It is a truth universally acknowledged that every good network drama must kill off at least one fan-favorite character in an extremely bleak, cry-until-you're-dehydrated way at least once every few seasons. When it comes to "Chicago Fire," one of the biggest major character deaths came in the very first moments of season 8, which claimed the life of Brian "Otis" Zvonecek.
Judging by the heaps of online comments memorializing Otis like he's a real person, the character who was with Truck 81 since the show's pilot is perhaps the most beloved "Chicago Fire" character ever. The child of Russian immigrants was funny and sometimes underestimated, and he worked his way up to a much-coveted engineer position over time. He also had deep ties to plenty of other key characters, so when the powers that be decided "Chicago Fire" needed to up the ante with real, deadly stakes, Otis ended up biting the dust.

Despite fan speculation, Chicago Fire star Taylor Kinney is not going to appear in the Season 11 finale. As Deadline previously reported exclusively, the fan favorite who plays Kelly Severide, has been on a leave of absence since January, dealing with a personal matter. Chicago Fire alum Jesse Spencer, who starred as Matt Casey alongside Kinney for 10 seasons, returned earlier this season and will guest star again in the season finale.
Kinney has starred as the firefighter on the Dick Wolf procedural since its launch in 2012. Spencer originally left in Chicago Fire’s 200th episode, air date in October 2021. When Spencer left the series, his character was headed to Oregon to take care of his late best friend Andy Darden’s sons. He was also trying a long-distance relationship with love interest Sylvie Brett (Kara Kilmer).

Another Chicago-based set has been impacted by gunfire.
On Wednesday, filming on “Chicago Fire” was disrupted by a nearby shooting, which halted production for the day and triggered NBC’s security protocols. No one on the production was involved or injured, TheWrap has confirmed.
According to a local report, the full cast was on-scene, and three cameras were rolling when the gunfire broke out around 1:45 p.m. Ct. The incident took place as exterior shots were being filmed at A.A. Rayner and Son’s Funeral Home, 5911 West Madison.
The Chicago Police department said the suspect was an unknown offender, who was armed with a handgun and “shot at a group of people standing in the 5900 block of W. Madison.” No one was struck and the offender fled in a dark color SUV. Area 4 detectives are currently investigating.

Spoiler Alert: The following story reveals major plot points from the Season 10 finale of NBC’s Chicago Fire.
The day of the long-awaited Stellaride wedding has finally arrived on NBC’s Chicago Fire and not even Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) was willing to miss it. Casey, after all, committed to standing beside his best friend Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) on his big day.
As series executive producer Derek Haas teased in the lead-up to the Season 10 finale, the bride and groom faced a complicated emergency just hours before their nuptials.
With a fiery inferno about to enter an apartment where a pregnant woman was seriously injured and in labor, 51 was all hands on deck—minus a cowardly Emma Jacobs (Caitlin Carver) who abandoned her partner and ended up getting fired over it. It’s pretty hilarious how Emma thought she would steal Violet’s (Hanako Greensmith) job yet she literally...

Jesse Spencer is back on NBC‘s Chicago Fire alongside Taylor Kinney for the highly anticipated Season 10 finale titled “The Magnificent City of Chicago,” airing May 25. Spencer exited the series in October after a decade on the firefighter drama.
Spencer is wearing a blue suit as his character Matt Casey is standing in as his best friend Kelly Severide (Kinney) is set to marry Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo).
“The juicy details are that we went to him and said, ‘You’re so loved on this show. And with the Severide wedding coming up, there’s no way Casey would miss seeing his best friend getting married. Come on, man!’ So, he graciously agreed to come back for the finale,” executive producer Derek Haas recently told Deadline of how he convinced Spencer to return.

Chicago Fire will see more of top-of-her-game paramedic Violet Mikami as NBC promotes Hanako Greensmith to series regular.
Greensmith made her Chicago Fire debut in a recurring role in Season 8. Violet is a fun, cool, ball-busting, confident, capable paramedic. Full of swagger, her skill can be intimidating but mostly she’s impressive. She’d never back down from a challenge, and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. Since her first days at Firehouse 51, Violet has gotten close with Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende) and won over other first responders, including Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer).
The actress’ recent credits include NBC’s Chicago Med, CBS’s Bull and FBI. The Pace University graduate made her New York theater debut in the off-Broadway production of Lolita, My Love. Her reps are Nicolosi & Co.
From Dick Wolf and Derek Haas, Chicago Fire looks into the lives of everyday heroes committed to one of America’s noblest professions.

[This story contains spoilers for the Feb. 3 episode of NBC’s Chicago Fire.]
Wednesday’s Chicago Fire was a bottle episode, but not one like the NBC mainstay has ever attempted before. It also actually accomplished the usual goal of a bottle episode: saving some money on production costs.
For the hour, “My Lucky Day,” director Reza Tabrizi deployed nine cameras, including six GoPros placed around the set, and writers Michael Gilvary, Andrea Newman and Derek Haas wrote each act like a play. The actors — regulars David Eigenberg and Joe Minoso and guest stars Baize Buzan and Brian ...

