As he provided an update on the federal response to hurricanes Milton and Helene, President Joe Biden also again called out misinformation that has been spread about the disasters, singling out Donald Trump for making false claims.
Asked whether he had spoken to Trump about it, Biden told reporters, “Are you kidding me? Mr. President Trump, former President Trump, get a life, man. Help these people.”
The president then said that he doesn’t plan on speaking to Trump and that voters and journalists should hold the former president accountable.
Trump has spread false claims that federal disaster resources have been depleted because they were diverted to the border. In fact, Biden said, Fema has enough initial money to assist those impacted, but he said that Small Business Administration resources were running out. He called for congressional action and suggested that lawmakers come back from recess to address the back-to-back national disasters.

By the time that Kamala Harris took the stage to speak about her visit to the southern border tonight, the chyrons were at the ready.
Her speech was billed as a major effort to make inroads on rival Donald Trump’s signature issue and one that is perhaps her greatest weakness as a candidate.
All three cable news networks carried the speech. Fox News, in the midst of Jesse Watters Primetime, went for some editorializing as Harris outlined her plans. “Why Hasn’t She Done This Yet?” it read. CNN’s read, “Harris Speaks At Southern Border, Taking Trump Head On.” MSNBC’s read, “Harris Hits Trump For Killing Bipartisan Border Bill.”
“It actually was a wide ranging and substantive speech from the policy end,” MSNBC’s Chris Hayes said just as Harris finished the 25-minute address, before going to guests with analysis.

Fox News Media has become the first broadcaster to announce a plan to simulcast the CBS News vice presidential debate when it airs next month.
The debate, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 1, will pit Republican Party nominee Senator J. D. Vance and Democratic Party nominee Governor Tim Walz in their only scheduled television debate of the 2024 presidential race.
As was the case with the two presidential debates hosted by CNN and ABC News earlier this year, CBS is offering other broadcasters the opportunity to simulcast its television debate. The simulcast rules will be revealed in the coming days, but are expected to be substantially similar to the guidelines offered by CNN and ABC.

The line between opinion shows and ones rooted in fact can remain blurry at Fox News Channel, the SEC has ruled — or rather, viewers will have to determine where that line falls themselves.
The SEC has said that Fox News does not need to clearly label its commentary shows as “opinion” to differentiate them from their more straightforward news broadcasts. An activist investor named John Chevedden, who’s made a name for himself by routinely submitting petitions to try to affect change in major companies, petitioned Fox News to label its shows accordingly. (Chevedden had made a similar petition in 2023 that he withdrew before the shareholder meeting that year.)
Chevedden believes there is a legally protective reason to do so: Following the $787.5-million settlement the cable channel reached with Dominion about untrue claims regarding its voting machines that Fox News anchors (such as Tucker Carlson) had made on-air, such a...

Donald Trump imploded on the debate stage against Kamala Harris on Tuesday night. The former president fell for obvious bait presented by the vice president, delivered a series of angry diatribes in the style of his rallies, and told lies that repeatedly forced ABC News’ moderators to fact-check him in real-time.
Right-wing lawmakers and commentators are offering a menu of excuses to minimize the damage. In the post-debate spin room and on social media, the former president’s allies are floating everything from moderator bias, to conspiracies about hidden earpieces,...

Fox News host Jesse Watters was in damage control mode on Tuesday night (August 27) as he addressed the backlash to what many deemed to be “inappropriate” comments about Vice President Kamala Harris. Watters claimed his words had been “misconstrued” and that he never intended it to be sexual in nature. “There’s been some attention to comments I made on the show yesterday about VP Harris,” he said. “People are misconstruing my comments to mean something inappropriate.” He continued, “I wasn’t suggesting anything of a sexual nature. Jon Stewart ripped apart Fox News’ coverage of the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night, mocking the outlet’s incongruous treatment of the convention’s jubilant energy.
“How did Fox News experience this convention at the beginning?” Stewart asked his audience at The Daily Show, which aired live from Chicago immediately following the DNC’s conclusion. “I’ve got to be honest, I’m not sure they cared for it.”
The show then played a montage of Fox News pundits claiming “there’s not much joy in this convention hall,” saying “the vibes are off.” In one clip, Jesse Watters said, “this is probably the most boring scene I’ve ever seen in my entire life.”
“Oh, so boring,” Stewart responded. “I forgot what a daredevil like you — I forgot your life is a never-ending joyride of talking to Brit Hume in between catheter ads.”

