“It’s the holy grail,” Nico Vincent, the sub-sea manager on the expedition, tells Variety. “It’s the most complicated one. Just being able to reach the field and dive three kilometers beneath the ice, it’s the level of complexity of walking on the moon.”

Ridley Scott is shrugging off the negative reviews coming out of France for his new historical epic “Napoleon,” which stars Joaquin Phoenix as the infamous French emperor and Vanessa Kirby as his wife, Joséphine de Beauharnais. Reviews are all over the place for the biographical drama. The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw gave it five stars, for instance, while French GQ wrote it is “deeply clumsy, unnatural and unintentionally funny” to have French characters speaking in American accents.

As recapped by the BBC, other French publications also targeted Scott’s latest. The daily newspaper Le Figaro said the film could be renamed “Barbie and Ken Under the Empire,” while Napoleon biographer Patrice Gueniffey told Le Point magazine that Scott made a “very anti-French and very pro-British” rewrite of history.

Famed director Ridley Scott recently hit back at critics who picked apart historical inaccuracies in film.

Speaking with The New Yorker, Alien director Ridley Scott brushed off comments calling out inaccuracies in the Napoleon trailer. In a TikTok video posted by TV historian Dan Snow, Snow points out that Marie-Antoinette “famously had very cropped hair for the execution, and, hey, Napoleon wasn’t there,” as well as the fact that “Napoleon didn’t shoot at the pyramids” during the Battle of the Pyramids. Scott tersely responded, "Get a life."

As with any historical film based on a prominent figure or event, Ridley Scott’s Napoleon has faced some criticism for its historical inaccuracies – and the movie hasn’t even come out yet! Upon the arrival of the trailer, Dan Snow – a historian and television personality – took to TikTok to point out the errors, much to the dismay of its director.

After learning of the breakdown and just what Snow zeroes in on, Ridley Scott told The New Yorker that he – and those constantly questioning inaccuracies in such pictures – need to “get a life.” What makes anybody think Ridley Scott wants to hear your gripes?

The nearly three-hour movie is the 28th feature for the director, who turns 86 on Nov. 30. And he clearly doesn’t have time for nitpicks from TV historian Dan Snow, who pointed out inaccuracies such as “Napoleon didn’t shoot at the pyramids.” Snow even dinged the movie’s tagline, “He came from nothing, he conquered everything,” since the French monarch did not conquer Britain.

“Get a life,” Scott told Snow of his critiques in a New Yorker interview published Monday, echoing William Shatner’s long-ago message to diehard “Star Trek” fans.

Snow begins his video, which was posted in reaction to the trailer, by saying, “I love historical epics.

Ridley Scott is returning to theaters this month with the release of the historical drama “Napoleon,” starring Joaquin Phoenix as the infamous French emperor and Vanessa Kirby as his wife, Joséphine de Beauharnais. The film promises to bring numerous historical events to the big screen, from the beheading of Marie Antoinette to the Battle of Waterloo, but not all of them might be fully accurate.

As observed in Scott’s new interview with The New Yorker, the official “Napoleon” trailer was met with criticism by TV historian Dan Snow, who called out some of the inaccuracies in a viral TikTok post. The director shrugged off criticisms over historical inaccuracies of the upcoming period piece starring Joaquin Phoenix as the French ruler during an interview with The New Yorker. The article cited TV historian Dan Snow’s viral TikTok that called out the locations and stylings shown in the film’s trailer, including having Napoleon Bonaparte show up in places he did not travel to in real life.

“Get a life,” Scott replied.

“Napoleon” looks at Napoleon’s origins and climb to power through the lens of his relationship with his wife, Josephine (Vanessa Kirby). The Apple epic aims to capture Napoleon’s famous battles, ambition, and strategy as a military leader and war visionary. The distributor doesn’t appear to be touting its historical accuracies.

The feature is set to have a four-and-a-half-hour director’s cut streaming on Apple TV+ in 2024.

The announcement comes almost exactly a year after Shackelton’s ship Endurance was discovered eerily intact on the Weddell Sea floor near the northernmost part of the Antarctic, more than a hundred years after the vessel sank. The Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust organized and funded the mission to find the historic wreck.

Dog tags belonging to two members of the Band of Brothers, made famous by Stephen E. Ambrose’s book and the 2001 Steven Spielberg-Tom Hanks HBO miniseries, have been discovered in the UK 78 years after D-Day and are being spotlighted for a documentary for Dan Snow’s History Hit streamer.

Snow’s team discovered the tags belonging to Richard A. Blake and Carl Fenstermaker after digging at Aldbourne, Wiltshire, where the 101st Airborne Division, otherwise known as Dick Winters Easy Company, were stationed during World War II. The tags were found by archaeologist Richard Osgood and a team of veterans from Nightingale and Aldbourne Heritage Centre supported by Breaking Ground Heritage.

Members of the Easy Company were made famous by the Emmy-winning HBO series Band of Brothers from Spielberg and Hanks, which dramatized the experiences of the battalion and starred Damian Lewis as Winters and David Schwimmer as Captain Herbert Sobel.
