Lacey Chabert and Kristoffer Polaha are starring for the first time together in the new, original movie, The Christmas Quest.

According to the official synopsis, the movie, filmed in the breathtaking backdrop of Iceland tells the story of archaeologist Stefanie (Chabert). She embarks on a mission to track down the legendary Treasure of the Yule Lads, a quest that was her late mother’s lifelong dream.

Bankside has unveiled a first look at Ugla Hauksdóttir’s volcano thriller The Fires, shot on location in Iceland throughout the summer, starring Vigdís Hrefna Pálsdóttir and Pilou Asbæk (pictured).

Further cast includesJóhann G. Jóhannsson, Sigurður Sigurjónsson, Ingvar E. Sigurdsson, Guðmundur Ólafsson, Þór Tulinius, Arndís Hrönn Egilsdóttir and Jörundur Ragnarsson.

Writtenby Hauksdóttir and Markus Englmair, the film is an adaptation of the bestselling Icelandic novel of the same name by Sigríður Hagalín.

It is set against a backdrop of unease and fear as volcanoes that have been dormant for 800 years show signs of life in Iceland’s populated region.

Ingvar Sigurdsson and Borys Szyc also join the previously announced cast of Vigdís Hrefna Pálsdóttir, Guðmundur Ólafsson, Þór Tulinius, Arndís Hrönn Egilsdóttir and Jörundur Ragnarsson.

The Fires is about a volcanologist, responsible for predicting the volcanic activity and ensuring public safety, who finds herself caught between a love affair that may destroy her family and an eruption that threatens the capital city.

It is the debut feature of Hauksdóttir and will shoot in Iceland this summer with a local cast led by Vigdís Hrefna Pálsdóttir (pictured left in concept art materials), Guðmundur Ólafsson, Þór Tulinius, Arndís Hrönn Egilsdóttir and Jörundur Ragnarsson.

Exclusive: Nordic programmer Viaplay has set the slate of projects it will debut on the North American version of its streaming platform this summer.

The crop of projects will include a mix of films and series, including the three-part docuseries Liv Ullmann – A Road Less Travelled, which will debut on June 22. The doc, which features contributions from Cate Blanchett, Jessica Chastain, and Jeremy Irons, offers an intimate portrait of Ullman’s decades-long career.

The program announcements continue for this year’s Berlin International Film Festival, with the Series and Generation strands both unveiling today, as well as the line-up for the Co-Production Market. Scroll down for the lists of titles.

The Berlinale Series selection, which is increasingly becoming a more high-profile part of the festival, again boasts several buzzy titles.

Premiering in Berlin will be Amazon Prime Video’s Argentinian series Yosi, The Regretful Spy, the Swedish show Lust from HBO Max, Sky’s UK series The Rising, and Lone Scherfig Danish show The Shift, which comes from local broadcaster TV2.

The Generation strand, which features youth-focused cinema, includes 14 features this year. The selection marks the last of long-time Generation head Maryanne Redpath.

Elsewhere, the European Film Market has confirmed titles for its Co-Production Market, which like the rest of the industry activity will take place virtually this year.