As the Kamala Harris campaign gets set for a big week ahead during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, the candidate’s political team is also unveiling how they they’ll spend advertising dollars to get their message to voters ahead of early voting and Election Day in November.
As part of a $370 million buy between Sept. 3 and Nov. 5, about $170 million will go to traditional television advertising to reach mass audiences on broadcast and cable. “Voters in battleground states can expect to see Harris-Walz ads during high-viewership moments, including high-trafficked primetime programming like Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Abbott Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, and Survivor, as well as sporting events like college and NFL football games, WNBA and NBA games, NHL games, and MLB games,” the campaign’s deputy campaign managers Quentin Fulks and Rob Flaherty wrote in a memo Aug. 17.

Fox News, known for the primetime hot talk backed by primetime regulars like Sean Hannity and Jesse Watters, is ready to enforce silence — for a good cause.
The Fox Corp.-backed cable-news outlet is vying for a presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, and top news personnel say they are willing to consider muting the candidates’ microphones when they are not responding directly to questions. Even after rumors of a Simpsons-esque dolphin fetish surfaced online, a story about J.D. Vance’s penchant for couch-humping continues to dog the vice presidential candidate. Sure the story is clearly untrue, but nobody seems to mind.
The joke’s longevity has now been further extended by Vance himself, after he made a comment about his wife forcing him to sleep on the couch. It’s unclear how many injuries were sustained by people frantically rushing to their devices to make jokes.
The Vance rumor clearly began as a joke, an easily-debunkable claim on social media that the 2016 book Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis contained a graphic remembrance of the time Vance got intimate with “an inside-out latex glove shoved between two couch cushions.” In retrospect, it’s too bad that we never got to see this scene brought to life by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard.

Bret Baier has in recent days been turning up in places where Fox News viewers might not expect to see him.
Yes, that was Baier and co-anchor Martha MacCallum anchoring President Joe Biden’s Oval Office address last Wednesday night, offering some news analysis of his decision to step down after his current term before ceding the screen to regular 8 p.m. opinion host Jesse Watters. Venturing into the occasional aside and with no teleprompter, Carlson then delivered a full-throated seal of approval to Donald Trump and VP nominee J.D. Vance to the enthusiastic and one-time “Mass Deportations Now” sign-holding crowd. On the last night of...

O’Reilly will be promoting his new book, Confronting the Presidents. The guest for Wednesday, July 17 will be Scott Galloway. From 2001 to 2015, O’Reilly came on ...

The Fox News Channel marked 90 consecutive quarters as the top cable news channel in prime-time at the end of June, with programs like “Jesse Watters Primetime” and “Gutfeld!” continuing to resonate with late-night TV audiences.

Have you ever felt like you’re walking on eggshells in a room full of opinionated people who don’t share your views? In a recent forthright interview with Fox News, Drea de Matteo, celebrated as an Emmy-winning star from The Sopranos, opened up about feeling the heat of political discourse in Tinseltown.
Unlike her character, Adriana La Cerva, whose secrets led to her dramatic demise, de Matteo bravely shared her perspective on the paradox of silence and support surrounding Donald Trump in an industry that often echoes a singular political chorus. Because she is an actor and does not support Joe Biden for president, she claimed to have a target on her back in the entertainment industry.

“The Sopranos” star Drea de Matteo was interviewed on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime” (via Mediaite) and said she’s got a target on her back in Hollywood because she’s an actor who does not endorse Joe Biden for president. The Emmy-winning actor went on to say there are “a lot” of “quiet” Donald Trump supporters in Hollywood, suggesting they won’t go public with their support out of fear of being similarly criticized for going against Biden.
“Is there a quiet Trump voter out there in Hollywood?” host Jesse Watters asked.
“I think there is a lot of them,” de Matteo answered.

