you into the theater to see the film, it will be the engaging performances and intense experience that will leave you remembering it.
Silent House takes you on a single-take camera ride through a creepy house with Sarah (Elizabeth Olsen). She has returned to her family’s desolate home to help out her father (Adam Treese) and uncle (Eric Sheffer Stevens) fix it up in order to sell it.

Open Road Films and Liddell Entertainment's Silent House opens today in wide release. The pic, which premiered at last year's Sundance Film Festival, was co-directed by filmmaking duo Chris Kentis and Laura Lau, who initially made a splash back in 2004 with Open Water. The screenplay was written by Laura Lau and based on the Uruguayan film La Casa Muda, written by Oscar Estevez. The film is orchestrated to appear as though it was shot in one take. There's less than 12 cuts in the film, which means that every scene is a long, challenging prospect for the actors involved. Earlier this week I spoke with Eric Sheffer Stevens (pictured left; "I Hate My Teenage Daughter", Julie And Julia), who plays Peter in the film, about the difficulties of performing under the conceit's restrictions as well as what it was like working with the then unknown Elizabeth Olsen...

Chicago – Elizabeth Olsen does her damned best to save “Silent House” from itself but this quasi-thriller collapses under the weight of a script that just doesn’t work. It’s one of those horror movies with no internal logic and camera tricks as ways to heighten tension instead of anything that feels remotely genuine. The trip through “Silent House” starts promisingly but you’ll be running for the doors before it ends.
The trick behind “Silent House” is a relatively clever one. The story is told in one take, never leaving the location of its female protagonist, a clearly troubled girl named Sarah (Olsen) who is helping pack up an old house with her father John (Adam Trese) and her uncle Peter (Eric Sheffer Stevens). There are some obvious cuts (like when it gets pitch black, door transitions, or running scenes) but the film is an impressive technical accomplishment...

Directors: Chris Kentis, Laura Lau Writers: Gustavo Hernández (based on the film by), Laura Lau (screenplay) Starring: Elizabeth Olsen, Adam Trese, Eric Sheffer Stevens, Julia Taylor Ross Single-take films are a rarity, probably both because of the obvious challenges involved in making them and because there aren't many stories that work well in that format. The most famous single-take film is probably Alfred Hitchcock's 1948 classic Rope. Based on the Uruguayan horror film La Casa Muda, also a single-take film, Silent House looks every bit the part of an uninterrupted 88 minute shot although I sense that it's not (and I've read that the final 15 minutes were re-filmed after the film's Sundance premiere). I'm sure there are several splices and cuts hidden in there but directors Chris Kentis and Laura Lau masterfully manage to keep them well disguised. Silent House Directed by Chris Kentis and Laura Lau Written by Laura Lau (screenplay) Starring Elizabeth Olsen, Adam Trese and Eric Sheffer Stevens Horror fans will find themselves in a familiar position when they watch Silent House, a film that does an excellent job building tension and dread, but ultimately succumbs to an unsatisfying ending that cheapens the overall experience. Why do so many horror films fall apart in the last ten minutes? It’s frustrating to experience the exhilaration of a well-executed tale of creeping dread, only to watch your well-earned admiration dissolve when the movie takes an easy out. Such is the case with Silent House, a film I will still give an enthusiastic recommendation to, because when it is good, it is very good. I’m an adamant fan of the horror genre, and sometimes, I take my scares where I can get them. Silent House is...

It's been eight years since the filmmaking couple of Chris Kentis and Laura Lau brought their low-budget stranded-at-sea thriller Open Water to the Sundance Film Festival, with many claiming or hoping it to be the next Blair Witch Project.
In their single take remake of the Uruguayan horror film of the same name by Gustavo Hernández, they play with more familiar horror tropes, that being the haunted house thriller, but also delving into other horror sub-genres with slasher elements thrown into the mix.

An interesting concept is all well and good, but without proper execution, it's worthless. The concept behind Chris Kentis and Laura Lau's horror film Silent House is to look like one unbroken, 88-minute shot (in reality, there are ten hidden cuts). Theoretically, it's a great approach to horror film. If you don't break the shot, then you don't break the tension, and we never leave the side of the terrified protagonist. But Kentis and Lau completely bungle their intriguing concept through cheap scares, paper-thin characters, an irritating lead performance, and a confusing, exploitative ending. Sarah (Elizabeth Olsen) has joined her father John (Adam Trese) and her uncle Peter (Eric Sheffer Stevens) to clean out the family's old lake house. The dilapidated home is in the process of being renovated and has no power, so the family members carry around lanterns and make small talk about mold in the walls...