Exclusive: A new paramedic is joining the team at Firehouse 51. Actress Adriyan Rae is set to join NBC’s Chicago Fire as a series regular for the forthcoming ninth season.
Rae will step into the role of Gianna Mackey in the procedural. Her character is described as “a lovable troublemaker with a twinkle in her eye”. She is also “charming, scrappy, fun, witty and good-natured”. Gianna comes from a family of working-class parents who are adored by their community. This makes Gianna welcoming and friendly individual who treats everyone like family — but don’t get it twisted. She’s no pushover. She’s tough and quick to defend the defenseless, isn’t afraid of a little chaos and rolls with the punches while approaching everything with a bit of wry humor.

This movie hasn’t been any good the thousand other times you’ve seen it, and it’s no good now, either. Nice ordinary folk terrorized by eeeevil bad guys? Check. Idiotic behavior on the part of absolutely everyone? Check. And still the script needs to invent more idiocy to try to make it all hang together? Check. Imagine if Bo and Luke Duke tried to write a Southern gothic, and you might end up with Transit, in which Jim Caviezel (Deja Vu) is driving his wife (Elisabeth Röhm: Abduction) and sons through somewhere hot, sticky, and bayou-y when a gang of armored-car thieves decide to hide their bag o’ loot among the camping gear atop the family SUV. (There’s roadblocks and a few deeply questionable law-enforcement tactics erected to compel that bit of nonsense and others. Unless it’s supposed to be some sort of commentary on how...

Just last week, it was announced that Joel Silver's Dark Castle Home Entertainment and Courtney Solomon's After Dark Films were joining forces on a new action movie franchise titled "After Dark Action," which kicks off with five movies to be shown theatrically as a "commercial film festival" before hitting VOD on May 11th. Now, the first trailer for the first of the After Dark Action movies, Transit, has been released online.
Written by Michael Gilvary (According to Greta) and directed by Antonio Negret (Seconds Apart), Transit stars Jim Caviezel (Outlander) as Nate Sidwell, an ex-con attempting to restore his relationship with his family by taking them on a camping trip only to become a pawn in a game of "cops and robbers" with $4 million — and his family's lives — on the line. The movies feature an impressive line-up of stars that include Jean Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Peter Weller, James Caviezel, Harold Perrineau, Scott Adkins and Christian Slater. It certainly sounds promising, but will these movies be any better than the direct-to-video drivel that a lot of these guys have been starring in over the past decade? The full list of films is as follows: Transit – Starring James Caviezel, James Frain, Elizabeth Rohm, Harold Perrineau and Sterling Knight; and directed by Antonio Negret and written by Michael Gilvary Dragon Eyes – Starring Jean Claude Van Damme,...

Briefly: I'm not sure that we've talked about Transit: it's the After Dark Films thriller to be directed by Antonio Negret from a script by Michael Gilvary, with Joel Silver as exec producer. The story is " about a band of thieves on the run from a bank robbery and the suburban family they come across during their escape. When the criminals stash their stolen money in the family's SUV at a rest stop, the road trippers unwittingly draw the murderous band of outlaws on their trail." Boilerplate thriller stuff, but the cast is starting to get a bit interesting. Yesterday Elisabeth Rohm, Harold Perrineau and Diora Baird signed on, and today James Caviezel and James Frain are on board. Caviezel is, of course, the father of the family (would be better if he was cast against type as the criminal leader) and Rohm is his wife. Perrineau and Baird...

He’s played an Awol soldier in The Thin Red Line, a befriended hobo in Pay it Forward and even Jesus in The Passion of the Christ. and now, according to THR, Jim Caviezel is about to extend his already eclectic resumé further, with a role in “Transit”.
Transit will be directed by relative novice Antonio Negret and also stars Elizabeth Rohm (Angel, Heroes), Harold Perrineau (The Matrix Reloaded, Romeo + Juliet) and Diora Baird. The screenplay by Michael Gilvary (Dust Devil, The Walking Wounded) revolves around a team of robbers who, fleeing the scene of their crime, come across a suburban family travelling on holiday. They promptly stash their haul in the family’s SUV at a rest stop, drawing the family into their (presumably) increasingly dangerous and desperate escape plans.
Caviezel will play the father of the family unwittingly caught up with the robbers and James Frain (24, Fringe, The Tudors) has also been cast.

Vampires continue their bloody winning streak as DreamWorks is in the process of picking up a remake of "Fright Night."
Michael Gaeta and Alison Rosenzweig of Gaeta/Rosenzweig Films are producing along with Michael De Luca. Rosenzweig, who also is setting up remakes of "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud" and "Angel Heart" with De Luca, brought the project to him.
DreamWorks co-president of production Mark Sourian is overseeing for the studio, which has rarely foraged in the horror genre for material. Its most recent two outings -- "The Uninvited" and "The Ruins" -- grossed just $29 million and $17 million, respectively. But its remake of "The Ring" and its sequel grossed $390 million worldwide.
The original "Fright Night," written and directed by Tom Holland in 1985, was a horror comedy about a teenager who discovers that his neighbors are vampires. No writer has been hired, but the updated version will keep the comedy-horror tone while modernizing the effects.