The Fox News Channel will offer a live simulcast of CNN’s presidential debate next week, the network announced in a statement.
The debate is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 27 and will mark the first formal debate between incumbent President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. Both are the presumed nominees for their respective parties.
The event is the first time two leading presidential candidates have participated in a nationally-televised debate not organized by the Commission on Presidential Debates since the 1980s. The candidates mutually agreed to appear on CNN and ABC News for at least two debates during the election season, and the two networks have offered other TV stations and news outlets the opportunity to simulcast them live.

Donald Trump has had payback on the brain since he was convicted on 34 felony charges of falsifying business records in New York last week. He told Sean Hannity on Wednesday that he would have “every right” to weaponize the Justice Department to prosecute his political enemies should he win in November. He told Dr. Phil a day later that “sometimes revenge can be justified,” with the interview airing hours after he called for members of the House Jan. 6 Committee to be indicted. This all comes amid months of the former...

Fox News saw double digit ratings growth during the month of May, as all cable networks some some year-over-year total viewership uptick with Donald Trump’s hush money trial dominating the coverage.
In primetime, Fox News averaged 2 million viewers, up 41% from the same month a year earlier. MSNBC averaged 1.16 million, about the same as last year, and CNN averaged 518,000, up 5%.
It was a mixed picture in the 25-54 demo. Fox News averaged 199,000, up 47% from a year earlier, compared to 110,000 for MSNBC, down 8% and CNN with 96,000, down 15%.
Another potential factor in Fox News’ ratings gains: In May 2023, Fox News saw a primetime ratings dip after the network parted ways with its top personality, Tucker Carlson, and initially filled the slot with guest hosts. The network has seen some audience recovery since Jesse Watters filled the slot permanently. In his last full month on the air, Carlson averaged 3.25 million viewers in March,...

Major doubts were raised that the latter story was true.

Fox News continued its dominance in the April ratings, while network coverage of Donald Trump’s hush money trial has failed to produce blockbuster viewership.
In fact, all the major cable news networks saw a drop off in the key 25-54 demo versus a year ago.
Working against the networks is the fact that the television coverage of the Trump trial is prohibited in the courtroom, leaving it to correspondents to check in with regular reports along with an assortment of legal analysts. CNN and MSNBC have added scrolls on the side of their screens with real time text updates from the courthouse.

It’s been Donald Trump’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week.
The past and potentially future leader of the free world spent most of it in a dingy Manhattan courtroom, no longer the master of his domain. It’s a place where he dutifully sits down when the judge tells him to sit, where he’s unable to say whatever he wants, where he’s not allowed to use his phone. And worst of all, where there’s no red button for him to push when he wants a Diet Coke. And according to him, it was bitterly cold — “freezing,” in fact, sounding like your elderly uncle at Thanksgiving. Forget a legal defense; someone needs to give him a sweater.

On Tuesday, Donald Trump‘s lawyer, Todd Blanche, was slammed by Judge Juan Merchan in court while discussing a gag order on the former president.
When Blanche said that Trump was doing his best to comply with the order, Judge Merchan cut him off, snapping, “You are losing all credibility with the court.”
Initially, the gag order blocked the former president’s ability to make public statements about witnesses, prosecutors and court staff if they had been “made with the intent to materially interfere with” the case.
On April 1, Merchan expanded a gag order in the hush money case, including family members of the court and prosecution. Trump repeatedly attacked Merchan’s daughter, Loren Merchan.
The prosecution cited ten incidents in recent days when Trump violated the order.

Update: Judge Juan Merchan has not yet issued a decision on whether Donald Trump violated a gag order and, if so, what kind of sanction he should face.
Merchan listened to both sides during an hourlong hearing, at one point getting perturbed at Trump’s attorney, Todd Blanche.
“You’re losing all credibility with the court,” Merchan told Blanche at one point, after Trump’s attorney said that the former president was “being very careful” to comply with the order.
Prosecutors are pointing to at least ten instances where they say Trump has violated the order. That includes a Truth Social post that appeared to quote Fox News host Jesse Watters. “They are catching undercover Liberal Activists lying to the Judge in order to get on the Trump Jury,” the post quoted Watters as saying.
But prosecutors said that Trump added words to the quote, and it was not merely a repost.

