Congressman and Iraq War veteran Ruben Gallego took Joe Scarborough to task on Monday after the Morning Joe co-host criticized “young men” of today for staying home “playing video games” instead of enlisting in the military.
“Young men in the 1940s liberated Europe from Nazism and the Pacific from the Japanese Empire. Today, too many stay home playing video games,” Scarborough tweeted on Monday morning.
Gallego, a Democratic congressman from Arizona who served as a Marine in Iraq, fired back hours later, saying: “It is ironic you say this on Purple Heart Day. My Marine Corps Company had 48 Purple Hearts,...

Thanks to FirstShowing we have our first look at Space Janitors, an upcoming Star Wars-inspired web series. The web series airs on The Escapist on February 24th. Davin Lengyel and Geoff Lapaire created the series. The story follows "two human custodians working on board a battle station for the evil Empire. As they try to hold on to their jobs in the midst of an intergalactic civil war, the series offers a satirical and irreverent view of androids, clones, Dark Lords, and other science-fiction staples."

In Toronto, Brett Heard has begun production on his first film Stag, which will be released in 2012.
The film stars Donald Faison (Scrubs), Eva Amurri(Californication) and Jon Dore (The Jon Dore Show, Funny As Hell).
Ken Andrews (Faison) has been the orchestrator of the hazing pranks at all of his buddies' stags - elaborate, hilarious pranks that have left many emotional scars and a few physical ones, including Luke (Dore). And nowtoday is Ken's stag! He nervously awaits the fate that his pals surely havein store for him, comforted only by the knowledge that Carl (Pat Thornton)will be there to watch his back that is, so long as Carl can extracthimself from the Hollywood celebrity, Veronica (Amurri). Ken will soondiscover that payback is worse than he could ever imagine.

The MPAA, coming under heavy fire from the media recently that will never amount to anything or change their internal policies, has had a long-standing record of inequality in their ratings. The most graphic example has been doling out or threatening Nc-17 ratings for sexuality on screen between same sex couples even if the scene is far tamer than the typical man on woman sex act. In fact, looking back, it really is sex that has the MPAA’s knickers in a twist. Violence seems to get a pass alongside whatever Adult Situations are, but if someone is enjoying another person (or themselves) carnally, the MPAA picks up its ball and goes home. Speaking of balls, the MPAA is now discriminating further in their fear of sex. It’s important to give parents a guideline, sure, but it’s overkill for the MPAA to point out whether the nudity in a film is male or female. Fortunately...

Oh, Motion Picture Association of America, what wacky hijinks will befall you next? Last week, you went out of your way to cut 'Hatchet 2' off at the knees and leave it bleeding to death at the side of the road, and now you're being exposed for an extraordinarily specific act of sexism: By specifying when a film contains "male nudity" while letting female nakedness fall under the blanket "nudity" statement.
Seriously, MPAA, you little rascal ... you should get a sitcom with all the trouble you get into! Wakka, wakka.
Joking aside, Brian Patrick Thornton's examination of this controversy-in-the-making written for Spangle Magazine is fascinating not only because this is a bizarre choice by the MPAA, but because it exposes a depressing double standard that still lingers over the world, particularly in the media. A choice quote from the article says it all in...

We’ve all heard of the famously shady Hollywood accounting. You know, the kind that moves numbers and dollar signs around until even Titanic somehow fails to make a profit when it comes time to pay out the backend points. Low Budget, a new feature-film-turned-web-series on KoldCast TV from Canadian production company Capital j. Films, has a concept inspired by just such accounting practices. The series revolves around actor/writer Jaye Wolfgang (Pat Thornton) and director/producer Jason Rosa (Neil Green). They run a fledgling Hollywood production company that’s never actually produced anything besides a stack of unpaid bills. They’re even startled when the phone rings, assuming it had been cut off. But luckily it wasn’t yet, because the voice on the other end of the line is a naïve Canadian producer who hires them site unseen to make a travel series of vacation hotspots in Canada.