While Lisa Simpson memorably described “stochastic” by its more benign definition, the word has increasingly become attached to “terrorism” in a world where social media platforms have become launching pads for mass-harassment and targeted violence. The fact that Donald Trump’s ongoing felony criminal trial has been struggling to impanel a jury based on the former President and defendant’s signature strategy of siccing his fanatical supporters on people he doesn’t like is rapidly popularizing the term even further.
Not that Trump is alone—as soon as the jury pool was whittled down to a handful of lucky citizens, news outlets have rushed to publicize literally every personal detail they can glean from the proceeding’s increasingly inadequate privacy policies. At least one chosen...

Donald Trump’s hush-money criminal trial is back in session, and Manhattan prosecutors are accusing the former president of violating a court gag order at least seven times since the trial began on Monday.
On Monday, prosecutors requested that Trump be punished for allegedly violating a gag order barring him from attacking witnesses, prosecutors, court staff, and jurors involved in the case. Judge Juan Merchan scheduled a hearing on the matter next week. On Thursday, the prosecution requested that additional alleged violations of the gag order be reviewed in the hearing.

This week Fox News received its marching orders from its favorite viewer: Donald Trump. As the former president attempts to soften his platform on abortion rights — claiming on Monday that he now supports states setting their own laws despite recently floating a national ban — the network is lauding the purported shift away from support for a national ban as the “right” move for Republicans battling post-Roe electoral backlash.
On Tuesday, the Arizona Supreme Court revived an 1864 law that will place a near-total ban on abortion in the state, and...

A former bodyguard of music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has claimed that Combs possessed incriminating tapes of politicians, princes and other notable individuals who attended his parties.
Combs, who has faced a barrage of accusations from physical abuse to rape and sexual trafficking, recently had his residences in Miami and Los Angeles raided by the Department of Homeland Security. Federal agents seized computers and electronic devices during the operation.
In an interview with The Art of Dialogue YouTube channel, Gene Deal, who was present the night Notorious B.I.G. was shot in 1997, she revealed the extent of Combs’ alleged activities.
Deal stated, “I don’t think it’s only celebrities gonna be shook. He had politicians in there; he had princes in there. He also had a couple of preachers in there.”
Deal added, “Can you imagine he had every room bugged.”
When asked why Combs’ media department had stayed silent on the allegations against him,...

Fox News topped its rivals in the March and first-quarter 2024 ratings by a wide margin, but MSNBC and CNN showed the biggest growth versus the same period a year ago.
The past month saw major events like Super Tuesday and President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address. Although the numbers aren’t giving the networks the blockbuster audiences of the 2020 cycle, the networks have for now staved off the large double-digit declines of recent years.
In primetime in March, Fox News averaged 2.14 million viewers, up 2% from the same period a year ago. MSNBC posted 1.31 million, up 15%, and CNN averaged 601,000, up 27%. In the 25-54 demo, Fox News averaged 246,000, up less than 1% over 2023, while MSNBC averaged 133,000, up 24%, and CNN was at 124,000, up 24%.
In total day in March, Fox News topped with 1.31 million, down less than 1%, while MSNBC posted 830,000, up 18%, and CNN averaged 461,000, up 8%. In the 25-54 demo, Fox News led...

The Republican impeachment push against President Joe Biden has always rested on the thinnest of evidentiary ice, but with one of their key informants facing criminal charges for lying to federal investigators, the charade is now on the verge of falling apart.
On Wednesday, the House Oversight Committee — one of the three Republican-controlled committees overseeing the Biden impeachment inquiry — held a hearing in an attempt to salvage the effort.
Democrats brought in Lev Parnas, a former Rudy Giuliani crony who was a key figure in the Ukraine scandal that led to Trump’s first impeachment.

The suspense this Super Tuesday may be in watching how all of the networks try to make the night suspenseful.
Some 16 states and one territory will vote: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia. A Democratic caucus also is being held in American Samoa, and Iowa Democrats also will reveal their results.
But with Joe Biden and Donald Trump on their way to a rematch in the 2024 presidential election, coverage Tuesday will focus on margins of victory, when each candidate will clinch their nomination and what’s next from now until Election Day. There also will be attention to down-ballot races, including California’s Senate primary to fill the seat long held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-ca).
